Maggie’s The Woodchuck and Firewood Hoarders Thread

It seems as though at least a few of us share a second addiction of chainsaws, log splitters (thanks to you wonderfully generous deplorables), firewood hoarding and stacking, and in general just making trees our bitches.

tnichols and I are both on at least one other forum specific to this field, but like us with precision rifles, the guys over there are maniacs for this shit. You can't ask a simple chainsaw question without the general consensus instantly being that you have to have a custom-built pro saw ( and many of them) for every application. I figured there might be some fun in those of us who don't make a daily living at it (with the possible exception of oneshot86 earning his Natty Light money) just sharing some knowledge and pictures of our setups.

I'm also WAY overdue in following up on Splitzilla's status, so this is as good a place as any.

I know we've got pics related to this spread all over "what's my view" and a few other threads, but feel free to duplicate / consolidate them here as you see fit.

So come on 1J04 , MtnCreek MontanaMarine , vh20 , sirhrmechanic, Tucker301 , and all the folks I've seen post up homestead pics, but apologetically can't remember all the user names. Show Off Your Wood!!!!

AR Tuning question

I have a BCM 14.5 rifle with stock bcm buffer system. I shot out the stock barrel, rebarreled with Gieselle 14.5 chf. Superlative adjustable gas. Stock bolt. I ran it in a class for 1500 rounds. No problems. I put on an sjc titan brake. The rifle runs but will not lock back on the last round. Even with full gas. When you hold bolt stop down on last round, it locks back on the carrier not bolt face. I put in a jp scs with stock spring out of another rifle and it works with full gas and locks back, but move that gas 1 click and doesn’t lock back.

What do I need to change on this? Lighter spring? Carrier? Buffer weight? Thanks!

SOLD 25 Creed Barrel

I have an Unfired 25 Creed barrel chambered by RIP precision. It’s a 27-28 inch CRB 1.25 straight 1-7.5 .175 freebore and threaded 5/8x24. Fitted for an impact action

I have another one of these I just finished up shooting I absolutely loved the first one I’m just going a different direction and looking to offload this one. 900

FN SPR A5M XP?

Went to a few shops local to work hunting down a G/elE prefix 700 and ran across a dusty/dirty FN SPR (with a pos bushnell 22 scope on it) in a rack.

Wanting 2500 said it was brand new/still had the box. Bore looked new, just finger fucked a lot over the years.

I’m tempted to go grab it, 2500 seems steep. After my discussion about a 700p with a with an vx3 with premier reticle my odds aren’t good of getting more than 50.00 off. 2500 too much?

Website issues question

Is there a setting that I might change, to change up how difficult this site is to sign in to? My two examples are, that I cant get in on aicraft wifi because of some weird security issue, and, whenever I sign in from another computer, there's always some odd " Ut ohhhhh, you signed in from another ip address! Can you confirm it's you?"
Can I change some setting to avoid these things that I have never seen before on any other website?

Nyent 11 whyit you botherin me

So ran some errands after dinner last night. Blue button down for Graduation Party, 511 and check . Top off gas in truck. Check . Stop for a 12 pack . Holy Mother a Homeless Crackhead ax juggling wackadoo .
I pull into the parking lot and Slotard the bicycle ridin clown is weaving in and out of lot traffic whilst flipping a hatchet in the air . K . I enjoy the show , find a parking spot and get out . Well our fine Crystal Methodist pulls up at Beer Distributor and dismounts hatchet in hand a fallipin . Guy is just hangin, effin with the ax and his bike next to the entrance. If I haven't clearly painted the Bob Ross masterpiece by know leh me
splain it. Mofugga looks not shelf stable , 5'10" and a buck fitty of unwashed Cray Cray .
So keeping Tueller in mind . For y'all non LEO that's , Stupid with a weapon can traverse 21ft and give you a makeover before you can draw . So I digress. I walk past keeping an eye etc . Low and behold Dumbass walks in behind me . In summation. Henry Longfellow Eisten buys a tallboy , goes out , cracks it open and proceeds with the ax show whilst owning the area . No one at this point goes anywhere near . After all the inexplicable evil and violence lately I decided to call 911 .
So I call and get the Queen of the ghetto. She doesn't have any idea of the location , street , cross street or businesses being described . She asked " is he bothering anybody "? Pretty sure I just explained it . So I just said hey , with all the crazy violence going on I figured I should call . Her response was a resounding " ahh muh gahd ", as if I was here toddler waking her up at 2am . How bout save your editorial and send a cop . You know the thing . You get paid for it . Ya know in between surfing your phone and tryna remember to breathe .
Funny if Skippy did go all Paul Bunyon on some suburban housewife local authorities would be bitchin that " no one called about an ax wielding lunatic" .

Low Tech or Ancient Weapons

I must admit that I've had a fascination with ancient weaponry. The ingenuity, on the other hand, used by ancient peoples to hunt wild game or dispatch their enemies with very little material to get the job done is amazing.

Also used in survival situations and where firearms are prohibited and unaffordable, ancient or low-tech weapons come into play.

I've played around with traditional archery as well as modern compound bows. The compound bows were all sold off. They were too complex for me to use and maintain. So I have a couple older recurve crossbows, longbows and recuves.

So traditional archery for my hunting is as low tech as far as I've "regressed." On the other hand, I've used a baseball bat as a weapon before in self-defense situations. It also works as a deterent!

So I'd like to start a thread on ancient or low tech weapons. I'll start first.

The spear has fascinated me but I really suck at throwing them. Lynn Thompson at Cold Steel has produced some affordable spears. The two latest that I've acquired are the American Hunting Spear and the Maasai Spear. The second is the most badass spear that I've seen yet.

The American Hunting Spear could not be any simpler. All you need to do is purchase the head then get a shovel handle. I did a little filing and sanding for a better fit. Then applied some stain an Tru-Oil.

Anyone ever buy a house under short sale?

Looking to see if anyone has any experience in this. Potentially new house for me and the family in desirable location. Kids would have a lot of school friends very close by (unlike our current home).

Current house is 4100 sq feet as is new one. Lateral move. Difference is I can pull about 550-600k in equity out of this to make it affordable.

My question is how low is too low of an offer? I know the lender has final say so. House appears to need exterior cosmetic love, minor cosmetic upgrades plus all bathrooms renovated in most recent pics we can find from 2020.

Owner borrowed 665 for the house (public record). Hard to fathom he’s into it for more than it’s worth on regular market.

Any insight is greatly appreciated

Suppressor with a brake on it, does it help or not?

I am from Finland, and we have a long, well i would say medium time on the history in firearms, that we have been able
to use suppressor, and for sure they are made to reduce the muzzle blast and reduce the sound.
And this is the purpose of suppressor in these days too.
But in sport shooting, the spotting of the own shot´s in few different competition, or even on a hobby shooter, it is nice to able to spot your own shot´s.
I have seen quite many USA suppressor manufacturers, that offers the muzzle brake on the tip of the suppressor.
We have a coversation on a Finnish forum of this subject, and there are only me and one other guy that do think that the brake will
help to reduce the rest of the gas burst that come from the suppressor, since the suppressor by it self it is not doing the recoil reduce that much, it does
kind of push the gun, and not killing the recoil, like a pure muzzle brake on the barrel does.
But the thing is, how much does the suppressor with a muzzle brake on it reduce the recoil, is it proniment?
I have shot few suppressor that has a muzzle brake, and i can say that it does work.
But since you have more companies and users in USA these days, what is your thoughts of this?
Will the suppressor with a brake make the rifle more stable?

King by him self just made a video about this same thing yeasterday, and i would love to see a longer video from Frank about this subject.
