Shorty 223AI Builds

So @WillHugh and I sent out 223AI barreled actions to get turned down to 18" and profiled for OCM5/AEM5 suppressors. The goal was to build intermediate range, low recoil, bolt guns that bridged the gap between Mk12 gas guns and 6.5CM capabilities. If velocities of 2850fps with 80gr ELDs are achieved, the guns are transonic to 750-800 yards and supersonic past 1000.

The 223AI of mine was cut down from 24" to 18". I was running 25.6gr of Varget in Winchester brass behind Hornady 80gr ELDM and 80gr Amax. Velocity prior to the cut was 2950fps and it shot clovers at 100 yards.

Got the barreled actions back yesterday although my Manners TF3A is still with the gunsmith being inleted for a Badger EFR, so I put it in a spare Manners EH2. I did learn that I needed to dremel out the front of the Accurate metal mags to get clearance for the 80gr Amax bullets whereas the plastic MDTs have always had room.

The range trips today was promising! The rifle shot around 1/2 MOA, with 2 of the 5-shot groups a clover leaf around under .4" at 100 yards. Velocity averaged 2803fps at 87'F. The surprise for me was how high the SD was at 17. The translates to an ES of 57fps, or about 0.5 mils at 1000 yards. At 500 yards, this load is about 2.7mils of elevation and about 9.7 mils at 1000 yards.

Since I have about 60 rounds left, I plan to shoot the rest and then try some StaBall Match was had great results in my Mk12 and my Dad's .223 bolt gun. I am hoping the SD can tighten up to high single digits with velocity in the high 2800s.

Will has his rifle setup in a sweet Manners T5 and unlike me, his OCM5 isn't in NFA jail, so the rifle looks amazing.

These promise to be relatively lightweight and fun guns, looking forward to stretching them over the summer and during some night shoots.

SOLD Marlin 1895 GS 45/70

Marlin 1895 GS in 45/70. JM stamped, unfired. At the time of puchase in 2002, I had another 1895 that I shot and didn't really enjoy, so this one got no love. Fast forward almost 20 years with a renewed interest, I took it out of the box with the intention of using it, but never got past working the lever quite a bit. Apparently, another rifle got jealous because I sat it back in gen pop and found out it got in a fight with another rifle. It came out on the losing end with a few bumps and scratches on the stock, the other rifle unscathed. So much for sheltered kids growing up to be tough. Anyway, it now thinks it knows everything, is grown up, and wants to leave home, so here we are. $1300 shipped.

JP Enterprises Fmos bcg issues

Hello,

I have 2 LR .308's I built with Aero Precision lowers and uppers.
The 18" has a custom Bartlein barrel and the 16" has a Wilson combat Recon barrel.

No matter what the configuration, the JP bcg ALWAYS jams.

Conversely, Whenever I use my Aero Precision bcg, no matter what the spring/ weight configuration, it runs flawlessly.
- both rifles run FLAWLESSLY with the Aero Precision bcg in any spring/ gas/ buffer/ magazine/ ammo configuration.

For example, if I put a regular buffer spring with a 3.4 oz buffer weight in both rifles, both rifles run flawlessly with the Aero Precision bolt... however, both rifles will jam with the JP enterprises fmos bcg (empty casing above new round that won't feed).

If I put Springco Orange buffer spring in both rifles with 5.1 buffer weight, again, the Aero Precision bcg runs flawlessly, but when I put the JP enterprises fmos bcg in, they both fail to cycle.
It's not a gas issue.
It's not a barrel or custom build issue.
If it were, then the rifles wouldn't feed perfectly with the Aero Precision bcg.

I always test each set up on each rifle with the same springs/ ammo/ mags etc to isolate the bcg variable- so, the only variable in each comparison is the bcg: Aero Precision bcg vs the JP Enterprises bcg_ (high pressure bolt)... everything else is the same.... the JP enterprises fmos bcg always fails to cycle... the Aero Precision bcg always produces 100% reliable feeds..
Something must be wrong with the JP enterprises fmos bcg/ high pressure bolt.
I've emailed JP Enterprises twice.... haven't heard back yet... I've wasted thousands chasing this issue thinking it must've been something I did wrong with my build... but, apparently, that's not the case.
What do yall think?

SOLD WTS/ WTT Custom ATX 6mm Dasher (price dropped)

Gen 1 ATX cerakote in a black multicam pattern

Folding hinge, full enclosed forend, dependabuilt bag rider

6mm Dasher barrel in I believe stealth gray cerakote.

Chambered by Fritz @ black canyon customs with an alpha legacy reamer, 27” long 7.5tw 5/8x24 muzzle threads. Have approx 800-850 rounds down the barrel of a mild 31gr load of Varget and 105 hybrids. Getting 2880fps with 105’s. Ton of life left in this thing.

AX mag with HRD kit
Standard 308 AX mag

Wiebad cheek pad (never used)

Newer comp trigger set low at AI

Minor wear on the ARCA rail from match use. Has been run in matches but never abused in match settings (ie slammed into props, dropped, etc)

For the whole thing (minus optic and bipod and SR brake) I’m asking 6000 5500 and split shipping and insurance from my ffl to yours. I will entertain reasonable offers. This thing hammers, just have the bug to try something else again.

@BurtG no I will not take 2400 for it 😂

Any questions please PM me. I’ll get the dust off before it ships. I don’t know why the photos are upside down but you get the idea.

Trades with cash on your end:
Impact SA AW cut action (308 bolt face)
Foundation centurion in black cut for an impact
Tangent 3-15M or P with a Gen3Xr
Maybe something else?

Elon Musk makes BBC reporter eat his own sh*t. Calls him a liar.

BBC reporter says he's seen a rise in hate speech since Musk aquired Twitter. Musk asks for one example. Reporter can't come up with one. Musk then calls him a liar in a Live interview.

I bet Chris Wallace won't interview him.

And I've seen less hate speech on Twitter after Musk took over and flushed the rabid anti-Trump/anti-conservative employees. But when one hears the term 'hate speech' and those that use it, it only applies to and is synonymous with conservatives.

Steve Van Zandt just this week called for the complete extermination of all GOP voters. But of course, coming from a NJ Biden sucking communist, thats not 'hate speech.'

AR-15 223 Proof barrel - thoughts?

Would love feedback on this:

I am building my SHTF AR-15 (gathering all the parts rn before I have Cobalt Kinetics assemble (I really like their receivers and handguard setup and the fact that they are willing to work with me on a custom setup).

I have a Noveske AR-10 so I like heavy precision, but I don’t want the AR-15 to be DMR like that, more RECCE
I decided “let’s go with something more robust/fancy than their typical Rosco barrels they use (I’m kind of a gucci snob at times…)

So I decided to look at the barrel marketplace: hmm what’s the most expensive barrel I wonder? Well proof carbon fiber barrels came up on Primary Arms as the most expensive
I thought, well those look interesting, but so expensive … oh wait a 14.5” 1:8 twist 223 Wylde Carbon Fiber barrel On Sale for $699??

Now as an American, I am a sucker for sales/discounts like a fly is a sucker for a turd

As a SHTF rifle, I’m fine with spending money if it’s the BEST choice.

I have not seen a lot of Proof Carbon Fiber 223 Wylde barrels reviewed/discussed, so I want y’all’s opinions. I assume I haven’t seen a lot of reviews due to the price point more than any performance issue, but at $700 (instead of $900) it fell into a price point that I could stretch to, if it’s the best

It’s on backorder, so I could cancel and pivot, but it just seems like a great option
Would be running like 73gr eld-m or 55 gr v-max to start from Hornady is my thinking
Need to do more research there

Have a primary arms PLXC 1-8 on backorder as well, will be in a Scalarworks

RECCE is the goal
Defining RECCE as “light, precise, able to do battle” idk if that’s the actual definition

Do you guys think this would be a sick setup? Will this give me a precision weapon capable of battle?

AIAX vs AT-X can’t decide

Hey AI fans,

Kind of in a dilemma. I see plus’s and negs for both the AX and AT-X and can’t quite decide which route to go.

I think cost will be about equal once I add some weights and a bridge so price isn’t really a concern.

AIAX in .308 delivery around November…

AT-X in 6.5cm available now

I’ve kind of always wanted an AX but never did it and now the AT-X has come out too…

This rifle won’t be used for matches. Just me shooting in some wooded areas, clear cuts around BC and some ranges. Tripod and prone.

Having a tough time deciding
