What is the best home defense or CQB offensive gun?

I presume it is a suppressed SBR. Is it a 300 blackout gun or something more powerful like a 308? If so, which? The DDM4 V7P seems great, but possibly the barrel is too long at 10.3”? What suppressor, short or long?

For attachments, I would prefer an EXPS3-0, Cloud Rein 3.0, flip up irons, and a VFG. That’s all I think it would need as this would be used as a room clearing and short engagement distance gun.

Price doesn’t matter.

Sidearms & Scatterguns 2024 shooting goals. Maybe the Pirate will help

I set some goals for myself for 2023 and surprisingly I hit almost all of them. I shot more than 6 pistol matches, I shot a bunch of 22 rifle matches, I hit a target at a mile. Add on I shot a 2 gun team match, even though I sucked and was totally unprepared I learned a ton, and know what I need to do to prepare for the next one. At the last 22 match I tied for 5th with a guy that is a legit good, also I shot 89% of what the winner shot, I was pretty proud of that.

The goal for 2024 is to shoot pistols good. Maybe run some 2 gun matches. Also would like to go to the rimfire academy at Rifles Only. Maybe sign up for a USPSA membership and go take a range officer class.

The Pirate seems to know whats going on when it comes to USPSA pistol shooting.
So Pirate, what do you suggest? Books, websites, places to read up? Videos, guys to watch and follow? Drills and practice?
A few things I know I need to do is run the timer and draw from a holster and dry fire. Also shooting weak hand. Looking over a stage and being able to know ahead of time where to reload, where to shoot fast and slow, what order to shoot targets in so I can get off the last target fastest and move to the next position...
And loosing a bunch of weight so I move faster...

“These are the times that try men’s souls” Merry Christmas

1703341957307.png

Thomas Paine wrote these famous words in his pamphlet The American Crisis, dated December 23, 1776, a time when Patriot forces stood on the verge of losing the Revolutionary War. Paine implored Americans to not give up the fight. George Washington ordered that the pamphlet be read aloud to his troops on Christmas Eve 1776 before they crossed the Delaware River to launch a surprise attack at Trenton.

indent-spacer.gif
These are the times that try men’s souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands it now deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered. Yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: ’tis dearness only that gives every thing its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods, and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as freedom should not be highly rated. . . .

Let it be told to the future world, that in the depth of winter, when nothing but hope and virtue could survive, the city and the country, alarmed at one common danger, came forth to meet it and to repulse it. . . . I love the man that can smile in trouble, that can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. ’Tis the business of little minds to shrink; but he whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves his conduct, will pursue his principles unto death.

Squirrel rifle

I am sick of the squirrels taunting me in the deer blind, they are incessant and they need to be tamed. Shots would be 30-80yds so I am leaning towards 22 LR but open to 17 HMR or 22 MAG?!

I have a DA Mask HD I’d like to run on the rifle so it needs to have a threaded barrel. I am not married to an action but I am leaning towards bolt. Which make/models should I be considering here? What power range for the glass?

Muzzle device confusion

I need some help understanding options for muzzle devices. I currently have a tbac can that uses the cb(actually BA) mount. So a brake, semi permamently attached to the muzzle that the can attaches to. Works great.

I just bought another can that has hub threads. I believe it comes with a hub threaded cap thats made to direct thread to the muzzle. Simple. Problem is Id like to keep some kind of muzzle device on the rifle when the suppressor isnt attached. Thats where I get confused.

So,...what then, would be the purpose of ever using something like a rearden/cherry bomb/ xeno type device? I like the idea of having some sort of muzzle device loktited to the muzzle threads on the rifle in the event that at some point I somehow inadvertanty booger up the threads. But then you have to have another adapter that adapts the muzzle device threads to the HUB threads. I have 3 rifles I plan to use it on and Im thinking of putting one of those (rearden/cherry bomb/xeno) type devices on each of them to swap the suppressor back and forth to. But then Ive got 2 different adapter devices between the muzzle threads themselves and the suppressor..?

Whenever I get back to my pickup after hunting I always take my suppressor off to put the rifle back in the case and currently that leaves the tbac brake on the muzzle of the rifle, but with the new hub suppressor I just bought Im trying to figure out what people use.

Seams indecent to just flash naked muzzle threads around all willy nilly.

Need some advice. Thank you

General Purpose Battle Rifle: KAC SR-25 14.5" ACC vs 16" APC

Would be equipped with:
  • KAC 7.62 suppressor
  • NightForce ATACR 1-8 FC-DMx
  • Offset Aimpoint T-2
  • Cloud Defensive Rein 3.0
  • Vertical Foregrip
I don't plan on putting a bipod on this. More of a battle rifle. I'm tall and decently strong but I don't want it to be unwieldy.

For all distance engagements. Definitely short-distance. I'm not sure the 14.5" (with suppressor) would be any better at CQB than the 16", but I'm not sure.

Which do you recommend?
