Sidearms & Scatterguns I "modernized" my lever gun...

Ok...I admit...I think the new rage of making a lever gun "tacti-cool" is..well...cool.

I had an old Marlin 336 in 30-30 that was literally collecting rust. I have not shot it in over 30 years.

Then my friend Chad of Chisel Machining started making stocks for the Marlin and Henry rifles so that sealed the deal.

Now there are many shops turning out really nice lever builds.
But I really did not want put $1500+ plus a 4-6 month wait into a rig that was just going to be for fun.

So I gathered parts and contacted my good friend Mike at The Cartridge Family to do the gunsmithing.

He shortened the barrel to 14 1/2" and then pined, welded, and blended the brake to make 16.2" barrel length.
Slicked up the action. Instalked a Ranger Point trigger and big loop lever.

The Cerakote was also done locally in Magpul OD green.

Topped it with a Leupold VX6 I had laying around.

Here is how it turned out.

Is it the same in your area?

I made an observation about a month ago, and have been paying attention since then. When an election was coming up, there would be political signs in people's yards EVERYWHERE.

For this upcoming mid term election, I'm not seeing very many at all. Maybe folks are getting to the point where they are just saying fuck it, it ain't worth voting, because there isn't anyone worth voting FOR.

Are you noticing the same thing where you live?

Spit-roasting a pig, island-style.

Daughter came back from a few months in Hawaii (68W/Combat Medic), and we've decided to do an island Thanksgiving. I'm going to spit-roast a succulent pig.

Kind of random question to post here, and I've already done a ton of research, plus spoken to the butchers that could source the pig. Just wondered if anyone here has done this and had any tips, specifically around seasoning the cavity and skin, and lbs/person for the pig itself.

TAC OPS / KMW Collaboration

Just a heads-up gentleman after several in-depth conversations with Terry Cross of KMW we are seriously considering doing a collaboration of a rifle project together. With our combined expert experience of over 75 years of building thousands of platforms we are thinking of doing a Tac Ops / KMW rifle and doing a run of 10 to 20 platforms. After careful consideration with our combined experience, we are thinking of guaranteeing the platforms to shoot 1/8 MOA with factory ammo. I will be doing some of the work here and Terry will be stepping inn and deploying his expertise as well. If we move forward with this project, they will be built based off of Terry’s stock design. The rifles will have the traditional Tac Ops Green & Black color pattern with our textured look / feel. We are still discussing several factors of the possible build and the name we came up with would be KM-OPS 51.

If we decide to move forward, we will launch a new thread and state all the specs of the build…

Thank you for your time

Mike R.

M24 Cheek Weld

Guys that have used/trained with/own an M24 rifle, are you able to get a comfortable cheek weld with the standard stock and low rings or are do you find that you have to add a cheek pad of some kind?

Looking to build on an HS stock and they offer the standard stock and one with an adjustable cheekpiece but I would prefer to keep it looking as close to original as possible.

9000 lbs of weed gets a citation and released.

I remember when that much weed would have gotten you locked up and lost for 30 years. Hell, I remember a black guy in Texas who got 50 years for a couple joints. I bet the driver is safely back in Mexico by now.

Study: Americans Families $6K Poorer Thanks to Joe Biden’s Inflation, Up from $4.2K

American families have lost $6,000 in annual wages thanks to President Joe Biden’s soaring inflation, a Heritage Foundation study revealed over the weekend.

The loss in wages represents a $1,800 increase from September, when American families had lost $4,200 in annual wages under Biden.

“People are just absolutely being crushed,” Heritage fellow E.J. Antoni told Fox Business. “It’s not the price of caviar and yachts that are driving these numbers. It’s necessities, it’s staples. It’s things like eggs, milk, flour, soup. These are things that are up 20 or 30 percent year-over-year.”

“All of those additional costs are now creeping into the rest of the economy, essentially,” Antoni added. “I really don’t see much good news any anywhere I look, unfortunately.”

Inflation is at record highs despite Biden’s attempt to reduce inflation through the so-called “Inflation Reduction Act,” which some experts say was not intended to reduce soaring costs. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in September rose 8.2 percent compared to a year earlier. Compared to a month ago, prices were up 0.4 percent, twice what forecasters had expected.
“Inflation was 1.4% when Biden took office — it was essentially non-existent,” Antoni continued. “And somehow, in just 18 months, he ran it up to over 9%. Again, it really is like these people live in a fantasy world. It’s mind-boggling.”
The loss in real wages comes as Democrats are trying to retain control of the Senate with just 22 days until election day. Democrats must make the case why they should remain in power.
“If Republicans win, inflation’s going to get worse. It’s that simple,” Biden claimed in Los Angeles on Thursday about the number one issue in every Senate battleground state. (SIMPLE THINGS FOR SIMPLE MINDS!!)
According to recent polling, 67 percent of voters in Senate battleground states are dissatisfied with the direction of the nation after nearly two years of Democrats controlling the administrative state, legislative branch, and executive branch of the federal government. Only an average of 23 percent of voters in Senate swing states say the nation is headed in the correct direction.
The polling indicates the midterm election could be a referendum on Democrats and their massive spending and war on American energy. Both issues have fueled soaring costs.
A recent poll found 66 percent of independents believe Biden has “somewhat” or “strongly” mismanaged the economy. Only 27 percent of independents approve of Biden’s management.

Vortex Razor HDII issues

Pretty new at this but bought a rifle for long distance shooting this spring. Have had a heck of a time with it trying to sight in. Go through boxes of ammo every time I go to range just to get it zeroed in at 100 Meters. Been suspicious since I bought it that zero is moving around. Finally had an incident today that makes me suspicious of the scope being a dud.

Took a shot at a moose after zeroing in rifle last week with new MDT rings. Didn't appear to even come close to hitting it. Went to end of a road and checked zero at 100 meters shooting at pop cans and I had to adjust up 22.4 mil radians! Rings didn't move since zeroing last week, I am baffled and lost confidence in my equipment.

What would cause this? Has this even ever happened on a level this severe to anyone else? I'm debating sending the scope back to Vortex to be looked at. I am assuming to be out by this much by the rail, the rings or the scope moving, you would see some very obvious visual signs. There is nothing to indicate that any of these are moving around. Any suggestions because I am stumped on this one, and rifle has been very accurate once zeroed in.

For reference, It is a Tikka T3X Tac A-1 rifle with factory 0 moa rail. MDT rings and the Vortex Razor HD Gen 2 scope. Ammo I have shot through it has been quite varied as it has been difficult to find, but generally I have been shooting 140-147 grain Nosler, Hornady, or Barnes. Regardless of powder differences and BC of the ammo used, 22.4 mills out should never be a possibility at 100 meters, I was thinking more along the lines of maybe 0.5 mills out.

New PVA Cleaning Accessories: The Muzzle Jimmy and Jimmy Stick

For those enjoying our barrels, here's a new product that ought to make your life easier for cleaning them. This product was inspired by a number of barrels we've seen (ours and others) that were damaged severely during cleaning. Especially as more of us use things like H4350, Varget, and Staball where a carbon ring is almost assured if you're not spot-on with the cleaning cycle.

It does work with other barrels, we just recommend you use ours... because they're ours. ;)

Anyway: Here's the Muzzle Jimmy with the add-on "Jimmy Stick"

Yes, I've been told there's a joke in the name somewhere. The goal is for folks to be able to clean barrels more easily and let the cleaning agents do the hard work. This means fewer damaged crowns and gouged throats from over-zealous scrubbing on stubborn carbon and copper fouling.

They're brightly color anodized and hopefully nobody will send a bullet downrange with the Jimmy still over the muzzle. However, if they do, the precautions to make the cap out of low strength aluminum is meant to mitigate the damage caused by the accident.

And a quick clip on why the Jimmy Stick is so useful...

The Final Countdown... Making the F14 Tomcat a star long before Tom Cruise

Ok... first... going to say I love this movie. It's sort of a cult classic. Campy... over-acted. Time Travel. Whatever. I still love this movie!

It had military history, fake Zero's (AT-6 Texans) and Tomcats, mixing it up in a chance to revise Pearl Harbor. Even some star actors. And a collie.

Friend just sent me this really cool story from one of the Tomcat pilots who kept notes on the filming and how they did the aviation scenes. No CGI... not even any video cameras for instant looks.

Totally cool article on a movie that, if it's on TV... always gets the nod. Just for the sheer "Hoo Rah" of the air combat scenes.

Ok... I'll go back to my geek sci-fi movies now... Carry on.

Bloomberg: Odds of A Recession Hit 100% in ‘Blow to Biden’

The U.S. economy is effectively certain to enter a recession in the next 12 months, according to model projections from Bloomberg Economics.

Bloomberg News described this as “a blow to President Joe Biden’s economic messaging ahead of the November elections.”

The probability models maintained by Bloomberg economists Anna Wong and Eliza Winger had earlier shown just a 65 percent chance of a recession over the coming 12 months.

A separate Bloomberg survey of 42 economists predicts the probability of a recession over the next 12 months rose to 60 percent recently, up from 50 percent a month earlier.

The odds of entering a recession even sooner are also up, according to the model. In the 11-month window, the probability is 73 percent, up from 30 percent. In the 10-month window, the probability rose to 25 percent from zero.

The Bloomberg Economics model uses 13 macroeconomic and financial indicators to predict the chance of a downturn at horizons of one month to two years.

The Bloomberg Economics model uses 13 macroeconomic and financial indicators to predict the chance of a downturn at horizons of one month to two years. The odds of downturn increased in every time frame, Bloomberg reported.

Tikka Experts-Opinion Needed

I'm looking at getting another 270win rifle. I don't know why, but I've got the need (okay, maybe it's just a want). I'm pretty sure I want a Tikka but I'm not sure if it will be a Lite or a Hunter. Since I know nothing about the Tikka brand other than it seems to be well respected on the Hide, I thought I'd get some other opinions on the matter. I've got 2 other 270 rifles, a Browning A Bolt and a cheap Thompson Venture.

I'll probably this rifle more sighting in the scope than I will in the woods, but it's something I want, so I'm going to get it.

I'm wondering what's the difference in these 2 models? Do you have any experience with either or both? Opinions on which I should purchase for an older fat man who is out of shape and has more health issues than I care to admit.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Looking at a New 700 // Newbie

Good Morning, and in case I don't see you... good afternoon, good evening, and good night...

Newbie to the Precision World... Always wanted to Join... I don't know what the etiquette is on this Forum.. so forgive me If I miss any lines.. Promise to do better.

I'm in the market for a Precision Bolt Action.. and going through a few threads.. I've narrowed it down to a starting rifle... Remington 700. Of course, I'm can be persuaded :D

Goal is to be able to hit a target at 500-750 yards... Good looking gun, with eventually a suppressor. I'm purely a hobbyist. No plans on hunting. I like my lamb shanks already grilled when I order them.

Saw this one on gunbroker...

Remington 700 Magpul Rifle 308 - Win 22" Hb Blk Mtte Magpul Stk

I like the fact that it holds 5 rounds... has a threaded barrel when I eventually get a stamp... love the black.

Thinking total $2000-$2500 Rifle with Suppressor and Scope... but that would be done in phases...$$$

Would any of you experts have better suggestions? or any input for this Newbie would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Ji
