It is often said, people use 15x-18x all match long, due to wobble and needing enough field of view to stay on target. I would like to know what is the maximum magnification YOU FIND USEFUL during a PRS, NRL or steel target style match. Please exclude the times you use your scope as a spotter, that’s not what I am asking about. I want to know, when you are behind the gun, on target, do you even occasionally go up to 30x? 35x? Whatever that number is, please place a vote.

Ammo *Prices Reduced and List Updated 11/9/24* For Sale: Entire Extensive Ammo Collection - Ex-Fiance robbed my house!

***Prices Reduced and List Updated on 11/9/2024***

I took my kids to Disney for 3 days and when I returned home, the attorney I've been dating for the last 5 years cleared out my house. She literally took everything including my kids beds, all the plates, silverware, even the toilet paper... no I'm not joking. She left the guns, ammo, and a couch. So now I'm selling my entire collection of guns and ammo to try and save my house. I'll post more as soon as I can. I'm located near Tallahassee, FL., If you're LEO/MIL let me know and I'll see what I can do price wise. I did post this to another forum also. All ammo has been stored in ammo cans since purchases and in a climate controlled room.

All Prices are per box. Buyer pays shipping/insurance, I've been using UPS and have an account so it should save you some.

SOLD SOLD Bushnell DMR II 3.5-21x50 G3 SOLD

Selling a lightly used DMR II 3.5-21x50 G3 reticle. I used it in a couple matches, but otherwise it has sat in the safe for most of its life. It did have a light coat of spray paint at one point, which has since been removed. There are two tan lines on the objective bell, those are the last remnant of the paint that I couldn’t quite fully remove (pictured). The whole scope is in excellent condition.

Vortex defender scope caps and all of the original packaging would be included.

SOLD

Not interested in any trades at the moment.

I think we're going to get a GSD for the family. Not 100% decided yet, but close.

When I was really young before my parents divorced I had a Samoyed and a GSD. I was told they were stolen, but who knows what that means. I always suspected they developed some sort of problems and unfortunately took bullets. After that we had a blue heeler and then mutts. One of the mutts was GSD and I'm pretty sure heeler. We grew up in town and had a okay sized yard, but not enough room for the 3 dogs that we would have at a time. None of them ever received any real training. But we never had any problems with them.

Roommates had dogs later in life, but I didn't make any forays back into dog owning until I met my wife. She had miniature dogs which was a trip to me. Loved them. When we moved to Montana we gave our last inherited mini barker to a friend before we left (had to move into to a rental for a while). My children have been begging for a new pooch for the last 2+ years. Been talking about it the whole time off and on, just trying to figure out the best timing, and we're finally just going to say fuck it and hit send.

Some folks up the valley from us that we know breed GSD's. They have a young family as well and they say the dogs fit in with their family perfectly. So all good on that point. My wife had an Airedale when she was young, but most of her dogs have been tiny little yip yaps. We have 4 children: about 8 months, almost 3 years, 5, and 8. I've impressed upon my wife that she and the girls will have to train the dog/s. The way I figure it is I will have my 2 daughters (8 and 5) do the bulk of the training during the week. I'll quietly coach them while they relay to the dog. Then the wife will mix in on weekends, maybe walks at night when she can swing it. I just want to avoid a situation where the dog only wants to listen to Dad.

I'm not too awful worried about any serious training. I just want the dog to protect my children. That is the main goal of bringing the dog into our family in both mine and Momma's eyes. We live on the edge of the Bitterroot National Forest and the forest comes right up to our property. A month or so ago I finally parked on the other side of the valley and showed my wife where we live. I said "you see that range? That's all National forest and the animals that own it. You see that spot there on the edge of the trees? That's us. Of course the animals can go wherever they want and people spot them in the valley all the time. But babe, all they do is walk out of the woods into the land that I cleared and they are right there with us." Finally fucking clicked for her. Derp.

We have 10 acres that we plan to make a small homestead out of eventually, but it has been pretty slow going. I'm doing the best I can, but it's a lot for one guy to do on raw land with a young family. The likelihood of a wild critter attacking my people is probably lower than them having to dirt nap a rabid satanic commie fuck sometime in their lives, but I'd still like them to have an edge if the need ever arose. And that's where the GSD comes in. We both like the idea of a Great Pyrenees, and we'll probably add one later when appropriate, but I think starting with a GSD might work out better for us.

I'm really just looking for some GSD love and confirmation, but give me what ya got. And if anyone has any dog training tips videos, books, you name it I'd appreciate them.

ETA: Just brought him home.

I'm a big fan of the Elite Tactical line, I really believe that they are the best bang for the buck at their price point. I'm just upgrading to a DMR3.

Best high end action(s) for field use?

Hey guys, I've been scouring this and other forums for a week now trying to find an answer to this question and I could still use some guidance, so I apologize if I'm beating a dead horse.

I've dipped my toes into the precision game a few times over the years with gas guns and three different 700s in .308 and .30-06 and have a good bit of time behind Bergaras and a little on Tikkas. Got out of long range stuff due to not having anywhere to really shoot. Now I live in the big bear-filled Christmas tree farm out West and I'm looking to get back into it with a custom build .300 PRC for hunting and long range steel.

I see a lot of great info on various actions as far as feel and features (mostly in the context of competition/controlled conditions) but not much about general field reliability and robustness. I had pretty much made up my mind on the threaded Terminus Zeus LA , but while reading through a thread I saw a post about a highly regarded action from another manufacturer getting dirty and locking up the gun. It kinda gave me pause and now I'm wondering: What long actions are a good choice for a rifle that is liable to be lugged around, banged around on an ATV, get dirty, dropped, etc? I may be interested in competition in the future, but for now the primary goal is something thats durable, precise, and reliable under field conditions. It doesn't seem as simple as "Oh $1k+ they're all good" with this consideration.

Please share any insight on what to look for/avoid as i have NO experience with any non-factory actions. Thanks!

Iran Hostage Rescue... the untold story!

So... Jim is one of my best friends in the world. A guy with whom I would share my toothbrush circumstances warranted. We go back to far before I want to admit.

Jim was part of Det. A., Special Forces Berlin. His book on SF Berlin has topped the Amazon charts for military history/SF books off and on for several years.

His new book tells the story of Operation Eagle Claw (Iran Hostage Rescue) from the Tehran side. While Delta was moving in from Desert One, the folks from Berlin were already waiting in Tehran to handle... "Stuff."

His new book cleared the proper reviews after about a year. It is superb. I've read it and made a few notes... you know. From a marketing perspective. To help sales. Because, marketing.

If you want one of the great reads of 2024 when it comes out... preorder from Casemate. Sadly, no hardcover like Berlin. But we can work with a softcover to tell the story.

When it comes out, if anyone wants a signed bookplate, hit me up. I'll make it happen. Jim signs stuff.

If anyone wants to know the 'other side' of Desert One... well here ya go!

Cheers,

Sirhr

PS. Not affiliated with Casemate... Don't make anything off this. Not selling anything. But supporting a brother here. So... delete if you need to LL and Mods. Or not. I'd appreciate the 'not' side. But do what you have to do!

Japan Implements Anti-Loneliness Law

Japan’s Act on Promotion of Policy for Loneliness and Isolation went into effect on Monday, one year after Parliament enacted it.
The law identifies loneliness as “an issue for society as a whole” and tasks the government at all levels with providing support for lonely and isolated people.
The loneliness law was passed at the beginning of April 2023 as a response to the growing sense of isolation among Japanese citizens after the lockdowns and social distancing measures of the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic.
The effort to help lonely people will be spearheaded by a task force led by the prime minister, currently Kishida Fumio, and will include contributions from all of his cabinet members. Japan has an official “Minister of Loneliness,” a rotating position created in 2021, which Children and Families Minister Kato Ayuko currently holds.
State and local governments have also been directed to create support groups, provide outreach services to isolated persons, and create more opportunities for social interaction. Some early efforts include websites and telephone services where people can discuss their feelings of isolation.
Polls have shown an astounding 40 percent of adult Japanese people experience feelings of deep loneliness on a constant or chronic basis, with an especially heavy concentration among people in their twenties and thirties.
Asahi Shimbun on Tuesday interviewed people in their twenties who talked about their lives going permanently askew during the pandemic, as education shifted online and young people began spending all day in front of their computer screens.
One man, who is now 23 years old, said he went from being a happy and hopeful university student in 2019 to becoming physically ill from loneliness and depression. He has since volunteered to help with support groups for others with similar issues, although he says he still feels occasionally sick and agoraphobic. A fairly common issue among younger Japanese people seems to be a lingering fear of leaving their homes after the pandemic lockdowns.
“When you suffer from depression at a young age, you have nowhere to go,” the young man said, putting his finger on the problem Japan hopes to solve with its loneliness law.
Waseda University professor Kikuchi Yoshimi identified two other social problems:
There are a wide range of problems related to loneliness and isolation, including economic deprivation and the resulting lonely deaths, and the 80-50 problem, where parents in their 80s live together with their shut-in children in their 50s and are socially isolated.
Japan’s growing problem with “lonely deaths” or kodokushi made international news in the summer of 2021, as a growing number of people died during the pandemic lockdowns and went undiscovered for months. A cottage industry of cleaners who specialized in respectfully disposing of the lonely dead quickly flourished.
The “80-50 Problem” is a phenomenon created by younger Japanese people, known as hikikomori, who withdraw from society — sometimes after giving up on building a career or starting families of their own — and move back in with their parents. The result is a large cohort of people who are now well into middle age (the “50s”) who have lived with their now-venerable parents for years (the “80s”).

This arrangement is increasingly seen as an unhealthy lifestyle that increases the isolation of both the young people and their parents, turning the family into an isolated unit that has little interaction with the rest of society. The hikikomori tend to have stunted life and social skills, having lived their entire lives under their parents’ roof, which leads to bizarre situations like elderly parents getting stuffed in closets after they die because their middle-aged children have no idea how to make funeral arrangements.
Widespread loneliness feeds into Japan’s demographic crisis, as isolated people tend to avoid getting married or having children.
One theory holds that Japanese culture was especially vulnerable to the problem of young people feeling helpless and ashamed because they could not find work when the entry-level job market grew tighter. Having endured the intense pressures of the Japanese educational system, generations of hikikomori felt betrayed when they could not ride the smooth track to the career success their parents enjoyed. They moved back in with their parents, found electronic distractions from their loneliness, and abandoned all thoughts of beginning a family of their own.
“The rise in unmarried individuals and financial woes are believed to be driving loneliness among the working population. Better outreach support is needed,” Waseda University sociology professor Ishida Mitsunori said in 2023 when the loneliness law was passed.

Impressive what NK can do with cardboard.

Needed a good laugh today; this fit the bill. I think the millipied transport vehicle needs a few more wheels though. ...Maybe some outrigger training wheels?

You're going to pay, then pay again to subscribe, to look at anyone/anything around you. I fucking hate subscriptions. "You'll own nothing, and be happy."

"The PLOP is really saving the ‘Public Land Hunter’ from temptation, by keeping them from seeing the choice habitat and abundant wildlife on private lands unless they have a ClearView subscription"

I imagine the marketplace will cull these fuckers in short order, unless, say, the .gov were to mandate their use while they get their 10% for being "the Big Guy."

To the surprise of no one, the NRA is once again late to the party and trying to take credit for the work of others.

Wayne LaPierre you're my hero.

"
“[C]ompliance with the Final Rule is not discretionary, and the NRA’s members face severe penalties for their failure to comply with the Final Rule,” Judge Lindsay wrote in NRA v. ATF. “Accordingly, both of the final requirements for injunctive relief are satisfied because the threatened injury to the NRA’s members outweighs the threatened harm to the Defendants, and enforcement of the Final Rule under the circumstances will not disserve the public interest.”

The ruling is a concrete, if temporary, win for the NRA. While the group has lost millions of members due to an ongoing corruption scandal, and it’s unclear exactly how many remain, those who’ve stuck with the group will now enjoy protection from the long arm of the ATF. The decision puts NRA members under the same legal umbrella employed for members of the Second Amendment Foundation, Firearms Policy Coalition, and Gun Owners of America through previous rulings."
