USSOCOM ELR-SR

Sounds like SOCOM is looking at a rifle to extend their effective range to 2500 yds. Interesting set of requirements. Makes sense why Barrett just announced the new 416 MRAD.

The ELR-SR shall be a modular, magazine-fed, multi-caliber capable system which will include barrel configurations with required bolts and barrels of each caliber, required magazines of each caliber, stock, receiver, sound suppressor, ballistic computer, operator manual, cleaning kit, tool kit, bipod, and Transportation Safety Administration (TSA) approved locking hard carrying case.

The primary caliber of the system shall be sub-sonic and supersonic capable. If the primary system caliber is not a current DOD-approved munition, system it shall be capable of transitioning to a current .300 Norma Magnum DOD-approved munition with a quick- change kit (T). The quick-change kit shall be able to switch calibers within 5 minutes.

The ELR-SR shall have an overall length of no more than 56 inches, no more than 50 inches, less suppressor and the length of pull set to 14.5 inches.

The ELR-SR shall weigh no more than 22 lbs. with barrel, empty magazine, no more than 18 lbs.

Shall have continuous timed and biased MIL-STD-1913 rails, with numbered slots, at the 12 o’clock position with a minimum length of 24 inches and a 10 (+/- 1) MIL forward-sloping cant from back to front.

Shall provide M-LOK® attachment points at the 3, 6 and 9 o’clock positions with ARCA lock rail with attachment at the 6 o’clock position.

The ELR-SR shall be manual (bolt action gun) in operation.

The ELR-SR, with muzzle device attached, will have a peak free recoil impulse of no more than 25 ft-lbs. The objective is to minimize the effects of recoil on a shooter as much as possible.

The ELR-SR barrel shall be capable of removal and replacement at the operator level Modular changes, including barrel changes, shall be accomplished within 5 minutes and with common tools, in such a way as to meet headspace requirements for each caliber.

The ELR-SR system shall have a single, precision fire, high decibel reduction sound suppressor that will reduce audible signatures for all calibers to no more than 140dB. The sound suppressor should add no more than 8.5 inches in length to the system and should have recoil reducing capabilities. Sound suppressor shall be removable without specialty tools.

I smell a suit a comin, comin down the track

I want to get paid, just because I'm black. (To the tune of Johnny Cash's Folsom Prison Blues). I'd guess at least 100 million for a starting point, Harvard's pockets are DEEP.

Maggie’s The "Youtube" Guide to AI Ladies!

I came upon this Youtube video, recently. It shows an AI image for a young female in every country (usually in local/cultural dress).

If you ever questioned what images are "AI" vs "real," this will help you. Study it. And, even if you already know that, the women are nice to look at, anyway! :ROFLMAO:

And, for those who would prefer "wholesome" images of "family life" and familes, there is this video:

This one does each country on a "Continent by Continent" basis, and the 1st Continent is Africa, so you'll see a lot of African Families first.

Do you use expanding mandrels after a full-length bushing die for neck sizing?

I have a question for those who use the expanding mandrels from Wilson, Sinclair, K&M and 21st Century.
It looks like the standard size mandrels are 1 thou or 0.0008 +/- 0.0002" under bullet diameter.
Are those the mandrels you are using before seating bullets?
If so, are you getting 1 thou difference before and after seating? Some people call this "neck tension" or "bullet hold." Is 1 thou enough?

Sinclair describes the purpose of these mandrels as being for the purpose of opening the necks so they can be placed over a neck-turning mandrel.
LE Wilson describes these mandrels as being for the purpose of opening up new brass that is either under-sized or possibly damaged in packing or shipping to "slightly less" than bullet diameter.
Some authors of articles in the Accurate Shooting bulletin have described using the mandrels and experiencing spring-back to 2-thou under with Lapua brass, but not necessarily any or all brass.

I've received the impression that it has become popular to size necks with these mandrels in lieu of the carbide expander balls in full-length bushing dies (Redding Type-S, Wilson, Whidden, etc.) The practice is to push the cartridge into the die to bump the shoulder and squeeze the neck down to a bushing size just below what the expanding mandrel will open. Then the case is pushed into mandrel die where the mandrel opens the neck, sizing the ID vs. the bushing that sized the OD.

I've read descriptions of why the pushed mandrels are supposed to be better than the pulled balls/buttons.

What I want to know from the people who use these mandels for the purpose I just described, is: Are you using the standard size mandrels sized 1 under bullet diameter? Or are you using a smaller mandrel like the ones from 21st Century that are in half-thou increments? If you're sizing 1 thou under bullet diameter, does your brass spring back to 2-thou under? Are your bullets secure?

Accessories AREA 419 / Orange Vise & Maintenance Bundle - Nashville Only

This is still in its factory box (unopened, even). Because of weight, must meet me in Nashville (no shipping). $1575 - which may not seem like much of a discount, but with sales tax and shipping, it's at least $175 off. This price is firm, because I don't really want to get rid of it as much as I want the space the box is taking up. No trades.

Will obviously shoot photos of said shipping box/chat/FaceTime or whatever with whomever might be interested.

Decided to keep it.

Both of these barrels shoot fantastic. The 6.5prc especially. Very consistent .3moa barrel with my load.

Zero press versus Redding T-7 turret.

Was looking at upgrading from my 1980s rock chuck. The question I have is: Can the Redding T-7, with the Creedmoore upgrade, build bullets as well as the Zero press?

Don't care about faster than the Zero but how does the Redding T-7 compare for repeatability and head spacing and runout and all that?

I'm sure I'll still prime and throw powder by hand.

9mm Luger - Windage Drift at 100 yd questions?

I know it is silly to ask about spin/windage drift on a pistol cartridge like 9mm, but I have a Vector SBR that has a 6.5" barrel and 1/10 twist. Basically its an overglorified Glock 17L with a threaded barrel. When I zero it at 100 yd and check the laser bore sight afterwards, the laser is way high and to the left of my POA. I'd say about 3"-4" to the left and 6" or more high at 18 yd with the laser bore sight.

Worse, at the 100 yd line I can print a 2.5" 5-shot group but then sometimes none of my shots are on paper. I've tried different optics to no avail. I figure since the barrel is part of the lower receiver, and the optic is attached to the upper receiver that it may have some impact on this. I did notice that after a few shots or a mag is when the shots no longer hit paper at 100 yd. Once it is all cooled down, it seems to shoot normally for a bit.

Strelok does predict windage drift out to 100 yd (without any wind) but its showing a max of about 0.5 inches. Normal rifle cartridges don't show much in the same app.

I can understand the elevation drop because 9mm is a slower heavy bullet (115 gr at under 1200 fps or 124/147 at even slower velocities). But that much windage shift is odd.

I thought my barrel might be bent, so I re-adjusted and zeroed the windage at 7 yd, 18yd, and then checked it with the SL-150 laser boresight at 45-90 yd. It was dead-center at all of these distances. So the barrel is presumably "pointing straight".

Sierra shows 115gr JHP to have 1.15" windage drift at 50 yd. So it could be something like 2" at 100 yd? And given a 2"-3" grouping precision at 100 yd, could that explain something like a 4"-6" drift?

Is it just the nature of 9mm fired out of a short barrel at this distance?
