Not Bartlein Barrels

Guys I cannot tell you how many now this year but just had another customer send in barrels that are not ours. In the attached pic....the customer bought components (along with actions) and think the shop he bought them from did all the gunsmithing work. Shop recommended our blanks and customer went with it. Guns don't shoot. So customer calls us up and sends the barrels in for inspection.

The 30cal barrel is a button rifled barrel. Has 5 grooves but not 5R rifling.

The 7mm barrel is a 6 groove. We don't do 6 groove rifling on 7mm's. 4 groove or 5R only.

If you are buying guns sight unseen and or components and getting the machined work done before you receive the components. Especially if you are dealing with a shop you've never dealt with before......ask for the s/n of the barrel. It's stamped on the breech face of the barrel and gets lost when the threading and chamber work gets done. If you know the s/n you can always call us and confirm if it's ours or not. Also if you buy the barrel from us the s/n will be on your invoice as well. Record the s/n for your records.

Also most barrel makers don't s/n they're barrels. If the shop says there is no s/n tread lightly.

I bum for the customer because he is out money and has guns that don't shoot and we've got to be the bad guy to break the news to the customer when this happens.

I've even received complete guns in this year where the customer complained they wouldn't shoot etc...and upon inspecting the gun and trying to figure out what is going on we find out not our stick on the gun.

One shop and I won't mention names sent me not one...not two but six 30cal barrels all chambered in 300wm and the complaint was they don't shoot and need the barrels replaced. So when the barrels got here and I looked at them.....and I called the guy up and told him I'm not replacing them! He asked why? I said for starters they are button rifled. Second... I said they are all 6 groove 30cal barrels. We don't make 6 groove 30cal barrels. I looked up his past orders and they only ever bought 4 grooves from us and not a lot of them. Not a steady customer. So either they kept the barrels for themselves and bought cheaper 30cal 6 groove barrels from another shop and tried to pass them off as ours and tried to get them replaced.

Later, Frank

Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband assaulted in break-in ... - KKTV

https://www.kktv.com › 2022/10/28 › nancy-pelosis-husb...

39 minutes ago — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband, Paul, was “violently assaulted” by an assailant who broke into their San Francisco home early Friday, ...

Lapua....

So admititedly, I can be somewhat of a grammar nazi at times, but not so much when it comes to pronunciation, but I just watched a video, and the way the guy pronounced Lapua sounded weird to me. He pronounced it Lap-Wah. I've only ever heard La-poo-uh.
It's like when I had my shop back in the day, and everyone said Lee-Uh-Pold. I wouldn't correct anyone, but I would pronounce it Loo-Pold, and that's pretty much how I hear it today
What's the consensus here?

Diesel fuel shortage

I'm hearing from all over that there is only *about* 3 weeks worth of diesel fuel out there right now, and that it's not going to change soon.
I could drop about 19 youtube video links, Fox, Cnn, BBC, etc, but why ?
I'm assuming y'all have heard about this already.....haven't you ?
So....any tips other than making sure your tank is full ?

Zero Tech Trace ADV Spotter w/ Mil Reticle

Had one of those pleasant surprises drop in on me today:

IMG_0001.JPG

I don't have a ton of details; I sent a note to Australia but have not heard back yet.

That said, the Spotter has three sections for M-Lok rails, each side and the top. The bottom short Pic Rail is mounted in screw holes, not a rail. Plus, it has a separate mount for a standard 1/4-20.

IMG_0002.JPG

It is a 20-60x FFP with a Mil-Based Reticle, which is very basic. There is nothing I see on their website for me to link, but here is the sheet:

IMG_3545.JPG

IMG_0003.JPG

They sent the spotter over with Magpul MLOK Rail sections; I ended up using some spare Cadex I had because I felt they fit better. The Plastic rails probably pair better, but the metal Cadex ones are really nice and fit it like a glove.

Front window review-wise, it's a nice spotter. I don't know the cost yet, but it's FFP and has a Reticle. I was really impressed when I opened the box, especially seeing a reticle.

Aside from the Objective, the body is rubberized and armored, and the mag ring and focus work really well; not sticky, has no rough spots, it turns very well.

I appreciate the guys supporting the site and forwarding the unit; it will undoubtedly get used, as I think it has a nice picture, the reticle being a huge plus. When we do the RifleKraft USA Classes having as many spotters on the line as possible is good, so definitely get eyes on it.

Short light suppressed whitetail hunting rifle

I'm curious if anyone has experience using a 16.5in barrel 308 or 6.5cm for hunting. Most of the factory rifles with a 16.5' barrel are heavy. My thought was to buy a tikka tx3 lite in 6.5cm, have a gunsmith cut the barrel to 16.5" and thread it. Could probably either thread to 1/2x28 and add an adapter to get to 5/8x24 or just add the 1/2x28 xeno brake for use with my nomad. Top with a 3x9 or LPVO and have a 8ish pound short light woods rifle for whitetail. I know 6.5cm thrives in long barrels, i have a 24in long range 6.5cm, but looking at the ballistics it seems like i can get over 1000ft/lbs out to 300 yards or so. My shots are typically inside 150 and deer in the carolinas a small. kind of a scout, kind of like a fix or cross but in a traditional stock. 6.5 will have lower recoil and less drift and drop and at the distances I'm hunting I don't think i'll miss the gains in energy by using 308. Has anyone tried anything like this or can talk me out it? The thing holding me back is that if it was a good idea i bet there would be factory rifles in 6.5 this short. Thanks for any input

MOA vs MRAD - am I making too much of this?

My project may be odd to this forum, but whatever... I'm trying to push the boundaries of a scout rifle. I've been hunting and training with this platform for over 20 years and I understand where it shines. Fast shots, at shorter distances (inside 300 yards) is the wheelhouse for this. But y'all have finally convinced me that I've limited myself too much. The gun is capable of more. I set out on a systematic effort to find an optic that would open up the possibility of longer shots while retaining most of the handiness that is so appealing to me.

The criteria is this: no more than 3x on the low end and preferably 2.5X. Top end around 10X. SFP because much of my hunting happens at dusk and I value speed onto target. 20 ounces or less. Must have at least 26 mils of internal adjustment because my rifle doesn't have the option of a canted base. The Steyr Scout has Weaver slots for scope mounting built into the aluminum receiver. Easily adjustable turrets - not capped.

There are surprisingly few scopes that meet all of this but I settled on the Nightforce NXS 2.5-10X42.

My problem is the reticle. I have a store credit at Optics Planet because they sold me a Leupold Mark 3 that was advertised with 36 mils of internal adjustment when it really only has 18. Since I had mounted it, they would only do credit for the return. Fine, but they don't have the MRAD version of the Nightforce in stock and the backorder is 2-5 months. I've only ever used MOA and I'm not looking for a specialized long range optic but I did want to take a class or two with it and figured MRAD would be advantageous. I know MOA will work but I feel like the language of the long range community is nearly universally MRAD. I don't want to limit my training because I have an MOA scope.

Am I making too much of the MRAD issue? Does it matter? Related to this, is there a scope I'm not considering? I considered the Swampfox 1-10 but I just don't trust the long term robustness of it and the reviews seem mixed.

308
20” Barrel
AAC Brake
Bolt fluted from LRI
Bolt knob from LRI
EGW 20 MOA base (cut)

I’m the second owner. I’ve shot about 2 boxes of 150 SST Fiocchi through it. Shoots that at about 1-1.5 moa. Mounted in a XLR evolution as a lightweight hunting rifle. Scope base cut in front to accommodate the XLR chassis

Does have some very minor surface rust in spots. Only cosmetic no pitting. Typical rust you’d see on the newer 870’s etc

Trigger had screws that backed out. When I got the rifle the trigger was over 9lbs. Those screws were adjusted then lightly jb welded to keep in place. Trigger breaks clean just under 3 lbs

Exploring Alternative to Pay Pal

I have an alternative that might work with my system, it's Credit Card so it will come with added fees and because it is VISA & MC their Anti Gun Stance is still present so anyone complaining after that will be auto-banned.

We have a processor that appears to be 2A friendlier so I am reaching out and actually detailing all the bullshit you guys post on here to make sure they are good with it, because believe it or not, that is an issue. The Pay Pal stuff is for "misinformation" that is you saying something they don't like, that is an open door.

I am waiting to hear back and then will get the ball rolling
