SOLD Schmidt and Bender 5-25x56 Sold

Schmidt & Bender 5-25x56 PM II LP P4 fine reticle Mil CW DT/ST

I used this routinely when I was shooting PRS matches. Getting old now and into F class only. This has wear marks on the turrets but functions perfectly. It's been a safe queen for the last few years. Took it out and noticed a focus problem. Sent it in for repair and it had a new objective assembly put in. All checked out by S&B service center.

Includes Seekins low rings.

Optics Bushnell XRS3 & Match Pro ED

I have a LNIB Bushnell XRS3 with G4P reticle. I bought it new from another member here. I mounted it but never took it out. Glass is good and has no issues. Asking $1100 shipped.

I also have a Bushnell Match Pro ED. This one was going to be used with a CZ 457 for production class but decided to go straight to open class so I don't need to stay under a certain budget for the scope. I purchased it this month when they were back in stock briefly. I figured someone might want it before I try to return it to Bushnell. It was never mounted and only taken out of the box to inspect it. SOLD

Who Made This Barrel?

I have a .30 cal barrel that I bought about 10 years ago off another shooting website . I was told it's a Krieger barrel but there's no Krieger stamp on it.
One friend said it might be before they started putting their name on it.
Do you guys have any thoughts on who made the barrel? Any info would be appreciated.

Air Force Major Brian Shul, Ret. will not be down for breakfast

Air Force Major Brian Shul, Ret. died suddenly last night of a heart attack in Reno, Nevada he was 75. In 1973 toward the end of the Vietnam War, he was in a near-tragic plane crash that burnt most of his body. He courageously fought back and was able to fly the SR 71. He is well known for his story “speed check” prayers to his family. and to his many friends.

God speed.

I need help. New 223 barrel

So I have over 400 rounds on this barrel and I cannot find a load for it. Gave up on the 75 ELD and still not having any luck with Berger 85.5. I’ve found my velocity node and carefully weighed each load of varget to the kernel. I tested a bunch with the base of the bearing surface at the neck shoulder junction and had no luck. So today I tried Berger’s suggestion intervals and groups still look like shit. Pics below of .020, .030, .045, and .060 off the lands.

This barrel has a .100 freebore and at .020 off the bullet is barely in the case. Never had much trouble before finding a load but this thing is really frustrating me. I don’t know where to go next.

Random Double Tap on AR10 with Suppressor

I am running the following:
  • Aero Precision Upper/Lower
  • Geisselle two stage trigger
  • Omega Suppressor
  • Hand loads 168gr Nosler Ballistic Tip
  • 18" Proof Research CF Barrel
  • JP Enterprise Silent Capture H2 for AR10
  • Just installed an Superlative adjustable Gas Block that allows for gas bleed off
I was getting double taps often and double feed issues, changed out to a adjustable gas block, those are gone but still get random double taps.

Do I keep going on the bleed off clicks and hope it cures the double tap? Or, am I chasing a ghost??? Any thoughts???

Thanks much!

Just Scored an Accuracy International AE MK III for $4500 - Need Suggestions for Next Steps

Long time lurker, first time poster here. I'm absolutely stoked to share with you all that I've just managed to pick up an Accuracy International AE MK III (pristine condition, basically new), chambered in 260 Remington, all for a cool $4500. This is my first venture into the world of long range bolt action shooting, although I do have a CZ457 that's also en route to me (I guess it's just my lucky season!)

I'm quite familiar with short to medium range shooting, but I'm still getting my feet wet with long range precision. Therefore, I am humbly reaching out to this amazing community for advice. I have to admit, having such a sophisticated tool in my hands is a bit daunting, but also extremely exciting.

  1. Preparation: What should be my first steps in terms of preparing the rifle for use? Any specific break-in process I should follow, or other maintenance/care tips specific to this model?
  2. Optics: I haven't decided on optics yet, and could really use your input here. I'm aware it's a highly personal choice and often comes down to budget, but I'd appreciate any recommendations you might have. My budget is reasonably flexible, and I want something that will do justice to the capabilities of this rifle. I'd love to hear both your high-end and budget-friendly options.
  3. Ammunition: I know that 260 Remington has a good reputation for long-range accuracy, but any particular brands, grain weight, or bullet type you prefer?
  4. Accessories: Are there any essential accessories I should consider? Bipods, muzzle brakes, anything else?
  5. Training/Practice: Any drills, training routines, or resources you'd recommend for a newcomer to long range shooting? I want to make sure I'm honing my skills in the right way.
I'm excited to embark on this journey with such a renowned piece of kit, and I'm eager to learn from all of you. Thanks in advance for your time and suggestions!

Cleaned my lenses, now I think they’re ruined?

Yesterday I shot a match in the rain. It was a wet and muddy soupy mess. When I stripped the gun afterwards I went to clean my lenses which were also a mess. The ocular lens came out fine, but my objective lens is ruined I think? It looks like I wore off some of the coating on the lens.

The scope is a Bushnell XRS3. I used the same SOP I use to clean all my optics: A lens bulb blower, a lens brush, and followed it with a spray solution from Vortex with a microfiber rag also made by Vortex.

Picture below shows what I’m left with now. I don’t want to play with it anymore and plan to call Bushnell tomorrow and see what they say.

My Reloading Steps from Start to Finish. Anything Missing?

This is a list of steps in order I perform when reloading my 6.5CM for long range. I think I have it all down, but curious if anything is missing. Took a while to get all this in play as I kept thinking I had it all down. Always found I was missing something. LOL!

Anneal
Tumble
Lube Brass for Sizing
Size/deprime Brass with Measuring Should Bump
Headspace Check and Cut if Needed
Chamfer and Deburr
Clean Primer Pockets (once every 3 reloads)
Tumble
Seat Primers
Powder Charge
Bullet Seating
Final inspect with COAL Measurement

BTW, my friends see all this and just can't fathom doing all these steps just to go shoot. They say I'm crazy. LOL! ME: No, no, you just would never understand. HAHA!

Nightforce, Razor, others

I've been out of the game for a couple of years, but looking to get back in. My current rig is a Tikka TAC-A1 in 6.5 Creedmoor, with a Vortex Viper PST 4x16 (Gen I). I was able to engage out to +/-1400 yds with that, but I felt that I was reaching the limits of that scope in terms of both magnification and clarity. Also, the Viper does not have a Christmas tree, just the vertical/horizontal center lines, so it's not the easiest to do wind offsets with any holdover. So I'm looking for options.

I'm not looking to get into serious PRS matches or anything. I'd just like to be able to stretch the Tikka out a bit further, hopefully to a mile, maybe a bit more. I've got a 1000 yd range an hour away and another about five hours away that goes to 1 mile.

I know Nightforce is the top dog, but an ATACR is a bit pricey. I was looking at the Razor Gen II around the time that I had to take a break, and I see that they've got the Gen III now. The price difference b/t 4.5x27 Gen II and 6x36 Gen III is minimal, and I like the 36 MRAD of elevation. Also, I've been seeing some discount coupons in the Buy/Sell/Trade forum, which bring it down to a reasonable price ($2200)

I also saw a vendor on the B/S/T forum with a sale on the Nightforce NX8 4x32, which gets close to the price of the Razor Gen III with the coupon. There's even an individual listing one on B/S/T for under $2k. How does the NX8 compare to the ATACR and Razor Gen III?

Burris has their XTR III and XTR Pro scopes, also in the $2000 - $2500 range for a 5.5x30. I don't know anyone who has tried either of those, so if anyone here has any insights, I'd love to hear it.

And then there's the Leupold Mark 5HD. I'm not as big a fan of that one, as it does not have an illuminated reticle.

Features I'd like to have (and most of the scopes mentioned above have) are:
  • clear optics
  • illuminated reticle (for shooting near dusk)
  • lots of elevation
  • Christmas tree (maybe HORUS, maybe not)
  • great warranty that I'll never need to use because it's built to not break in the first place

I'm not sure whether I'd get a lot out of the TREMOR3 or TREMOR5 reticle vs just a standard MIL-based Christmas tree. Any words of wisdom on that topic also would be appreciated. One thing I did notice about the TREMOR reticles is that the illuminated versions only have a handful of specific dots lighted on the vertical centerline, where most MIL trees have anywhere from 2 - 4 MILs of the main crosshairs illuminated for both windage and elevation. It seems like the additional lighting, especially on the windage, would be useful, but feel free to tell me if I'm wrong.

Thanks in advance.
