$3900 This is a custom, one of a kind ,type copy of a German MP44, officially designated the STG 44 upon acceptance. This custom gun is in 5.56 and uses a CAI C93/HK93 operating system. The barrel, receiver group and fire control group are CAI C93 and HK 93 parts. The gun has been completely stripped and rebuilt to guarantee reliable performance and accuracy. You can see a video of the function and accuracy test of this gun below. The gun uses modified HK93 magazines and comes with one mag. Instructions of how to modify HK93 mags are included (it's simply a couple of file strokes to the rear of the magazine). The gun comes complete with two optics. Both were used during the development of the MP44 but ultimately were not issued with the weapon. A replica ZF4 and ZF41 are included. Both scopes have been sighted in for this rifle. Instructions are included on how to adjust these scopes. Copies of the pocket soldiers guide to the STG 44 and the ZF-41 are included. An original STG 44 sling as used by the post war East German Volks Armee is included. Did some searching and found some decent info, but wanted to see if opinions may have changed since the XTR Pro has been out longer now.

I have a Cronus BTR 4.5-29 on one of my impact M3 PCP air rifles. It’s been on a few air rifles over several years now and hasn’t let me down. Glass is good, reticle is good, turrets track perfect athough they aren’t super “clicky” as mine is a Gen 1 BTR and not the Gen 2 BTR with the newest stainless turret detents.

I use this thing for occasional target practice in the backyard but mostly for taking out ground squirrels up to about 150Y. The 29x mag is very nice to be able to tell if that’s a dirt clod or a squirrel just starting to poke his eyes and ears up above the mound at 120Y+, and the glass in the Cronus is good enough to easily discern the eyes and ears from the dirt.

I recently picked up an XTR3i 3.3-18 for one of my 10/22s and really, really like it. I like the reticle, turrets are good feeling and track well, and glass is good, up there with the Cronus as far as I can tell, far better than I expected given my previous very poor experience with a pair of Steiner 3-15 T5XI’s. Using the XTR3i got me to thinking about maybe trying an XTR Pro 5.5-30 to replace the Cronus, even though I really don’t have any complaints about the Cronus other than the turrets could be a little more tactile.

How does the XTR Pro glass stack up against the Cronus BTR? Also, how’s the depth of field on the XTR Pro at 30x? One thing I like about the Cronus is on 29X I can use the parallax knob as a fairly accurate rangefinder at 150Y and in, which is very important on the air rifle given the trajectory of a pellet or slug. Sometimes in a very flat field I can’t get a good range with a laser rangefinder and instead use the parallax knob at 29x mag to range the squirrels, and the Cronus does pretty well in this regard and usually rewards me with first round hits. I know most people here are looking for just the opposite, a more forgiving depth of field so you don’t have to mess with the parallax as much when engaging targets at different ranges-- but I’m hoping at 30x at 150Y and in the depth of field is tight enough that the XTR Pro will let me get a good approximate range with the parallax knob.

Also, does the XTR Pro exhibit any noticeable image degradation when dialed near elevation extremes? I have a decent amount of cant in the mount for taking long shots, but since the Cronus does start to lose some image resolution when dialed within about 7 mils of the upper or lower elevation extremes I chose a mount to keep the Cronus above that area of degraded image resolution at my zero distance. However, since the XTR Pro has less elevation travel than the Cronus (26 mil vs 32 mil) with the current mount the XTR Pro is going to be dialed down to about 4 mils up from the very bottom of its elevation travel at my zero distance. Any issues with degraded image quality of the XTR Pro when the elevation turret is cranked down that low?

The other was removed from a GA BCG and is marked MP. It is brand new and was never used. 9310 Bolt MP inspected, High Pressure Tested Bolt properly heat treated, shot peened, and post heat treat ground with headspace held to half the blueprint specification. $40

Both are 223 face.

A, B, and C are 1 ½ inch targets for OCW shot at 100 yards seated 0.020 off the LANS.
From what I see the OCW is between B and C so I went with 43.3 gr Varget.

Next the seating test. Dots are 1 inch. 5 depths: -0.020, -0.030, -0.040, -0.050, -0.060. 43.3 gr Varget. On target 1 the second round went 2703. I attribute this to my loading. There was a problem in the amount thrown. Mag length limit me to no longer than -0.020 off.

My take.
Good correlation for ES and velocity for all 5. Numbers for the OCW are not far off either. The differences are in the grouping and the SD.
Targets 3 and 4 indicate to me that a seating depth of -0.045 may be the answer. However, target 5 POA and POI are good and the SD says -0.060

Your comments would be appreciated. The end state for this rifle is PRS.

I am very much a beginner, and want to learn well. In moving from the flat range and preparing for a long range field course event, what should go in my shooting bag? What should *not* go in? The baseline is "walk in, shoot with what you carry, walk back out."

My mother-in-law is staying at my place for a couple of weeks. Once in a while she will comment: "Isn't it dangerous having loaded guns in the house? You have so many guns, isn't it dangerous having them around your son?". I just ignore these comments. My son knows more about gun safety than most.

What triggered me? She proceeds to leave her stuff on and around the staircase, like her handbag, photos, etc... basically setting up a staircase "slip trap" to break a leg or neck.

I will bet more people get hurt, maimed or die slipping/falling off staircases due to being lazy and leaving shit on staircases than having loaded guns in the house.

The stupidity.... know more of these mundane things that folks do that are just plain dumb and dangerous in the house, then proceed to call having a loaded gun in the house dangerous?

I have been looking for a new chassis and came across somthing i definitely do not agree with at brownells

The state of il now has an "assault weapons" ban that also includes parts of awb or parts that can be readily converted, now in this law bolt action rifles are excluded from this

Went to order an mpr chassis (yeah i know christensen rifles have a bad wrap) and it shows its a regulated item and they will not ship to il now to me this doesnt make any sense as its for a bolt action rifle but it seems their legal team is going overboard

But it gets better and this was just an example i found
