Leofoto, new Official Rifle Ball Head of PRS

Just saw this announced. Aren't these the guys that tried to market a copy of the Anvil awhile back? Though I see it's no longer on the leofoto USA webpage but still on leofoto.com.

I have a question I have been wondering about are there any companies that rent out precision rifle scopes? I have found rentals for spotters, binos and thermal/ night vision and even a few firearms for “hunting”, but nothing in the precision rifle scope realm.

So am I alone in my interest of wanting to test out a scope before putting the money down for something like a ZCO ,March, Nightforce, or TT, or are there others like me?

No pressure sign with virgin brass, but significant pressure+slower MV in 2nd firing..reason?

Hi All,

Currently developing a load for 33xc in 30 inch bartlein for my AXMC. 299 Grain DTACs, H1000 110 grain, 0.001 neck tension, shoulder bumbed 0.002, 0.015 off lands.

When I fired virgin brass with same load (without body sizing) I did not get any pressure signs (except one odd ejector marks on some pieces) and velocity was ~3150. However in very next firing I am getting punctured primers, cratering, ejecter marks etc with same powder, neck tension and seating depth. The MV has also dropped to 3050. I bumped shoulder by 0.002 before reloading and the round chambered perfectly into my chamber without bolt handle freely falling.

I am trying to understand what might be going on here. If anyone has any hypothesis that they can share, will be great.

thanks

What does your shop charge for transfers?

I'm kicking around the idea of starting a small shop for transfers, some cans, and some other accessories. What does your shop charge for a transfer on guns? I know some places I've worked charged more for form 4 transfer fees. I'd like to get an idea of maybe what the avg is or what is too high in most people's minds. Don't give me your butt buddy discount price either, lol. I want to know the actual price.

Bergara HMR not playing nice with Milsurp rounds?

Hi there. First post aside from my mandatory new member intro post.

I recently picked up a Bergara HMR in .308. While at a gun show recently, I picked up a few hundred rounds of loose milsurp. Various headstamps including WCC, WRA, WMA, LC, etc. I'm noticing that my bolt will push forward these rounds, but on some it refuses to lock the bolt unless I give it a nominal hit with my palm. Definitely doesn't "feel right"

Of the stamped heads, WRA fails to lock the bolt in every case, WCC almost always allows the bolt to lock, LC and WMA is a 50/50 mixed bag. Add that my Hornady Match Rounds lock and cycle smooth as butter (and about half the milsup ammo I have does too), I am trending towards the ammo being the issue and not the rifle.

I do see a rub spot near the neck tip of the casing when doing this, and small brass shavings. Nothing I can't clean out if it a break in period thing. I read some common hints on checking mount screws, but none breach the length of the screw holes that I can see/feel. While I would suspect these aren't reloads, I've never bought loose milsurp and have zero idea.

So the questions I have:
Is this a bolt-action break in period thing?
Am I causing any rifle damage seeing the shavings when I have to give the bolt some oomph?
Am I still safe to fire these loads?
Is Milsurp ammo "tolerances" not tolerant enough for modern rifles?

Any other insights are welcome as well.

Thanks all,

-YHPP

The Drone Pilot "Scouts" are in your neighborhood

TAFT, La. (WVUE) - Two men from Brooklyn, New York were arrested last week for flying a drone over three chemical plants in St. Charles Parish, according to information provided by the sheriff’s office.
Volodymyr Dorogobid, 38, and Tigran Avetisyan, 39, were booked on three counts of unlawful use of an unmanned aircraft system and also for obstruction of justice for tampering with evidence.
After the pair were arrested on Feb. 21, the sheriff’s office says that detectives determined that they had flown the drone over three chemical plants by reviewing the device’s flight plan. Detectives say the flight plan displayed that the drone clearly flew over Dow Chemical, Linde, and American Air Liquide.
On the day of the arrest, the sheriff’s office said that they received a call about the drone and found the two men parked on the side of the road on LA 3142 in a black Kia Sportage. The drone was in mid-flight when deputies arrived and the two had operational controls in hand at the time.
The sheriff’s office said that deputies on the scene told the men to land their drone and retrieve it from the nearby levee. However, the suspects place the drone in a bag and refused to show the drone to officers and answer questions.
Following the arrest, Dorogobid told investigators that he and Avetisyan had hidden a drone in a field.
The sheriff’s office says that authorities seized all of the equipment the two men had on their person and in their car. They also said they are working with the FBI to recover information.

Volkswagen Refused to Help IL Police Locate Kidnapped Boy Because Car GPS Subscription Was Expired

Volkswagen refused to use its GPS tracking feature to assist Illinois police in tracking a stolen car with a kidnapped 2-year-old boy inside. The company wouldn’t track the stolen vehicle because the owner’s GPS subscription had expired, leading a representative to tell the police the subscription would have to be reactivated for the automaker to help. Luckily, the boy was found unharmed after he was dumped in a parking lot.

Ars Technica reports that Volkswagen’s Car-Net service, which enables car owners to track and manage their vehicles remotely, has come under fire after the company declined to assist in locating a stolen vehicle that contained a 2-year-old boy. The kidnapping incident happened in Illinois when a woman drove her 2021 Volkswagen Atlas back to her Libertyville home. A man in a mask got out of a white BMW and tried to steal her car as she went inside to get her other child. The woman fought to protect her 2-year-old son, but the attacker knocked her to the ground, stole her car, then drove off.

While the attackers fled, one of the drivers ran over the woman, causing “serious injuries to her extremities,” the Lake County Sheriff’s Department said. However, despite her injuries, the woman was still able to call 911 and sheriff’s deputies immediately responded.

Sheriff’s detectives called Volkswagen Car-Net to track the car while looking for the stolen car and the child in danger. In a statement posted on Facebook about the incident on February 23, the Lake County Sherrif’s department wrote: “While searching for the stolen vehicle and endangered child, sheriff’s detectives immediately called Volkswagen Car-Net, in an attempt to track the vehicle. Unfortunately, there was a delay, as Volkswagen Car-Net would not track the vehicle with the abducted child until they received payment to reactivate the tracking device in the stolen Volkswagen.”

It turns out the owner’s Car-Net service agreement had expired. A Car-Net representative demanded $150 to restart the service and find the SUV. According to Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli, the detective begged the representative, explaining the “extremely exigent circumstance.” However, the representative refused, citing company policy. “The detective had to work out getting a credit card number and then call the representative back to pay the $150 and at that time the representative provided the GPS location of the vehicle,” Covelli said. Covelli described the ordeal “16 minutes of hell” in one interview.

Volkswagen claimed there was a “serious breach” of its procedure for collaborating with law enforcement. The business claimed that the incident was a violation of the procedure it had in place because it uses a third-party vendor to provide the Car-Net service. Volkswagen stated that it was resolving the issue with the parties concerned.

“Volkswagen has a procedure in place with a third-party provider for Car-Net Support Services involving emergency requests from law enforcement. They have executed this process successfully in previous incidents. Unfortunately, in this instance, there was a serious breach of the process. We are addressing the situation with the parties involved,” the company said in a statement.

Luckily, the child was found safe after being dumped in a parking lot and rescued by a good Samaritan. The Volkswagen vehicle was also found abandoned, but there have been no arrests in the assault, kidnapping, and carjacking case so far.

Does anyone actually disassemble their rifle?

have a discussion with a few friends and we started talking about rifle care in general

a few questions kept coming around

unless used in foul weather;

does anyone take their action out of the chassis or stock?

does anyone take their muzz brake off?

if they take it off, some brakes have a rock set put on by the smith, do they lock-tite or rock set it back on?

does anyone take their barrel off if they dont have have a quick change system like AI/DTA etc?

questions along those line..

we came to an informal consensus that 90% of gun owners are not very handy and might have anxiety about pulling their 5000$ custom apart

id bet that 99% of gun owners do not have a barrel vice or action wrench either

it might be getting more popular with prefits and 6mm cartridges that burn barrels compared to life long 308 barrels 15 years ago

just spit balling ideas
