:ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:....Reminds me of the time we had a REGT run around Ft Campbell. Route went thru the area were the CS Chamber was operated and in operation on the same day as our run. Nothing like getting a good chest full of CS blowing around while at a double time. FYI: We didn't die.

Elon Musk vs Tim Cook

On one hand, there's Musk, who would restore a modicum of free speech to the public square through Twitter. According to the left, the restoration of speech they don't agree with is dangerous, and therefore, Twitter must be shut down, Musk destroyed.

On the other hand, there's Cook, who suffers from the mental disorders of liberalism and homosexuality, who has used the biggest company in the world as an apologist and even a colluder with communist China, and who could, on a whim, shut down Twitter by dropping it from their monopolistic app store.

Who is the greater danger?

Does rain reduce computed drop?

Shooting last Sunday. Conditions: rain visible in scope - moderate rate; 49 F ; 68 % RH; 28.24 inHg absolute. Bullet: Hornady, .308 230 gr A-Tip, 2700 FPS, barrel 1:9, scope height 2 inches. The rain was not falling straight down, I needed about 0.4 right most of the time - range 0.2 to 0.8 right, it was pretty easy to read the rain and estimate the windage.

Computed trajectory at 1k is 7.7 mils. Actual trajectory 7.1 mils, I shot 25 rounds - 7.1 is a consistent number. Using Applied Ballistics on Android. Shooting was from a 60 F building (yeah, I know I'm a slacker). No rain drops on muzzle. I can't explain where the 0.6 mils came from. I know about rain drops on the muzzle causing a bump, that is not the case here.

Any ideas?

Night Vision Thermal or NV scanner

Just getting to night coyote hunting. Picked up a cheap sightmark wraith to get me by until my pulsar c50 comes in (wasn't sure it'd be here in time for our night coyote season starts). Figured I'd throw the wraith on a backup rifle in case somebody wants to go with me and they don't have NV. I've heard a thermal scanner is pretty handy to have but seems like you need to drop 3-4k on one for it to be even be worth a crap. Would something similar to a pvs14 fill my needs of spotting coyotes 4-500y out before they get right up on my call? I've thought a NV monocular on a ballistic helmet would be pretty nice especially for driving around at night looking for coyotes to go after. Thanks in advance for the help.

Just a reminder about discussing technical data

All,

Just a gentle reminder that discussing ITAR technical data on an open forum constitutes an illegal export.

The Hide is already in the spotlight because of some of it's members' antics, we don't need the State Department involved as well.

All posts with ITAR controlled data discussions will be deleted from public view.

Ammo availability

With Lapua stopping production on a dozen or so calibers' brass, the fact that most every caliber has limited selection (compared to the salad days of just 3-4 short years ago) and some are flat out of stock completely, what does the future of ammo availability hold?

is it really material shortages? is it labor shortages? will we ever see it back to normal again?

personally, i have been trying to find as much 260 rem ammo as i can but its harder and harder to come by. Prime dropped the caliber and it doesnt look like they are making any ammo, AT ALL.

30-06 has been a ghost too, for some reason. only available in a few bullet weights. maybe i am just shooting the wrong calibers....

McGowen Prefit Beware

I waited until I got my barrel back to post this. Myself and @kswaterfowl ordered 6mm Creedmoor Tikka prefit barrels from McGowen this year. When I got mine, I had to put four pieces of scothc tape on a go gauge to get the bolt to not close. By my unscientific method of measuring the layers of tape (a Starrett dial caliper) my head space was .005-.006" too long. Made a call to McGowen and spoke with Dan who was very helpful back when I was deciding on a barrel contour. This time he wasn't so pleasant. He pretty much told me that this is why they recommend a gunsmith install their prefit barrels! I told him that I have 7 barrels between 3 different Tikka actions and they all interchange. He pretty much said he wouldn't discuss this with me, like I was below him. He told me to ship it back and I asked for a return label. He pretty much yelled and said I would get one. A week later I had to call back and finally got it.

In the meantime @kswaterfowl and I checked his barrel and it was headspaced long also. He called and Dan told him to take it to a gunsmith. Gave him the same story of guys like us building rifles in their kitchens and garages are the problem.

Sent the barrel back, they got it 11/18. It shipped out on 11/21 and I got it yesterday. Nothing had been done to it. Buy prefits from McGowen at your own risk.

Both of our barrels and actions are at a local Hide member's shop. The actions are within .001" of each other. My barrel is headspaced .007" long, @kswaterfowl is .005" long.

SLAP ROUNDS?

Hey guys, I have some questions about SLAP rounds. How many different types/versions of the m903 exist?

Here are some pictures.

I suspect, threads are better to create enough grip between the bullet and the sabot. Is the version with threads on the core of the bullet better than the version that has a groove in the bullet base?
Is the core with threads original at all?

And by the way, does anyone here know exactly what material the sabot is made of? Is there a source where I can find out the exact dimensions of the sabot, accurate enough to rebuild it?
Edit: Rebuild the sabot, not the core

Thanks for any advice
