Trump is back…the “Now What” thread

Trump likes the word "Tariff", and maybe he shouldn't. What the administration should be saying is "cost of importing American goods".

No one should be fooled by the miriad of technical terms denoting different taxing schemes unless they are paid in earwax or pooka beads. When there are actual American dollars changing hands it is all a scam.

Our government scams us as well by naming the bazillion different taxes we pay all different names when any idiot knows that there is no difference between one dollar and the next. It is all completely fungible and you are getting lost in the weeds with all these distinctions without a difference in COST.

Army M24 Build Thread

Those things SUCKED when new... horrible piece of kit. Didn't work as a day or night optic worth a crap.
In that era, only other issued NVD was the SIMRAD KN203 (PVS-9). KAC clip-ons were almost a decade later. The -10's get a lot of hate, but the design was radical af when compared to PVS-4/7 tech. This was when Tennebrex filters & laser interference filters LIF were cutting edge, top-secret sauce. Its MX10130 image tube was the original Gen3 white phosphor intensifier, which really hasnt been surpassed until thermal sights evolved. The KAC UNS were almost a step backwards.

Doesn't that assume that they exist in the first place?

Did you read Mr. BR's post # 2248?
Deceptive, because many or even most countries, like Australia, have zero "tariffs". Yet they have an across the board import tax of 10%, and a customs duty of 5% outside of the commonwealth. This is leftist, word game BS. A rose by any other name.

Saying Australia has zero tariffs is a lie when you understand that calling taxes different names does not change the actual "cost" to the importer.

Saying that Trump's policies are anti-free trade on the right is coming from anti-Trumpers, period.

There is a .gov website and several private ones that show the cost of exporting American goods into every country on earth. It's not that this information is secret, it's that people who aren't in export are fucking ignorant.

@Mr.BR does have a point about not wanting to make all the low cost, low end products out of SE Asia and China. Many of those are super-poluters as well, which we also don't want.

Tariffs and ammo prices?

It is unlikely that the overhead costs for domestic manufacturing will not rise. Even if by some miracle they can get all the raw materials and components at the same cost, they will not be able to increase production without investing. Deciding to make a big investment on the assumption that your sell price will remain high is a risk.

Who wants to get half way into building the new factory to find out the tariff is now reduced or gone.

It may take years to build manufacturing capacity. This not a simple problem with sound bite solutions.
We already have a lot of capacity though. It isn’t like Federal, Winchester, Hornady, etc. have to re-invent the wheel, break ground on virgin property, and start from scratch.

Same with other industries. A lot of them have plants on real estate with a lot of spare room for expansion. If they weren’t already expanding based on betting on the home team, they’re wrong.

People need to permanently shut off the anti-American media full of do-nothing naysayers, reach down into their core, and figure out what it means to be American again.

Secret Service Eyes New 6.5mm Semi-Automatic Sniper Rifle (RFI)

They released an RFI to ensure that they would get a good number of responses from a wide array of potential suppliers.
HERE
It's pretty wide open, and I would expect the major players along with a few wild-cards to respond to the RFI and submit for the potential RFP when/if it releases.
It will be interesting to see what they finally refine the specs down to when they move from an RFI to an RFP.
They certainly boxed in the RFP specs for their primary sniper rifles so that nobody could quote but A.I.
Will be interesting to see if they do similar with this if it goes forward at all.

The claim was that the EU has a 39% tariff on imports from the USA. It's not true, and the real formula has now been revealed, which has nothing to do with an EU tariff, as claimed.

But everybody is still trying to support the lie.

I am not setting tariffs, so I am not giving any consideration to anything. I am just listening, and getting offended when I am lied to by government officials, even, or maybe especially, when it is one for whom I voted. Defend his lies with more lies if you want, but nothing you wrote is what was presented when he announced the tariff.
If you spend any time studying Trump’s business negotiating history, he comes in from a position of strength, rattles the table, and observes who the sharks are, and who the weaklings are.

The percentages don’t matter. They are all designed for shock value. He actually held back on what he could have done. It isn’t about the numbers, but letting the world know there’s a new US in town, and we’re done screwing over US people for the benefit of other nations, with no returns.
