Alec Baldwin will not be criminally charged for Halyna Hutchins's death on Rust set after all. (Photo: Invision/AP)
Criminal charges against Alec Baldwin will be dropped in the Rust case, Yahoo Entertainment has confirmed. The actor faced two counts of involuntary manslaughter for the accidental shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. As of now, the film's weapons handler, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, still has charges standing against her; however, her lawyers expect she will also be "exonerated."

"We are pleased with the decision to dismiss the case against Alec Baldwin and we encourage a proper investigation into the facts and circumstances of this tragic accident," the actor's attorneys, Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro, tell Yahoo.

The move comes one month after special prosecutor Andrea Reeb stepped down from the case. Baldwin's lawyers argued her appointment was unconstitutional due to her status as a Republican lawmaker in the New Mexico House of Representatives. Newly appointed special prosecutors Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis are expected to dismiss Baldwin's charges without prejudice. That means he could be charged in the future as they continue their investigation; however, that appears unlikely.

Gutierrez-Reed's attorneys praised the new special prosecutors.

"The new special prosecutor team has taken a very diligent and thorough approach to the entire investigation, which we welcome and have always welcomed," Jason Bowles and Todd Bullion tell Yahoo in a statement. "They are seeking the truth and we are also. The truth about what happened will come out and the questions that we have long sought answers for will be answered. We fully expect at the end of this process that Hannah will also be exonerated."

Yahoo reached out to the Santa Fe district attorney's office for comment, but did not immediately receive a response.

Earlier this year, Baldwin pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter. If found guilty, he faced up to 18 months in prison. However, the case faced issues from the beginning.

When it was first announced Baldwin would be criminally charged, he faced five years in prison if convicted on the most serious count of involuntary manslaughter. That was because prosecutors included a five-year mandatory firearm enhancement; however, the law did not exist at the time of the Rust shooting on Oct. 21, 2021. The downgraded charge was a big win for the Emmy-winning actor.

"In order to avoid further litigious distractions by Mr. Baldwin and his attorneys, the District Attorney and the special prosecutor have removed the firearm enhancement to the involuntary manslaughter charges in the death of Halyna Hutchins on the Rust film set," Heather Brewer, a spokeswoman for the New Mexico First District Attorney, told Yahoo Entertainment of that earlier decision. "The prosecution's priority is securing justice, not securing billable hours for big-city attorneys."

When Reeb stepped down, it appeared to be another blow to the prosecution in terms of public perception.

"After much reflection, I have made the difficult decision to step down as special prosecutor in the Rust case. My priority in this case — and in every case I've prosecuted in my 25-year career — has been justice for the victim," the office of New Mexico's First Judicial District Attorney said in a statement. "However, it has become clear that the best way I can ensure justice is served in this case is to step down so that the prosecution can focus on the evidence and the facts, which clearly show a complete disregard for basic safety protocols led to the death of Halyna Hutchins. I will not allow questions about my serving as a legislator and prosecutor to cloud the real issue at hand."

Baldwin was rehearsing with the gun that went off and killed Hutchins. He's maintained that he did not pull the trigger. Production on Rust, with Baldwin at the helm, has resumed with the support of Hutchins's widow.

I’m a LE sniper in Texas. We have 20” Bergara 6.5 creedmoor rifles. I am looking for recommendations for factory 6.5 cm tactical ammo.

We had been shooting 147 grain Hornady ELD. During the first year of Covid, Hornady sent us 147 gr TAP ammo instead of the ELD and told us it was the same thing. It was not. We used to shoot 1/2 minute groups with our rifles. Now we can barely hold 1” at 100 yds. We’ve tried 140 grain TAP; even worse groups. All five of our rifles are struggling, with experienced shooters. We even had Bergara re-barrel three of the rifles. Still no improvement.

Our next move is to try out ammunition. It has to be factory and it has to be suitable for tactical applications. We are going to shop around and get several different bullets and test them through each of our rifles.

I have been reloading for 5-6 years and have just reloaded for fun and to have good quality hunting bullets. Usually find the lands put the bullet a determined length away from the lands and then shoot powder charges in increments of 3-5 bullets. It's been so long since I have found enough time/components to remember the powder charge increments. Finally I have stocked up on enough components that I want to start up again. Watchd Eric cortinas video on seating depth determining the accuracy node and just going off of that. Curious about your guys thoughts? Sounds easier than doing powder charges? Also if anyone has done this do you just choose a powder charge and go with it? Obviously work up to it looking for pressure signs. Looking to find an accurate load for my 300 prc with this method. Hi guys, it was suggested i post this here its also over in the pit so i do hope this is the correct section for this post.
Unfortunately I had my u.s roll marked ser # G7008498 Remington 700 receiver stolen 4 weeks ago.
I've filed a police report with my local PD , This receiver was at a gun smiths for usmc A5 build , i had recently decided to stop this build due to funds being tight, im off work due to a knee replacement, the gunsmith sent back my A5 parts in one box, the barrel in one box and my receiver in one box i thought this was very odd but ok, all my parts except the receiver made it, the A5 parts in one box the barrel in another made it. The box that supposely held my receiver made it to my post local office open,
maybe the box wasn't sealed correctly I don't know , my regular Mail man who is a great guy said the box didnt have any extra tape on it, if lose packed it could of busted the usps seal there was no wrapping etc just a empty box that arrived at the main po. my mail man reported it immediately to his supervisor, they sent it back to sender & notified the po lost and found, so it might show up. if anyone comes across it would appreciate them reporting it to me , from what i learnt i cant report it to atf directly but my local pd with whom i filed the stolen firearm report will , i know its a long shot but you never know.

Pick this up for a project and found another rig that I wanted, so this has to go. Up for grabs is a Tikka CTR in 6.5 Creed with a 20 inch threaded barrel. Currently, it’s in a bedded Manners T4A that I picked up on the PX that has had a multi cam paint job (couple of spots could use touched up), and has CDI bottom metal. Will also come with the black factory stock and CTR mag. OEM stock and barreled action appear to have been shot very little, and is in great shape.
