New Vertical Grips-Your Input Requested

Hello All,

Very excited to see these in some of your hands.

Lots of care and testing put into the ergos of this grip, which I intend as a bridge between more common "AR" oriented grips and bolt gun "grips" which are typically chunky and useless beyond guiding the rifle.

3D printed, this time from PA12 rather than my typical PA11. This allows for a lower price point and there's some unique internal geometry to keep the robustness where I like it. Available with and without a small thumb shelf and "finger pad", right now only for righties but that will be changing soon.

You can check out more below, and I welcome any and all input, requests, etc!

My Tacoma had an accident

2021 Tacoma, got rear-ended on the way home from work, car in front of another car decided they wanted to turn at the last minute. I slammed my brakes but the guy behind me wasn't as fast I guess.
Instead of checking to see if we were ok, dude in front of me left. I guess it doesn't matter, I didn't manage to hit him.
I thought the guy in the Kia was hurt. Took me a few seconds to realize what happened and I heard yelling, coming from behind me. Turns out the other driver was beside my truck freaking out. Nice guy at least, wish I could have met the dude under better circumstances. His airbag went off mine didn't.

Bed is shifted and hit the cab. No longer an even space between the cab and bed. I'm thinking its more of the box and less of the frame. Eh either way, kinda impressed with the Toyota. Wanna take bets if its totaled?

Accessories Gone

Free to a good home. I don’t need them anymore, but I’m sure some 5 jump chump needs this. Complete single point and lowering line. Lowering line was manufactured in 2013. This was my personal set, I’m retired and don’t think red dawn is coming anytime soon. I’m relatively close to Bragg if you want them and are from there.

How to reduce AR15 recoil WITHOUT adjustable gas block or muzzle brake?

I'm looking to build a Service Rifle AR15 for CMP EIC, and there are certain rules that must be adhered to. The big ones are:

-5.56/.223
-Stoner gas impingement or piston, NO adjustable gas block
-20" barrel max, no portion of the barrel may exceed 0.75" forward of the gas block
-No muzzle brake or compensator. Flash suppressor is allowed, but not required
-To my understanding, there is NO weight limit

There are several other rules and largely don't matter for this post, but for reference, a 4.5 power optic isn't required, but is allowed. The trigger must be a minimum of 4.5 pounds, and can either be a single or two stage. So there is some leeway allowed in the rifle. While I certainly don't want to cheat, if a rule is not explicitly mentioned, I'd assume there is no limitation. But, assuming can be dangerous.

About the only thing I can come up with is a low mass BCG, but I worry about running one without an adjustable gas block. Instead of an adjustable gas block, are there adjustable buffer/springs that can somewhat do the same thing? JP Enterprise silent capture? I know there are adjustable gas tubes, but, I feel that would be pushing it. Is it possible to have a fixed gas block with a smaller gas port, or one that you drill out yourself? That would take a lot of time to tune, but, technically be legal?

My only other thoughts are, I know the flash suppressor isn't a muzzle brake. But does it offer ANY kind of recoil reduction? The rifle is supposed to "exhibit a general overall external appearance to the M-16"; which is how I think the "internal" modifications listed above will probably be acceptable.

Hopefully I'm not just chasing impossible ideas here. If nothing I've mentioned above will work, I'll probably buy a service rifle instead of build. Thanks for any input.

RV purchase pros and cons

Currently renting a home in Jacksonville/Orange Park FL after selling my home in Indiana 12 months ago. ($1600/month for 4 bedroom home. got a good deal b4 prices jacked up recently)

Just tossing around thoughts on buying a used/new RV (not 5th wheel)

Cons
No room for guns
No space for garage stuff
No space for current home furniture

Pros
Freedom from Landlords/Property mgrs
Freedom to relocate

Any forums to join for more research?

Thanks,

Mike

Need some help quickly with a hunting scope choice

I am going to head out tomorrow in a attempt to pick up a new scope that wasn’t planned. This is my backup rifle and I’ve killed the scope that had been zeroed and ready to rock.
I have a few choices picked out but wanted to see if I could get my list in order or add any suggestions.

Looking for something in the 2-10/12x mag range but prefer to keep the objective in the 40mm range. $500-900ish budget 1in or 30mm is fine I have rings already for either. For this rifle I’m not that concerned about the reticle or capped vs uncapped turrets. MOA SFP is fine since max range would be 400 yards and that’s would be unusual. 6.5C so plenty flat shooting and 125-200 would be normal shots.

No China don’t care will not buy so no Athlon
Here are a few that peaked my interest on the short list.

Trijicon Huron or Accent 2-12 $500ish
These are Japanese and have a really attractive price. I’ve heard the eye relief is GTG but online it seems to be a question mark due to advertising. That’s a great price only negative on paper is it’s a bit heavy for a light weight rifle.

Leupold 2-10 VX-5 HD $899 I believe at that price the duplex reticle. I am probably the most comfortable with this one if I had to order online sight unseen.

Swarovski z3 3-10x $799 if I can find one in stock. I haven’t looked through a z3 that’s newer but their reputation seems to warrant it in the list.

????? Any others you all want to add or possibly eliminate? I am hoping to find one tomorrow so I can get it mounted and zeroed this weekend. Local purchase should not be a issue with PSA, Cabelas, Sportsman warehouse and a couple good locals around.

Is my sizing die defective or am i just dumb

Im getting ready to start loading 6.5CM on a Dillon 550C, in a single stage manner, and I have a Redding 2 Die set (not sure model). I picked up some once fired brass, and the base to datum measurement is 1.558"-1.560".. but i screwed in my sizing die almost as far as it would go until it touched the shellplate, and the base-datum measurement is still the same at around 1.560" after sizing..

Am I missing something? the die is supposed to default size to minimum sammi spec, which is 1.541" for the chamber and 1.5368" for the cartridge I'm pretty sure. Also the brass fits right into my L.E. wilson case gauge, except it just needs to be trimmed down a hair..

So If somebody could shoot me some wisdom I'd appreciate it because I don't wanna blame the equipment since I'm probably the weak link here.

Turret Press for precision reloading???

Ok so, I have looked through many threads on presses, and I found one I love (of course it s a $1500 press). The question remains, does a turret press (of the regular variety Lyman, RCBS, Redding, Lee) make as good of precision rifle ammo as a well built regular single stage ?

I'd really like to get a turret press for obvious reasons, but I worry the turret will provide enough flex to cause some issues, or is it fine? Is there one or two that are very well done, and because of that, they are solid enough to make Precision rifle ammo with?

The Forrester Co-ax is what I would get if I didn't get a turret press, and I really don't need to spend $1500 on the Area 419 zero. (If I were somehow able to find a used one, that may be an option). I am hoping to find a turret press that I can be confident in, but if it isn't out there (for a reasonable price) then so be it.

Thanks fellas

Ideas on 6.5 sighting in

I have had great luck mounting scopes on high powered rifles, finding zero with reasonable number of rounds and ethically/quickly killing game out to about 275. I kind of fell into a 6.5 prc European rifle with a >moa guarantee. Put a Leupold 3xi 6.5x20 (SFP) on it. First round at 25 high and left. Corrected for windage and lacking capacity to reduce elevation held low to find a nice 3 shot group .5 moa from the bull (just left and low). Figure I was good. Go to 100 yards and cant find paper. Return to 25 and get a good group on the bull holder 3 moa low. Move to 50 yards and the thing throws a round at the top of the paper. Depress hold to the bottom of the target paper and round hits 4.5 moa hi. Depress to bottom of backing and get to 2 moa high. Try another round an get 3 moa. All from solid bench rest, great sight picture. There is no fool like an old fool and I am feeling like one of them. I must be missing something here...

My Dog

I just had to put my Bassett Hound down.
He puked in the house, went outside and laid down. Thought he had just eaten something that did not agree with him. He had free run of 5 fenced acres.
My wife looked out and noticed he was just lying there, something did not feel right to her so she checked on him. Barely moving, breathing heavy and very lethargic.
Bundled him into the car and took him to the vet. The sack around his heart was filling with fluid. Ruptured tumor.
We had a wonderful 9 years with him and I already miss him.
Tuesday is gonna really suck when I get home and he wont be here to greet me.
