Recommended .308s

Hey guys,
I’m newer to long range shooting (spent 6 years USMC infantry but never did precision fires) Like all of you beautiful people I’ve caught the itch and want to shoot more. Currently I have a Bergara HMR in .300 WM and I love shooting it. (Though my shoulder would argue against that) The issue I’m having is that I don’t want to burn through my barrel for target shooting in the shorter ranges. It feels like a waste of money and the barrels life firing the .300 at shorter targets. I’d like to get a .308 to do most of my 800 and in training and maybe challenge myself out to 1000 with it eventually, but don’t know what’s good to get for the price. Hoping to keep the budget below $1000 to start and build it from there. Looking for all of your opinions to confuse me more in glorious fashion!

If you have pictures of your builds/recommendations I’d love to see them.

Zero stop a quick change barrel

I am trying to figure out the best way to do this, but I think I am over thinking it. I want to set my zero stop on my Gen 2 razor 4.5 x 27 sitting on my desert tech SRS A1 chassis. I have two barrels, a 308 18’ with a 1:11 twist, and 6.5 creedmore 26” 1:8 twist. My question would be which would be the best one to zero and set the zero stop to? Due to the nature of the rifle I want to just set it figure out the elevation for the other caliber and run it from there with my dope chart once I figure that portion out.

ZCO Reticle Help for the FNG

After much contemplation into getting into this spectrum of our sport. As a civilian, I am at a bit of a loss when it reticles as I am at that new guy stage.
I've only have had experience in my EBR-9 MOA reticles for 3gun. I do not know how to read MILS yet. I am in the process of finding enrollment with an instructor.

I know reticles are a bit of personal preference. I am currently looking at the ZCO 527 with the IMPCT3X reticle. Not knowing what I'm looking for yet what are the main differences between the IMPCT3x vs the Tremor3&5 reticles?

This is going on top of a AXSR 338Lap/6.5C setup. Later on will eventually build my 7mm-.30cal mid-weight hunting rifle, hopefully the optic will complement in power/reticle choice.

Humbly appreciate all feedback.

Idiots Among Us And The Animals They Adopt

It's incredible how many idiots live among us. Even worse is the danger that they pose. One of my peeves is people that cannot train or control their dogs.

It's a damn dog and only understands simple commands. One does not give a dog time out for pooping on the floor. It's more of the owner's fault than the dog's. It becomes deadly when the idiots cannot control or train a dangerous breed.

With that said, here's a video about a couple of idiots with more money than brains that adopted a chimpanzee. Later in its life the owner/adoptive mother give the chimp Xanax to calm it down.

You read that correctly. She gave the chimp a happy pill to calm it down. And why not? It drank wine during family dinner. The chimp, after all, was a responsible drinker.

This is a long video. The narration is slow but some of you might want to forward to friends thinking of making a wild animal a family member. That may prove fruitless as one usually cannot reason with an idiot.

What's sad is that there are people that feel more sorrow for the dead chimp than the woman he tried to eat.

Then there was also a failure of the government geniuses who could have prevented this tragedy. Oh but silly me, I guess that's out of the realm of Children's Protective Services. A 168 grain SMK to the head when it got out of control the first time would have solved the problem. I make no apologies to the Harambe mourners.

Like I said, it's a long video with slow narration. If you don't have much time, you can go to the settings icon and speed it up and still listen with clarity.

The Clone Wars... XM3 EFR Mount stuff

I was approached about this XM3 stuff by an old friend who used to manage the Remington Custom Shop down the street from us. He brought me one of his personal EFR mounts to look at and possibly reproduce. If I understood him correctly, the story goes that Iron Brigade was originally tasked with much of this stuff. They subcontracted to a shop called Colorado Micro Precision to make the mounts. That business is no longer around, and the part basically died there. I've been told somewhere around 50-55 of these things were made so it's a pretty rare part.

Until now.

The photos show the artifact piece and my SW assembly model. My understanding is there are two versions of this mount. The difference is how the lugs were spaced on the STENAG rail. The one I have modeled is the "original" design. The original looks to be finished by AO (aluminum Oxide) blast finishing followed by Type III black ano. That is no problem for us.

If folks are interested, we'll do a run of these things. I've seen Gunbroker auctions where this part and a scope rail have sold for as much as $750.00. (shown here: https://www.gunbroker.com/item/978812555)

$350.00 is where we'll start. If we get a pile of folks on board, I'll review this, and mold this into something like a group buy. If it goes that far, I'll move the offer to the GB section.

Well, we adopted

Our new German Shepherd.

The original owners moved to another state and they did not take him but gave him to a rescue. The rescue kept for a couple days, he ended up adopted by an elderly woman who decided he was too big and sent him back to the rescue and then they sent him to a foster home for 2 days which is where we got him. Poor guy doesnt know what the hell is going on with his life. He is 10 months and almost 75#

He was so neglected by the owners he did not even know his name. He has absolutely no training and is still trying to puppy bite. Ive got him doing sit, stay, laydown and release in 48 hours.

3 digit Remington 40x

Hello all, hoping to gather some info on an old relic of mine, it’s a 1954 40x with a serial number in the mid 100s. Obviously one of the first made. It’s not a CMP or USMC. I found minimal info on the four digits in general, but not a lot. Is there a resource out there that I can use to find anything out that I can? I’ve heard the early one are on a 722 action, not 700. It’s a blued barrel and action, not stainless. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Cartridge length question

Hey all, I have what is, I’m sure, a really dumb beginner question. I’ve just started reloading, am reading and watching all that I can, but am otherwise on my own. No father to look at me when I ask this question and say, “are you fuckin’ kidding me?”

When measuring cartridge length, how accurate should you be? The manual I’m reading now (Speer Reloading Manual 12), it lists the cartridge length for 308 as 2.0150”. The first 5 I measured are 2.0195”, 2.0240”, 2.0140”, 2.0175”, and 2.0195”. Is this an acceptable variation, or do I need to try to size them all on the button?

Thanks in advance, and feel free to make fun of the dumb new guy!

SOLD Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x32 Mil/Mil-dot, zerostop,

This is pretty much a catch and release for me. Shortly after buying this scope someone local to me offered to sell me one in moa so I'm going to go that route instead. I did shoot with this scope out to 550y and it worked great. It's in very good condition, the only mark being a faint scope ring mark on the top of the tube.

$1250 shipped and insured. Price firm.

I have feedback on a Rokslide account with the same username.

Thanks for looking,
Dale
