Interesting read

"His research found that every fallen empire shared the same fatal traits, including top-heavy regimes dominated by elites, fueled by inequality and held together by violence."

He referred to these societies as 'Goliaths,' vast, brittle power structures built on hoarded grain, monopolized weapons and populations trapped in place with nowhere to run.

'History is best told as a story of organized crime,' Kemp said. 'It is one group creating a monopoly on resources through the use of violence over a certain territory and population.'

DI Precision (about post)

I wanted to take a minute to explain who we are, our focus, and our goals. I am not a gunsmith or a machinist. I am a shooter (and former hot rodder), and everything I do and think revolves around being behind the rifle. When I started shooting PRS rimfire in 2017, I had no idea what I was doing other than knowing I loved to shoot. Being competitive, I thought it could be fun. My first rifle was a CZ455, but I was somewhat disappointed with its performance. So, I ordered a custom CZ455, and again, I was let down by its accuracy. (Side note: I learned how to reload for precision from David Tubb over text, and I got spoiled on what true precision and accuracy meant.)

When Vudoo came out, my first thought was that they were crazy—no one would spend that kind of money on a rimfire. But shortly after, a guy showed up with a Vudoo and promptly outshot us all. On the way home, I reached out to Vudoo to order a barreled action. After some discussion, I asked if they’d make me a deal on two. Cole countered with, “Buy three, and I’ll set you up as a dealer.” “Deal!” I said, and that’s how this all started.

After supplying most of the shooters at TX Precision Matches in Navasota, we quickly encountered the feeding issues that Vudoo became known for. Looking back, we now know it wasn’t the rifle but how we were using them. We added weight and made magazine blockers long before anything was commercially available. One day after a match, as we discussed our problems, I thought, “What if we had a longer, heavier barrel?” I sent a text to Paul from Mullerworks, and he sent down a 1.250, 16-twist blank. The balance problems were solved, and we didn’t lose the accuracy we were getting from the shorter barrels.

Fast forward, and I thought I could make a business out of this. The question was never whether we could chamber and build an accurate rifle, but whether we could do it consistently, over and over, in a semi-production format. That sent me shopping for CNC machines. After many calls to shops across the country, I ended up with a Doosan 2100 LSYB turning center. (Remember, I’m not a machinist, so I was completely lost, but I knew I didn’t want to handle the barrel twice—once to tenon/chamber and again to cut the slots on a mill.) A steep learning curve followed. I made a custom jig to hold the barrel in the hydraulic jaws, and off to the races we went.

Below are a few samples of the results we’ve achieved over the last couple of years, sending in a few rifles at a time to see where we stood. I’ve also included some results from customers who sent theirs in. My point is this: I want you all to understand that this is a lifestyle choice I made to build and provide the best product I can, one I feel good about selling. We test each rifle for accuracy at 50 and 200 yards. If I’m not satisfied, it doesn’t ship until I’m confident it will meet the customer’s expectations.

RRS TFCT 14L w Anvil 30 too heavy for backpack backcountry hunting?

Rugged remote Idaho spring bear hunt (flying into the Frank Church), we'll be trying to avoid any unnecessary weight. Trying to decide whether to take a bipod or a tripod, leaning towards the latter. My hunting buddy says re: RRS "no way man! Those things are too damn heavy!" He's looking at the AZIAK Ridgeline. I'm thinking that thing is too flimsy, too short, and to made in China-ey, but at 1.5# it's a full 2# lighter than the RRS 14L

Has anybody carried a 14L straight up a hill for several miles and several thousands of feet and regretted it or not?

What's the best compromise of weight, stability, and height for this application?

Share this with your daughters, so they can be prepared.

... or share with your wife after you prepare for your end.

Advice for Ladies

If you want someone willing to make a fool of himself simply over the joy of seeing you … buy a dog.

If you want someone who will eat whatever you put in front of him and never say it’s not quite as good as his mother made it, … buy a dog.

If you want someone always willing to go out, at any hour, for as long and wherever you want … buy a dog.

If you want someone to scare away burglars without a lethal weapon that terrifies you and endangers the lives of your family and all the neighbors … buy a dog.

If you want someone who is content to get up on your bed just to warm your feet and whom you can push off it he snores … buy a dog.

If you want someone who will never touch the remote, doesn’t care about football, and can sit next to you and watch a romantic movie … buy a dog.

If you want someone who never criticizes what you do, doesn’t care if you are pretty or ugly, fat or thin, who acts as if every word you say is especially worthy of listening to, and loves you unconditionally, perpetually … buy a dog.

But on the other hand,

If you want someone who will never come when you call,
Ignores you totally when you come home,
Leaves hair all over the place,
Walks all over you,
Runs around all night,
Only comes home to eat and sleep,
And acts as if your entire existence is solely to ensure his happiness,

Then my friend,

Buy a cat.

Any Info on Guide TB Series QD Mounts?

Can anyone share their personal experience or point me towards and posts/videos going over the Guide 1913 QD mount, specifically for the TB630 (non-LRF)/TB1250? There's a few posts I've seen around on different forums saying the mount isn't good, but not anything specific as to why.

For context on why the TB630: Great price, the dual 18650 batteries, and the high-res AMOLED screen would make a great pairing as a clip-on for my NX8 2.5-20x50 for ranges max out to 500m. I understand the TB650LRF has the 4x bolted in 1913 mount, but I don't really need a LRF and you lose battery life going from 2x to 1x18650 on the LRF model.

Thanks all!

My employer mandated the vaccine. Anyone else?

So my employer went full retard and is mandating the vaccine for the small amount of us actually working in the building. The department I am in has a total of 12 people and we are all spread out now. 99% of the desks are empty as most everyone is working from home. A few of us simply can't due to the type of work. The group here has been working since the start of this thing last year. We have mask mandates, partitions, tons of testing and a few cases. They recently opened our local repair counter and require customers to wear masks, but are forcing us to get the vaccine (both doses) by 9/20/21. The email came out yesterday. They gave us a chance for exemptions based on religion or medical. I was curious if anyone else here has had to deal with this and what you might have done.

I am not anti vaccine, but I am not comfortable with this one. I am going to claim religious exemption and I think they cannot ask for any other details. I'm not sure what the legal line is here. I know a private business can mandate, but as far as my individual rights should I claim religious exemption.

Thoughts on the Desert Tech Covert?

For those that have owned one what are your thoughts? I’ve always had a want for a DT and selling a few items currently to fund one if I decide it’s for me

Trying to decide between a DT or TBAC Ultra 338 GEN 2 with the current wait times being so low for suppressors

I already have several AI’s and cans including TBAC ultra 9. Trying to decide what would be the best option to add to my collection.

A DT Covert or ultimate suppression.

6mm vs 6.5mm, not quite beating a dead horse.

I have a Tikka chambered in 308 and the barrel is starting to finally burn out. I am planning on doing a WTO switchlug and getting two barrels spun up. One will be the ol’ NATO potato and there is no way talking me out of that. The second barrel I am going back and forth on 6mm and 6.5mm. It’s mostly between 6gt and 260rem. Open to other suggestions but I’d like to mostly keep it between these two cartridges.

I understand the general advantages to each but looking at how significant those advantages. Both 308 and 6/6.5 barrels will be used in field style matches and local prs matches as well as just shooting for fun. Ranges routinely run out to 1400.

6gt; lighter recoil and the benefit of using Varget with both itself and 308. That is very convenient to only need one powder for both barrels.

260; slightly better wind although very slight from what I see comparing data. The 6.5 high BC bullets do their thing but the higher speeds of 6mm seem to help close that gap. Better splash/strike for making corrections.

So the question for those who have experience with both; Is the recoil reduction that great between the two in a 17ish-19ish lb gun with a suppressor/brake hybrid? And, is the difference in splash enough to make a big enough difference?

I’m sure I’d be fine and adjust to either cartridge but since I’m starting fresh (barrel, bullets, brass, dies) I might as well go with the better option, if any.

Is a 1 in 7 twist too fast for a 7mm prc

1 in 7 for a 7mm prc?

  • Spin away! (yes)

    Votes: 7 77.8%
  • The center will not hold! (no)

    Votes: 2 22.2%

Thinking about spinning up a 7mm prc barrel for long range target shooting in the 22-26 inch range. Will at least start by using factory ammo in the 170-180 grain range. PVA is out of 1 in 8 barrels currently and I am wondering is a 1 in 7 would be too fast. According to the berger calculator it is good to go, but some other calculators say it will be over-stabalized. Of course, I don't think Bryan Litz believes in over-stabalization, so who am I to question it?

That said, what do you all think?

Gunsmithing Problems dealing with Curtis Customs?

Has anybody else had problems dealing with Curtis customs. I placed an order with Chase Curtis over the phone for x lite rifle paid in full was told it was a 6 week lead time and that’s also what his website claims it’s now going on 18 weeks and he hasn’t respond to my phone call or emails now. It seems like he’s lying to me saying it’s shipping for the last few weeks. I drew an Idaho sheep tag this year that starts Aug. 30 and I sold my other custom hunting setup after I placed my order with him on feb. 21 thinking I’d have it in a reasonable time. Kinda screwing me over for getting the shooting in I wanted to and at this point I don’t know if I’ll even get it before the season starts. From what I’m reading more online this might be kinda typical for him?

.284 Winchester

My son and I ended up trading for a semi custom Savage 110 action paired up with a Criterion 28” heavy barrel chambered in .284 winchester. It is in a Yankee Hill chassis with a ruger precision stock. Had a Riton 4-28x56 conquer 5 on it as well. The previous owner had a few loads put together so we could try it out and we did this weekend. Fun rifle to shoot. Took all of 6 rounds to zero and shooting 3/4” 100 yards groups. He did include about 80 pieces of brass and 500 180 grain nosler projectiles so we are trying to decide if we should get into reloading or if we should just rechamber this barrel to a different 7mm (magnum) or rebarrel all together. Since this particular cartirdge seems popular amongst the F class crowd, I thought I would post this and see what others might think or suggest some load work up. Thanks
