Shoots Hornady 88gr ELDM and 75gr ELDM Black Factory ammo very well, Suppressed and unsuppressed. Hates the 62gr ELD-VT

Only 40rds down the the barrel, the 88's look very promising. I'll put another 100rds down the barrel and update as the barrel breaks in.

I'll most likely start Load Development with the 75 ELD's, with TAC and XBR.

.510 whisper vs .50 110 win

First post,
I ordered a .50 cal barrel and am having trouble deciding if I should chamber it in .50 whisper or .50 110 win. It will be in a rem 700 long action that used to be a .338 win. I have a new bolt coming.
Barrel is 24" 1-5 twist
Cutting edge has a 1002gr. Bullet I want to send at 1100fps. Rifle is strictly for sub sonic target.
I'm sure the .50 110 will do the job but trying to cut down on c.o.a.l so I can run my 3.6" accuracy international mags.

SOLD Bergara B14 HMR 6.5 Creed LH with Nightforce Scope Base

I am selling this near-NIB B-14 HMR in 6.5 Creedmoor (Left handed). It comes with a 20 MOA Nightforce Scope Base which has been blue locktited and torqued to spec using Fixit Sticks. The barrel has exactly 45 rounds through it, and was meticulously broken in and has never been overheated.

I bought this rifle to have a lighter action for Mammoth this year, but I ended up building a full custom rig instead (classic).

It shoots extremely well and was easily sub 0.7 MOA with factory Hornady 140 grain ELD-M.

Comes with most of the original box (I cannot find the sleeve), the factory ten round mag, and of course the NF scope base. Price is 900 shipped.

Let me know if you have any questions! Thanks for stopping by.

Sidearms & Scatterguns Sig just can't get out of their own way

In the last few years, a thread will pop up on these forums about a Sig P320 that had a ND. It usually goes into a the Sig is a pos with other people talking about how great it is.

On March 7th, Sig decided the best course of action was to make a statement to the entire world here.

It's you, it is not the pistol

The TLDR is that nothing is wrong with the P320. If you criticize the 320, you are either working for Michael Bloomberg trying to strip away our 2A rights or you are a communist. The comments under the post are really funny (worth a read).

After getting completely roasted by the internet, Sig doubles down because they won a court case.

See, we told you it was you and not the P320.

Again the comments are hysterical and worth a read. I am going to jump in here and mention that there are currently almost 100 active cases in court against Sig (Lexus Nexus source). To date, Sig has lost six cases where they have been found at fault.

Then we have this bit of joy show up on the internet. Achilles Heel Tactical is holding a class. The instructor is going over the previous drill and there is a discharge on the range. He walks down the line and before he gets there says something like, "Is that a 320"? He then instructs the student to remove the gun from the range.

The two range officers behind the firing line both have said the student did not have his hand on the pistol. The six people immediately beside him all said he did not have his hand on the pistol and was holstered. Altogether, eight eye witnesses said it was in the holster and was a ND.

Bad angle, but you get the idea.

The training company (Achilles) released the following statement.

Achillese.jpg

This guy has released two videos on what he thinks is the mechanical problem with the pistol, if you are interested in why the pistols may be NDing it is interesting to watch.

Sig go boom

What happened here? Case blew up, magazine disintegrated

I was popping gophers with my T1X using CCI Standard ammo and after about fifty rounds I felt blast on my face and heard what I thought was glass breaking. I think the sound was the baseplate flying off the mag.

In the chamber I found a case with half the base tore off and stuck under the extractor. I pried it out with a knife.

20250527_185321.jpg

Sorry the pictures aren't the best. Just wondering what causes/caused this? I have had a case rupture shooting reloaded 9mm years ago but never a .22 in the thousands on thousands of rounds I have fired.

Only real loss was I couldn't find the mag spring in the grass.

Precision Rifle Gear Best Leofoto tripod for NRL/PRS?

I got a 50% off Leofoto tripod kit from NRL22 nationals since I desperately needed a tripod (luckily managed to borrow a friend's but I need my own from here on out). What's the best tripod for NRL/PRS that Leofoto offers? I want to maximize that 50% off and have no idea what the difference between all the tripods are.

For context, I'm 6'0" and one of the stages had us shoot off a tripod (either clamped or off a tac table) so I'm interested in practicing that. Otherwise it'll mostly be used for glassing and general utility (as a table, carrying markers and stuff, etc).

Bartlein Barrels Update

Gonna post this here because the bolt gun forum gets the most views. Dear Forum Moderator, If you need to move this post to another forum that is more appropriate please do so.

I/We post on SH quite a bit. So I figured I should make a post about this.

Just want to be up front and honest with everyone here. We are telling customers the same thing on the phone.

Depending on what you are ordering and when you order it....lead times can be as long as 10-12 months right now.

Some guys (not necessarily anyone from the Hide) when we've told them this they have gone off on us on the phone about it. So we are taking a beating at times but I want everyone to understand that we are all in this boat together. Ammunition and bullet makers etc...are backed up, gun manufacturers are backed up, action makers, stock makers and scope manufacturers.

I won't name the ammo maker but we have had some ammo on order since May of 2020 and I cannot get a delivery date/time frame. We're not mad at them....it is what it is.

We've been helping out individual customers to manufacturers to ammo makers etc...when they/you have an emergency that won't change. We do what we can / when we can.

I know of other barrel makers lead times are out pretty far as well. So it's not just us.

I'm also asking and I will use this as an example...a guy wins a barrel gift certificate at a match. Calls in to redeem the certificate and order the barrel. He was told 10 months. He went off on my office guy about it and demanded the barrel should be done next month. So don't put anyone in front of the firing squad for this. Free or not....we are doing what we can to take care of everyone in a timely fashion.

I don't care what you are buying and from whom....barrels, scopes, ammo etc....guys please do your best to plan ahead and plan for the worst case scenario. If you burn up 4 barrels a year in matches and only have one brand new spare left....get it on order. Regardless of where you get it from. If your planning on building a new rifle right now and already have the stock and action and barrel on order and will need a scope for it.... don't wait...get the scope on order as well.

I don't for see things getting any better anytime soon for any of us. Like I said, "We're all in the same boat!"

Pretty much the whole shop here is working 55 to 60+ hours a week. This next pay period....just between 3 guys in the shop they have a 153 hours of overtime alone! That's in a two week period and that isn't a typo!

I've also been asked and will put it out here as well..."Are we o.k. on steel?" The answer is yes! No steel shortages. We have orders scheduled into 2022 already. Nothing is holding us up from making barrels. Just not enough hours in the week!

Any questions please feel free to call. If you post a question here I'll answer it the best I can and as quick as I can but keep in mind...I don't log in everyday.

Later, Frank

Canon & Swarovski Giveaway

We are keeping the excitement going this month and switching it up a bit. We are doing a Photo and Sport Optic Give-Away this month. Drawing will be held on July 2nd

We will be giving one lucky winner a Canon EOS R100 Mirrorless Camera with RF-S 18-45 IS STM and RF-S 55-210 2 lens kit - Experience the fun of RF mount content creation with the smallest and lightest EOS R series camera, the Canon EOS R100. Excellent still-image capabilities start with its 24.1 Megapixel APS-C size CMOS Image sensor and DIGIC 8 processor, along with Dual Pixel CMOS AF with the ability to detect human faces and focus on their eyes. The EOS R100 also can record Full HD video at up to 60 frames per second, and detailed, high-res 4K from the central area of the sensor at 24 frames per second.

FEATURES

24.1 Megapixel (APS-C) CMOS Sensor - The EOS R100 is equipped with a 24.1-million-pixel CMOS (APS-C) image sensor and DIGIC 8 Image Processor. With a significantly larger sensor size than many smartphones, this camera can capture images with natural bokeh for beautiful background blur, great color, and low noise. Images look stunning even when enlarged, with fine details reproduced with clarity.

Capture Bright Images Indoors without Flash - Taking advantage of its sensor size, the EOS R100 can take high-sensitivity and low-noise images that capture the atmosphere, even in low-light conditions. That way you can take images at fast shutter speeds to minimize capture shake and subject blur.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF and Eye Detection AF - Dual Pixel CMOS AF* provides fast, accurate autofocus that helps you get the photo you want right as the moment happens. The EOS R100 features an expansive focus area that covers up to approximately 88% horizontal and 100% vertical2 of the picture area, breaking the image up to 143 AF area zones during auto selection. With the EOS R100, you can easily capture your subject quickly with the Eye Detection AF — allowing you to shoot even when the subject is far away. Eye Detection AF can also be used when the subject's full body is in frame, to lock on the eyes from a further distance.
* Contrast-based AF is used during 4K video recording.

Continuous Shooting - Capture those can’t-miss moments with up to 6.5 shots per second continuous shooting when set to One-Shot AF. This allows you to capture those momentary changes in facial expressions that are easy-to-miss.

Creative Assist and Creative Filters - Take photos in your style with similar intuitive usability of a smartphone app with the EOS R100. Creative Assist allows you to take on the challenge of image creation while in Auto Mode by changing settings such as “background blur,” “brightness,” and “saturation” easily and in real time on the Live View screen. Creative Filters on the EOS R100 allows you to select various effects from your favorite filters just like a smartphone app during shooting or playback3, so you can easily capture impressive photos to share!

Silent Mode for Quiet Operation - Capture life’s moments without worrying about distracting them with Silent Mode on the EOS R100. Whether you are at your child’s recital, or your newborn baby is sleeping, the camera’s Silent Mode ensures you don’t startle your subject by enabling capture with virtually no shutter sound and preventing flash.

High-Definition Video - With the help of the 24.1 Megapixel CMOS (APS-C) sensor, the EOS R100 can record high-quality 4K movies at up to 24 frames per second, or Full HD movies at up to 60 frames per second. By pairing the camera with a variety of RF lenses, you can express yourself by capturing videos with blurred backgrounds, in dark settings, or using various techniques that would be challenging with smartphones.

Smooth Slow-Motion Videos - HD movies can also be recorded at a high-frame rate of approx. 120 frames per second4 — ideal for smooth, slow-motion playback of videos. Designed to capture fun, beautifully detailed videos, the EOS R100 helps ensure you don’t miss any of the unique expressions of your friends’ or family's faces.

Compact, Lightweight Body - The EOS R100 camera is the smallest and lightest camera in the EOS R series1. Although it is compact and lightweight, the camera features a grip that provides a professional feel and steady hold while shooting. Whether for travel, everyday snapshots, or long-lasting still image or video shoots, you can easily enjoy taking it anywhere.

Precise Electronic Viewfinder - The EOS R100 is equipped with a high-precision 0.39-inch OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) EVF with approx. 2.36 million dots which displays a bright image and extensive shooting information. The EVF has been designed to provide a bright, sharp, and colorful approximate 100% view of the subject at hand.

Built-in Bluetooth® Capability
Bluetooth® pairing helps you connect the camera to compatible smart devices using the free Canon Camera Connect app. This low-energy wireless connection helps preserve battery life while providing remote control of the camera. It also sends continuously updated GPS location data from your phone, letting you geotag what you've captured so you know precisely where you captured the photo.

Built-in Wi-Fi Capability - Enable wireless functions, such as remote live view, file viewing and transfer, by connecting to Wi-Fi quickly and seamlessly. Using the Canon Camera Connect app, you can also transfer files to your compatible mobile device to browse and share on social media.

Another lucky winner will receive the new Swarovski Z5+ 3.5-18x50 - BT BRW - An ideal optic for long-distance shooters, the scope comes outfitted with an 80 MOA elevation adjustment range at 1/4 MOA/click so you can dial in that extra-long shot. You can also use the BRW reticle to hold over and achieve the trajectory you need. The big 50mm objective welcomes lots of light for a good view at low-light times of day or when you're fully zoomed in at 18x. The housing is made of a lightweight and durable aluminum alloy that's sufficiently waterproof to sit under 13 feet of water without leaking.

Large 50mm objective provides the light-gathering ability required for use in low or challenging light
