Pacific Tool & Guide...The love keeps coming

Remington 700 bolt handle falls off today

So there I was today, Quantico Range 4, on 1000 yd line, shooting my 700 Remington 3006 precision rifle encased in an Accuracy International chassis , flicking bolt open with two fingers, to extract fired case and bolt handle falls off bolt body. Seems barely a weld done to attach handle to bolt.

At first, I was thinking No More Wheaties for breakfast but I'm going to stop opening bolt after firing with 2 fingers, better do it with one, after all, new bolts ain't cheap. LOL.

This was a pain in the neck moment, looking up and bolt handle between my two fingers. Made in USA or did Remington "out source" that bolt? Will have handle re welded back on, not even going to ask about warranty with Remington, if sent to them, the bolt would be gone six months and I'd lose all this summer and fall shooting.

In this instance time not money is driving factor. Heck with warranty and Remington fix it at their cost, I want to shoot right now so the bucks to fix bolt handle is money well spent.

Get it fixed....use one finger from now on LOL. LOL LOL.

Such a sad note the desperate times and condition of Remington, once a magnificent firearms company.

But wait....late breaking news: this bolt per an expert out of Quantico Shooting Club states is a Pacific Tool & Guide bolt sold to me with a Rem 700 barreled action. Reaching back , I remember, this i s a barreled action PTG bought off the factory floor of Remington when they went bank rupt, then advertised & sold to be as a complete barreled action . But what arrived was a naked bare bolt body and the barreled action. PTG response was unresponsive so with friends help, bolt parts sourced and rifle made operational. I had long put the PTG switcheroo and missing parts in rear view mirror.

Now the wisdom of dealing with PTG is back once again, their bolt fell apart today.

Resolved to weld handle on and turn the page. PTG is what they are, I learned a hard lesson. I got PTG'd......over and over again.

Is there a long term lesson learned here...yes : use one finger when operating a PTG bolt.

Law Firm Clarifies Ketanji Brown Jackson’s Controversial Claim on Black Doctors, Infant Survival.

A law firm that submitted an amicus curiae (“friend of the court”) brief cited by Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson in her dissent in the affirmative action case filed a clarification with the Court on Friday.
As Fox News noted, the Norton Rose Fullbright firm filed a letter on Friday with the Supreme Court to clarify a study that Justice Jackson cited to claim that black babies born to black doctors have a higher survival rate.
In her dissent to the 6-3 decision in Students for Fair Admissions v. President and Fellows of Harvard College, which struck down affirmative action in college admissions: Justice Jackson made the following notable claim: “For high-risk Black newborns, having a Black physician more than doubles the likelihood that the baby will live, and not die.”
In a response in the Wall Street Journal, plaintiffs’ litigator Ted Frank weighed in:
A moment’s thought should be enough to realize that this claim is wildly implausible. Imagine if 40% of black newborns died—thousands of dead infants every week. But even so, that’s a 60% survival rate, which is mathematically impossible to double. And the actual survival rate is over 99%.
How could Justice Jackson make such an innumerate mistake? A footnote cites a friend-of-the-court brief by the Association of American Medical Colleges, which makes the same claim in almost identical language. It, in turn, refers to a 2020 study whose lead author is Brad Greenwood, a professor at the George Mason University School of Business.

The AAMC brief either misunderstood the paper or invented the statistic. (It isn’t saved by the adjective “high-risk,” which doesn’t appear and isn’t measured in Greenwood’s paper.)
George Washington University Law School scholar Jonathan Turley also took on Justice Jackson’s claim, noting that the brief she cited inis the latest example of litigants “dump[ing] statistics and studies into the record” that the Court is unable to check. “The result is that major decisions or dissents can be built on highly contested factual assertions. In this case, critics believe that the Jackson argument literally does not add up,” he said”.
In its clarifying letter, Norton Rose Fullbright said that “mortality” had been confused with survival rates:
[W]hile survival is the obverse of mortality and in general terms decreased mortality indicates increased survival, statistically they are not interchangeable. … A more precise summary of the study’s finding would have been to state that having a Black physician reduces by more than half the likelihood of death for Black newborns as compared to White newborns.
The firm claimed that the study still supported Justice Jackson’s dissent, but it did not explain why she referred to black newborns as “high-risk” when that term did not appear in the study.
During her 2022 confirmation hearing, Justice Jackson would not define what the term “woman” meant, saying: “I’m not a biologist.”

Never mind it was just a sleeping guy not named on the warrant. Shot in his bed .
Love the part that the state and local police sent officers that were NOT on scene to testify against the victim. That’s a bold strategy and it didn’t pay off all charges dropped.

Perjury on top of attempted murder to avoid civil lawsuit. Sterling character!
This is the WV state police that is under 5 different federal investigations- including murder and drug trafficking.

One rifle for hunting and target shooting

Hey all. So I have a 1985 Rem 700 .243 with a Timney and a Mossberg Precision MVP 6.5 and they are both tack drivers. The glass on the Rem isn't great for target shooting (it's as old as the gun) and the MVP is too heavy to be a field rifle. I am been thinking of upgrading the Rem glass, but then thought maybe I should just sell them both and get one rifle that is light enough to be a field gun, but accurate enough for some target shooting.

Any suggestions? I am thinking of the Browning X-bolt hunter 6.5 (I am partial to wood stocks), the Springfield Waypoint 2020 6.5, Sako 20 or Christiansen.

Thanks

Movie Theater Netflix "65" The average IQ in the future/past

In the distant past the universe was populated with the dumbest motherfuckers to have ever lived. They managed to invent long distance space travel with no radar or method of collision avoidance. Sadly, for all their technology these stupid bastards had never heard of the dangers of hitting other objects in space. Even if the missed meteors and random other chunks of shit, they would hit planets and stars they were so fucking stupid.

So, they hire a one-man crew to haul a ship full of idiots right past earth the day before the biggest asteroid strike in the planet's history. Since he is flying world's worst spaceship it hits the asteroid then the planet. No biggie, he has a button to push for help. They gave him a bottle of water and a small caliber rifle to live on if shit went south. While it might seem this crap script was written by a 7yo with brain damage, trust me it was written by someone dumber than a 7yo kid. To hide the shitty CGI and dismal special effects it was shot entirely at night. Sadly, 65 million years ago, the sun only came up for about three hours a week. This allowed all the plants to grow out of control and feed the endless six dinosaurs who lived on earth along with 5 bugs and a weird tree that only grows red THC gummies so shit can get Hiiiiiggggghhhhhhh like a mother fucker. Good luck walking 15 clicks ya lazy fuckers, why not climb into a fucking cave? The cave is probably a short cut, right?

How does this bucket of swill end? Well, in a nutshell Darth Vader's shitty replacement is screwed because his light saber ran out of battery and the only CGI dinosaur they could rent from Industrial Light and Magic suddenly shows up to eat a spaceship. Apparently, they rented a dinosaur as stupid as the writers of this crap.

In classic Play Station fashion, upgrades and shit. The dino becomes eligible to die from Beretta Storm rounds. All this to save an ingrate kid who cannot speak English and is probably in the country illegally anyway. Will he be able to save the little mumbling illegal immigrant? HELL yeah he will.....................................he has a button to push to make the emergency ship fly away. Thankfully, there is a button for everything, just like at Office Depot.

If you had 90 minutes with no options and are stuck on the toilet with the worst shits in the world and need some other reason to die a miserable death......................................watch this movie. It is the closest thing to a second dose of the shits you can get without needing toilet paper. When you cannot find a strong empowered black woman who just happens to be a lesbian........................the next best thing is a 110 pound girl as strong as a man and five times as smart.

As long as the girl is not white, white people are bad, weak, unable to cope without the help of the beige and browns.

SOLD Black Ops Precision Recon .308 - Make an offer!

I cannot believe I am letting these go but I have decided it is time to part with my 2 Black Ops rifles. Both have been flawless over the time that I have had them and will continue to offer many more years of enjoyment.

1. Black Ops Recon .308 that was originally purchased new in Oct 2013. Current round count is 1286

-Black Ops/Badger EFR
-Timney trigger
-Atlas front rail w/ integrated QD cup
-AAC 90t brake for MK13 suppressor
-Barreled action/DBM/EFR all cerakoated in MilSpec Green

Bolt knob and action do show wear in the finish from use as well as some spots on the EFR. I have loved shooting this rifle and it constantly shoot 1/2 MOA if I can do my part. It will come with 1 AI AW mag as well as the Wiebad cheek pad shown. Bipod and optic not included. Asking $3500 NOW $3250

2. $OLD Black Ops Spectre-BABR .308. I picked this up here about 2 years ago and have put 57 rounds through it in that time. Previously it had one owner who put roughly 200 rounds through it.

Feedback Scammer Alert: RMD45

Scammer Alert: RMD45
DO NOT DO anything with him! He is a scammer. Been a SH member since 2001 and posted on 12 dif chats. Responded to my WTB add for a Spuhr 4001. Was very knowledgeable when I asked him what he replaced the mount with. Said went to a 5001 and put a Gen 1 Razor in it which is 35mm. Sent a DL photo (later ran and is fake). Sent cell number which goes to goggle answer service. I intentionally said I would pay 325, he corrected me and said I only owed 320 to his pp (pp name matched dl name). Had zero feedback, but I thought why would a scammer be a SH member for two years and contribute intelligent comments on 12 diff threads to one day scam $320. Shoulda took the time to run the DL, not on file, aka FAKE. Was busy at the time and went against my better judgement. Won’t happen again. Special place in hell for scammers. Karma will some day catch them and they will die an ugly death.

French Citizens have had Enough?

French Media Reports Vigilante Gang Zip-Tying Rioters And Handing Them to Police

Oliver JJ Lane4 Jul 2023
PARIS, FRANCE - July 2: The Forces of immediate response (F.R.I) is deployed to confront rioters in Paris, on July 2, 2023, after the death of a 17-year-old boy killed by the police in Nanterre in the suburbs of Paris on June 27, 2023. (Photo by Firas Abdullah/Anadolu Agency via …

The existence of a masked gang of young men tying up rioters in one town is discussed in French language publications, but the mayor insists no such thing exists and tells locals to call the police if they witness unrest.

Witness accounts of a so-called “brigade anticasseur” (anti-thug brigade) in the port town of Lorlent, Brittany are reported by local newspaper Le Télégramme. In addition to what is reported by members of the public to the paper, a journalist for the publication claims to have seen a group of between 20 and 30 “young, hooded men” wearing balaclavas and gloves performing unofficial arrests.

Using zip-ties to restrain alleged rioters, the men are said to have then handed their captures onto the regular police on Friday night as well as having been seen putting out fires. Described as strongly physically built, fast-moving, and proceeding in a tightly-packed group, a report in Ouest France says one member of the group told a journalist that he couldn’t reveal their identities but that “we are on the good side” and that the group was a spontaneous meeting of friends to protect the city-centre.

The paper claims to have witnessed the group arresting a rioter thought to have vandalised a local business, restraining the individual with “visibly well-honed technique”, as well as punching a rioter in the face. While police officers on the scene talking to the paper say they don’t know who the group are, they are welcoming of the help.

One officer is reported to have said to Le Télégramme: “We let it happen at the start of the evening, because it relieved us”.

Local station J’aime Radio claims to have spoken to members of the group on patrol again two nights later, interviewing them anonymously. One who spoke to the station said at first a group of friends decided they wished to stand side-by-side with police but not get involved, but eventually having seen how overwhelmed the small number of officers were becoming compared to the weight of rioters, they felt obliged to get involved.

When asked by the interviewer if the group had any “far-right” connections, a woman replied that: “no, we are just people who want to save France, because France is going to ruin”. She further added that it was their belief the killing of an Algerian-heritage teen by a police officer last week is just being used as an excuse for rioting and looting by youths.

A man added “we are patriots who love France” and that if rioters only had trouble with the police, they could understand that, but the attacks on private businesses for looting underlined the true cause of the violence. He said it was unacceptable to see a small business owner, who may have invested his whole life of savings, and all his energy, see his hard work “go up in smoke” because of looters.

Several outlets including Ouest France, Telegram and Le Figaro all point out that the town of Lorlent is home to a military base but do not go so far as to definitely assert the brigade’s members are off-duty Marines. A spokesman for the Maritime Commandos force stationed at the base is reported to have denied any knowledge of their people being involved.

Despite journalists from several newspapers reporting directly on the activities of the brigade anticasseurs, the mayor of Lorlent moved quickly to dismiss speculation, insisting the vigilantes didn’t, in fact, exist at all. Centre-right UDI party mayor Fabrice Loher said: “In response to a rumour: no, there is no “militia” working alongside the police! Our citizens are called to call… to report any public order issues.”

Generally, rioters using the death of a teenager in a Paris suburb last Tuesday as a pretext for violence and looting have been able to carry on without interruption from the rest of French society, and even the French government was relatively slow in deploying the police in force. While there were 7,000 officers on patrol the first evening of rioting, it took days to reverse the trend of soaring violence with an eventual deployment of 45,000 officers a night, which is still ongoing.

While there were more clashes, fires, and arrests on Monday night, numbers are considerably down on the peak of violence on Thursday and Friday. According to French Interior Ministry figures, there have been 5,821 car fires and well over 1,000 buildings damaged including 254 police stations and 243 schools, including 60 which took significant damage.

In the now seven nights of violence there have been 2,426 arrests. [quote/]

Where do you trust to buy ammo for a good price online?

My local shops aren't exactly cheap when it comes to ammo. I bought two boxes of 143gr Hornady ELD-X to take shooting and they were $47.99/box. I've looked online and found it as cheap as $31.99-ish a box and 200rd cases for $319.

Anywhere in particular you'd suggest? The above is a pretty significant savings and would certainly allow me to shoot more often, which I would like to do!

Finally made it to an outdoor range today

Made it out to the Laramie Rifle Range today - first time I've taken my rifle out to an outdoor range. Biggest bummer is how far - 2.5hr one way. Good news is that it's a pretty good looking drive.

Reminder of the rifle I have.

Road to infinity!

Had to be there at 10am for orientation so I could become a member. Very nice facilities!

Brought 60 rounds with me and started off at the 600yrd deck.

Got on-target at 600yds within 6 shots. After that, I was about 80% on-target at the human silhouette with misses due to wind. I was honestly surprised how easy 600yds was with this rifle.

I then backed it out to 1000yds and shot at the same silhouette. I was about 60% on-target as well, only took 3 shots to get on target (I doubled my elevation on the optic and it was darn near on, hence the three shots to get on). The Vortex Gen3 6-36 is more than enough optic for that distance. I actually backed it out a little so it was easier to see misses.

52757531827_8410afddaa_b.jpg

The brake also made a HUGE difference, like, more than I even thought possible. It's just a simple Thunder Beast brake/adapter for their suppressors (I haven't bought the suppressor yet) but the difference in recoil was substantial. The first time I shot this rifle, I put 60rds through it at an indoor 100yd range and my shoulder was SORE. This time, not a single pain.

I wish ammo wasn't so expensive - I had 20rds of Hornady 140gr Match ammo and bought 40 rds of the 143gr ELD-X hunting ammo. Both seem to shoot quite well with this rifle. Those two boxes of ELD-X were $103. Woof. Not to mention gas for a 5hr round trip! I think this might be a once-a-month kind of visit. lol

Still some snow on the mountains down by Laramie. Those buildings in the foreground are the rest of the range where they have their pistol, 100 & 200yd rifle ranges, rimfire range, bays for 3-gun practice, and... something else. The slanted roof is the clubhouse.

Rifle Scopes Maxed out windage on Razor LHT

A friend has a Daniel Defense Delta 5 chassis gun in 308. It had a Nightforce NSX 3.5-15 on it but he was having problems tracking or holding zero, I can't remember. He wanted it replaced and asked me to help put on a Vortex Razor LHT. He had never done it and didn't have the tools. It has Warne rings and so I pulled off the ring caps off, took the Nightforce off, dropped on the Razor, and had him check his eye relief and leveled the scope. I torqued down the ring caps to 18 inch-lbs. Done.

I usually pull the bolt and bore sight down the barrel. I happened to see my Leupold bore sighter and thought, I'll just slap this on the end of the barrel and bore sight it quick for him. Hoping it would get him on paper at 100yds. I had to max out the windage to get it to line up with the bore sight. Hopefully when he shoots it'll have to come back the other way a little. The Leupold bore sight tool is the one that is a periscope style and magnetically attaches to the muzzle. I'm hoping there is some error in that.

Looking at the two scopes the Nightforce has twice as much windage travel as the Razor LHT. Any other ways to correct this?

Teaching kids to shoot

Its time to teach my 6 year old to shoot (.22 and youth bow) She's left handed (like me), but I'm pretty certain she's right eye dominant ( not like me). Question to the hide, should I match her up to her dominant hand or eye? Teach her to hold rifle/ bow right handed or left? I'm thinking right handed would be easiest?

I haven't bought a bow yet, but am looking. Any suggestions? She has about an 18" draw.

How many mags per weapon...

So, while Maggot was asking about how good GunMagWarehouse is, I was excited to learn that many of you have purchased many times from this vendor within the same year and I jokingly asked how many mags you guys need. And while that was a joke it does make me wonder how many mags people typically store for each weapon. I don’t mean for a load out on your plate carrier to larp around the basement. I mean how many do you think you should have stored long term for each weapon for whatever reason? So let’s here it. How many mags for say ARs/AKs, sub guns, pistols, bolt guns and so on?
