Hey guys, first post here. I just purchased a GA Precision M24 off of gun broker (and a 0 MOA MARS rail from the same shop). The gun is still in transit and I just want to sanity check a few things in regards to scope mounting. First off, the MARS rail did not ship with screws which I think will be problematic. I'm hoping I can just have some screws made at a shop near me. Or maybe someone knows of a website that still has them? What size screws will I need? I've also seen a post where someone mentioned having to tap the action to accept the MARS rail screws and MARS rail. Is that accurate? I just refuse to believe they sent the army a rail that required modification on the action holes but anything is possible.

Next, I wanted to purchase a scope with similar(ish) size to the Leupold M3a. I ended up going with a Leupold Mark 5HD 3.6-18x44 (a bit bigger than the original M3a scope but I wanted some newer tech to go with it). Assuming I can make the MARS rail work, what height rings will be the lowest I can go? I will probably just wait for the gun to get in before I pick rings at my LGS but if someone has a similar setup I'd love to see it.

Lastly, If I cant immediately get the MARS rail mounted up, will a standard long action Remington 700 Scope base fit onto the m24 action? I'm assuming so but I haven't been able to confirm that on the internet. Thank you guys!

What is the highest decibel reduction suppressor for 6.5 Creedmoor? I am thinking about getting one but am completely confused which one has the best performance.

I’m not hung up on it being an actual 6.5mm suppressor, .30 is fine, I’m just looking for the most objectively effective.

These folding lower receivers by Shield Arms have really caught my attention. The design and workmanship are superb, the weight is surprisingly low, and the price is, well, amazing - Especially when you consider a LAW folding adapter costs almost as much and weighs the same WITHOUT a lower receiver.

I’m not a vintage gun guy, but my son is. He fools around a bit on the Reddit threads but I’ve told him that, by and large, Reddit sucks.

Reddit usernames/posts often wink in and out, and one has a hard time ascertaining the reliability and accuracy of info given there.

Can you dudes recommend me some good forums out there on post-black powder rifles? I don’t know where else to ask this question and cannot quickly evaluate a forum’s quality.

He likes guns in the Krag .30-40 and 1883 trapdoor Springfield timeframe (the more complicated the loading mech, the better for him lol).

Btw, his interest in this area started via Battlefield 1, the WWI video game. The game is quite fun, and the ammo loading sequences are apparently accurate. Just by playing that game he can manipulate old rifles in the gun stores! He is over 18yrs old, btw.

24”, 8 twist l, proof carbon wrapped sendero contour barrel chambered in 6.5 PRC. Had it on a bat igniter action. 200 rounds shot through the barrel. It shot 5 shot 1/2 MOA groups with hand loads and Norma 143 ammo. I have 140 or so pieces of Lapua brass and Norma that will go with the barrel.

As the title says, I'm researching the best thermal for use in conjunction with a 4x32 ACOG. I've pestered @jstokes1 with these questions in the past, where I learned quite a bit. That said, I still don't have the technical know-how to really understand what all the different performance specs mean. Happy to receive any information the Hide wants to share.

My use-case is mounted on a 5.56 SBR (or training-appropriate equivalent) equipped with the aforementioned day optic, used for spotting two legged critters in force-on-force situations. As such, I'll need to make PID on them (or at least what they're carrying) within 100 yards or so. Clear identification of said critters should be easy within 300 yards.

My previous front-runner was the VooDoo-M, which should provide great clarity at the expense of a big honkin price tag. Wondering how you guys think the N-Vision Halo-C will measure up; the LRF and ballistic calculator are well in excess of my requirements though. I was also thinking about the Excelitas Dragon C12-XR, but it seems that @DownRangeThermal wasn't able to get those imported. Not sure where the NocPix Mate series clip-ons land in this lineup, or if they're a different class entirely.

I have a Kelbly Prometheus 25x47 Lapua barreled action for sale. It has a CRB 7.5 twist 26” 1.250 barrel installed (900 rds) with a Bix’n Andy trigger.

Included with this is an additional 23” 25x47 Lapua 7.5 twist Lothar Walter competition contour barrel (150 rounds) and a 24” 6 dasher Lothar Walter 1.250 barrel (225 rounds)

The chassis and scope is not included. This action is the smoothest I’ve ever owned but I just couldn’t get accustomed to the mechanical ejection vs spring loaded ejector.

I am putting together an M40A5ish build and my local gunsmith is doing the work to the barrel. Already have a finished action so the barrel is not all that complicated. I have the specs on the barrel but does a manufacturing drawing or print exist that shows the specs and for the barrel. If not I am cofident we will get it done with what we have. Just looking to provide the most detail I can. Thanks.

New old member here. I have been away from the Hide for about 10 years, and feel it's time to get back to some precision projects now that the kids are gone! I always wanted a Parker-Hale M82, but, they are un-obtanium, and when one pops up, they are super expensive. So, I have planned to build a "clone" for some time, so here goes. I found Old West Scrounger had M81 "cadet" stocks available. The profile is the same as the M82, but they are single shot, and use a different accessory rail. I bought a couple to play with. Pro's, they have the internal magazine outlined for in-letting and are beautiful Walnut stocks made by Parker Hale, with spacers and a recoil pad. Cons, as mentioned above, different accessory rail (Anschultz style versus the PH threaded rail), no internal magazine, and as they were single shot, large round recesses for excrussions. I plan to inlet the magazine well, and found a PH accessory rail for the Cadet stock, which will be , not quite right, but, is what it is. I started searching for a large ring commercial 98 action, and decided to use a Zestava action for the project. I found a good one in 30-06 on gunbroker, and pulled the trigger. A day later, three nos, in the white Santa Barbra actions came up for sale. Santa Barbra produced the commercial actions for PH. To much to resist, bought one. I also scrounged a set of PH 22 and 28 scope bases, and found two brand new RAHS3 scope rings in 1 inch. I plan to go with a 10 power fixed Bushnell 1 inch scope. The M82 used the RALS3, but the high rings will work with my scope. I sent the Santa Barbra action to my smith, who advised me it was actually a magnum action, and would need the bolt face welded up if I was going to run .308 through it. As I also had the Zastava action, I had him swap bolts, true the lugs and bolt face, and she will work fine for .308. This leaves me with the Zastava machined action, which now has a magnum bolt in it. Next build, .404 Jeffery Safari rifle... Last is the barrel. I had McGowan Precision build a 26 inch 1-12 twist on the M82/1200TX profile. Barrel arrived, and is a thing of beauty. Time to put all of this stuff together into a rifle.
