Collecting guns vs collecting what you need

I know a lot of people love collecting guns, most they rarely use.. I do the same, sometime.

But with recent years and the events that have unfolded.. I find myself questioning some of my weapons. I've got a few rifles, mainly m1a's that I think about selling to help fund another AR, mags, ammo, plate carrier, etc etc...

Getting rid of the things that just sit in the safe and look pretty for gear that will/could come in handy with the way the world is heading.

Anyone else selling off any safe queens to get more practical gear/training?

Reloading Equipment Hornady GT brass

Have some brass I’m not using anymore that I figure someone else can take advantage of.

Hornady 6GT brass. I have 237 pieces that are dirty, and 119 clean pieces. Total of 356. Has 4-5 firings on it but I ran it slow at 2850 so all the primer pockets are still good to go. When I switched barrels I also bought into some alpha brass to run with it, otherwise I would have kept running this. Asking $.50 per piece or $150 if you want the whole thing

So I heard you guys like night vision and machine guns

Never looked through current gen night vision and want to try? Ever shot a carbine with a full power laser in the dark? Have an itch to shoot vehicle mounted belt feds and fully automatic sub-machine guns but don't want to be stuck shooting indoors at 20 yards like every other place? Want to spend the night on a 550 acre training facility with a complete FOB, military vehicles and multiple shooting areas that have you using your helmet mounted night vision to shoot inside of vehicles, maneuvering through shoot houses or throwing a grenade at a Ford F250? Have night vision but are a bit light in the 'blowing shit up' category?

Well, I got you covered fam....

First Match Checklist? Pikes Peak Precision

Signed up for my first match next weekend with Pikes Peak Precision but am looking into all the gear I should be bringing. Here is what I've got to bring so far
- Rifle, bipod, 10rnd magazine
- Front bag
- Rear Bag
- Backpack
- Ammo carrier
- Tool kit
- Eye and Ear protection

Is there anything else that I should be looking at bringing or stuff that would be nice to have?

Accessories Various Men's Combat Boots - Used - Cheap

I narrowed down the combat boots to a style and size that fit me best so these are a variety of other ones I tried and wore during various training, yard work, matches, etc. I have way too many pairs in my house and my wife can't stand it so I am selling the ones I don't wear anymore for cheap. Buy them for a gift, for yourself, for yard work, I don't care!

Left to Right:

- McRae Footwear Men's 11 regular. Vibram sole, Very little use - $50 shipped
- Marine Danners Men's 11 regular w/ the Marine logo. Vibram sole, mild use - $45 shipped
- Tactical Research 9.5W (fits like 10.5 that I normally wear). Very small blem in a stitch that I threw some glue on to hold in place. Hardly noticeable - $40 shipped
- Viktos 10.5 regular. These are super lightweight and honestly mostly wore these for yard work and not much training. Heel was peeling a bit so I glued it. Solid, just not beautiful - $35 shipped

Option: buy all 4 pairs for $150 shipped or trade me for a decent TT or Timney trigger for a R700 RH.

Sidearms & Scatterguns Red Dot Questions

All,

Two questions:

1. I am in the process of transitioning (no jokes) and what I've been doing for drills so far is one shot from the low ready from 20 yards. I've set a 1.5 second par time. I've got about 150 rounds down the pipe of my new PC M and P this way. What other drills are you all using for the first 500, and then the first 1,000 rounds to cement proper performance?

2. The red dot that came with the pistol is a crimson trace unit that says made in China on it. I am going to change that to either the RMR or the other offering from Trijicon. This pistol will eventually serve in a duty role. Is one better than the other? Oh yeah, I've read most of the thoughts on this forum on the subject and am selecting the 6 moa dot option however I go. Looked thru the RMR yesterday on a friend's Glock and liked it.

Thanks in advance and God bless America

Caliber of the month club...

...or what can the .308 do to keep pace with the 6.5 creedmoor ad nausea

If I may make an open ended suggestion.

There has been a very long winded debate about the various 6.5 caliber offerings vs the .308/7.62 NATO/30 Cal as of late.

Some of the more ridiculous comments have included the fact (yes, fact) that the 6.5 Creedmoor retains enough velocity at extreme range to still be supersonic to nearly 1,400 yards while the .308 is passing through the transonic barrier somewhere between 900 and 1,000 yards.

Add to this the complaint that the 6.5 terminal ballistics are abysmal with all but what I would call boutique projectiles and ineffective on larger game such as elk. This was stated without any discussion about range of engagement .

Now lump this all into one post. I wish I could find that rant again but I have such a convoluted and lengthy browsing history across many machines that I , squirrel ! ………………..

FFS

I do not know of any projectile capable of even moderate performance over a span of nearly 2,000 feet per second. On the high side they blow up on contact and on the low side they pass through without expansion. It’s physics FFS.

Part of the equation is the reduced cross sectional area of the 6.5 plus its greater length to diameter ratio for the same given weight. Sectional density is easily confused with the length to diameter ratio as the former is more closely related to terminal ballistics and the later more closely associated with external ballistics.

Since this is the comparison between the two calibers it would seem that for the .308 to keep pace with the 6.5 it would need to be longer. This becomes a mass equation. The length can’t be added without making the bullet heavier. The answer is to eliminate the lead and create a bullet that is longer by the addition of copper to it’s length to replace the mass of the lead. Seems easy now doesn’t it? Not so fast. First there is barrel wear which is actually a fairly simple problem in metallurgy. Guilding and or bearing metal alloys are well known in industry and this seems to be the only straight forward part of the thought. Next is stability of the bullet which is also fairly well understood. Note here that most BTHP (actually open tip rather than hollow point) target bullets are mostly void (air) behind the ogive with most of the mass at the base. So now we’re at a longer bullet with more sectional density and a better ballistic coefficient because of it’s length. So far so good. Now on to terminal ballistics. Prior to closing the tip of the bullet score the inside of the forward cavity. This will of course take large sample size of experimentation. Then anneal the forward section of the bullet to make it malleable and promote expansion without disintegration at higher velocities while predictably expanding at lower velocities.

What to do with the extra length of the bullet? At some point you run out of magazine length and are single loading. This is fine for the paper puncher but not so much for the hunter or other shooter. So the bullet gets seated deeper in the case. In my case it’s fortunate that I kept all my reloading and range information for decades past. I had more than a few loads that were not full capacity with 147gr or 168gr for that matter that were bypassed possibly because they did not fill the case leading to inconsistent pressures and velocity. Now not all of these loads will show promise either because of powder availability or pressures or other variables but I’m sure there is a gem or three in there somewhere.

In the end it’s a worthy thought experiment at the very least. It’s environmentally friendly by eliminating the lead. The bullets can be made with not much more than a lathe and an arbor press from 5/16″ and 3/8″ copper bar stock with minimal waste. Those in the manufacturing industry can see the possibilities of coining, drawing, trimming, reaming, scoring, forming, sizing and annealing, all on a modified punch press and draw line.

All this to keep up with the latest caliber of the month club.On the surface it seems a bit silly to gain another few hundred yards of supersonic velocity out of the .308. However the capability of making your own high performance projectiles has some appeal. Getting rid of the lead is not only environmentally sound but it’s also one less raw material to source.

This is only somewhat more than a thought experiment at this point. I will gladly accept any and all suggestions.

YMMV

Kudos if you read it.

Joe Biden Blames Aides for 40-Year-High Inflation

PHILADELPHIA, PA - JULY 27: on the third day of the Democratic National Convention at the Wells Fargo Center, July 27, 2016 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton received the number of votes needed to secure the party's nomination. An estimated 50,000 people are expected in Philadelphia, including …

President Joe Biden reportedly blamed his staff for 40-year-high inflation, the Washington Post reported Wednesday.
As Bidenflation will cost American households on average an extra $5,200 in 2022, or $433 per month, according to Bloomberg, Biden has reportedly become unhappy rising prices are hurting his political position.
Instead of taking responsibility for the price hikes, Biden has reportedly shifted the blame to aides for not confronting the spike in costs partly generated by his own fiscal and energy policies.
“Biden has privately grumbled to top White House officials over the administration’s handling of inflation, expressing frustration over the past several months that aides were not doing enough to confront the problem directly,” the Post reported.
This week, instead of altering fiscal and energy policies, the White House decided to mount a public relations blitz to bunt inflation’s political damage on the Democrat Party.

You DO believe FJB... don't you?

Blown primers with min starting load

I apologize in advance for the lengthy post but I’m trying to include as much info as possible.

I’m pretty new to reloading and only load for 1 round, 6 Creedmoor. I recently switched powders from N555 to H4350. I loaded some middle of the road charges from Hornady’s manual and had some minor pressure issues, slightly flattened primers and a bit of cratering. The load was faster than I’m trying to run so I pulled the remaining rounds apart to start over. I loaded a new batch starting at 36.0 grains increasing in .2 grain increments to 37.8 which is at or just slightly above the minimum recommended starting load from three manuals, Hornady, Nosler, and Lyman and well below max. I shot the first five rounds and had an extreme spread of over 100 fps. Some of the rounds chronographed where I was expecting them to at 2940 fps but a couple were much higher. I shot a couple of the other charges with similar erratic results then had a blown primer with a 36.4 grains. It was very obviously way over pressured and the case was stuck in the bolt face. Thinking it was an anomaly I shot a few more rounds than had another blown primer/stuck case. Obviously, I stopped at this point. I thought perhaps I’d loaded the bullets too long and was touching the lands so I duplicated the CBTO measurement of some factory Berger ammo which uses the same case and bullet I’m loading. I fired one round at 36.0 and had a blown primer. I’m at a loss for what is causing this and it’s quite disconcerting as a new reloader. I’ve pulled several of the remaining rounds apart to measure the powder charge and all were where they should be. All rounds were loaded using an Autotrickler with FX120-i. The brass is Lapua on its 5th firing and is sized in a Redding full length bushing die. I’ve never trimmed them, but I measured and all case length is between 1.905 and 1.915 which is within SAAMI tolerances. I’d planned on starting over with new brass as that’s the only variable left I can think of but I need to make sure I’m not missing something else. The rifle is an MPA PMR Pro, the bolt closes on a go gauge and doesn’t close on a no-go headspace gauge and it shoots factory ammo just fine. I’m shooting Berger 109 Hybrid Target bullets and using CCI 450 primers. I’m at a loss as I’ve followed the manuals religiously and never had my safety concerns until now. Thanks for reading and I appreciate any advice.

Poll: One-Third of Americans Making $250K ‘Live Paycheck-to-Paycheck’

More than 33 percent of Americans who earn $250,000 a year report living paycheck to paycheck, “underscoring how inflation is taking a bigger bite out of Americans’ budgets at all ends of the pay spectrum,” Bloomberg reported on Wednesday.

Industry publication Pymnts.com and LendingClub Corp. conducted a survey from April 6-13 with about 4,000 US consumers, finding that roughly 36 percent of households bringing in $250,000-plus annually spend most of their income on household expenses.

“It’s particularly true among millennials, who are now in their mid-20s to early 40s: More than half of top earners in that generation report having little left at the end of the month,” according to the report.

The survey revealed that 55.4 percent of Millennials who earn $250,000-plus a year reported living paycheck to paycheck compared to 21.8 percent of Boomer generation respondents in the same earnings category.

The survey did distinguish high earners who can pay their bills with relative ease compared to those who struggled to cover household expenses in April, which is roughly one in ten. The report noted:

Housing expenses, which typically take up large chunks of the budgets of wealthier people, have skyrocketed during the pandemic. For example in Orange County, California, a top-tier home cost $1.7 million in April, up from $1.2 million in February 2020, based on Zillow Group Inc. data. A mortgage on that house, assuming a 20 percent down payment, would cost about $100,000 per year. That’s 40 percent of a $250,000 annual pre-tax income.
Approximately 61 percent of consumers overall reported living paycheck to paycheck in April, which is a nine percentage-point increase from last year. The results come as U.S. food inflation continues to soar past a 41-year high and gas prices surpass $5 in many parts of the country.

The survey found that many higher income households are using credit cards to “finance their lifestyles,” but they are also able to completely pay off the balance.

“US consumer borrowing soared in March by the most on record as credit-card balances ballooned and non-revolving credit jumped, highlighting the combined impact of solid spending and rising prices,” the report states.

Hilarious!!!!!
