Dad 72 getting shoulder replacement advice.

Found out today my dad who is 72 is going to have his shoulder replaced. I know he has had surgery on both already. He is bad about doing the PT after. Any advice for him or me? He has 6 grandkids hopefully being able to do stuff with them will be motivation to do the PT. I can always yell at him. @powdahound76 can come do some KS deer hunting and yell at him too.

Opinions on VV N540 powder for 223/5.56 hand loads?

In my quest to find a good alternative to XBR-8208 (because it's never available) for my 77 TMK loads, I got 1 lb of N540 to try out. Do any of you guys have experience with this powder using heavier bullets in 223/5.56 loads?

I have used several other popular powders in my search for an XBR alternate, including Varget (too slow), TAC (not accurate enough), Staball Match (too slow), AR Comp (it's awesome but I'm allergic to it...

) and a few more that I'm forgetting at the moment.

Thanks,

-ZA

What could cause my shots at longer ranges to go right 2”

I zeroed at 50 yds experimenting with MPBR with my Tikka .243. I am dead center at 50 yds but at 100, 200, and 250 I’m 2-3” right of bullseye. I’m really trying to focus on mechanics but I’m still pulling shots to the right. After the shot and follow through, my crosshairs actually go left, not right. I’m shooting off a bench with front and rear bags. I’m also sighting in a Iray thermal scope. Any suggestions? Thanks

SOLD Kidd Supergrade in McMillian A5-22 Stock - $1,000

The rifle was purchased as a complete build from Kidd.

Original Kidd Supergrade where the barrel is threaded into the receiver. This is not a slip fit or the current style Supergrade....the barrel is threaded into the receiver.

20" heavy match bead blasted barrel. The barrel is not threaded. McMillian A5-22 stock, inlet with the Kidd tang, bedded to this action. Single stage trigger.

Very light use. Some light handling marks from the safe on the top of the barrel....I can't get them to show up in a picture. Otherwise, like new condition.

FFL to FFL unless you are local to SW MI with a CPL. Zelle or Venmo preferred.

Parker Hale M-85 Build

Hi Guys ,

I am soon going to start a Parker Hale M-85 Build , so after any ideas , as to things you would improve on , over a STD M-85 Build , so looking for evolution , not revolution , ideas , I have some ideas already , as to what I will change and what I will not .
So put your thinking caps ON , and throw some ideas out there .
As you guys probably know , I have a original M-85 , its rocking a MK4 M3 scope on her at the moment , that rifle is NOT changing , this is a bitsa build , so think of scopes , mounts , anything you would change over a STD M-85 , calbre , bipod , stock , suppressor , etc any mod you think would bring benefits .

Cheers Chris

Member Link Up Any Air Force Academy Grads Out There?

My daughter is about to start her freshman year of high school and her #1 goal is to go to the USAFA. We spent nearly two hours with her guidance councilor today and she was very helpful and very eager to help my daughter along her way. One thing that caught my attention is that this councilor has never had a student apply to the AFA. To West Point, but not to the AFA. She also divulged that Air Force recruiters in our area are few and far between and often difficult to get a hold of. I am the type of guy that when there is something VERY important that is outside of my knowledge base, I will kick every bush and pull out all the stops to find the information I'm looking for.

My daughter is also very active in our local Civil Air Patrol squadron and just loves it. While CAP has a lot of great resources, I thought it would really awesome to find someone who had acutally been there and graduated from the AFA. We know we are off to a great start but having a bit of guidance as to where to focus, what may give her a leg up and just general questions would be a huge help.

Thanks in advance,
CM

Using Tape on the back of a loaded round to check or set headspace. . . .

When proper Headspace gauges are not available, this is a pretty widely used method of spitballing a sorta-close headspace. It has been used for a long time and is considered a rough cheat code to make sure the HS is in the right zip code.

My concern recently is that we have been seeing ammo quality (consistency specifically ) being all over the place. Seemingly in the last 20yrs it has gotten worse instead of better. Maybe because of 2 or 3 back to back ME wars and the producers not taking time to PM their machines and double check QC processes as much. (?)

Anyway . . . . . . . my point is that I have a literal pile of factory ammo that won't go into correctly headspaced factory chambers.

The worst offender is Hornady but I have a few Federal, Win and even Sig.
These rounds look perfect visually but are too long on the shoulder datum -> headstamp dimension. We have also seen a few that are too short on the opposite of that dimensional spectrum to the point they are inducing ignition problems.

I don't think using such a round with tape on the rear to "set" or check headspace would be "dangerous" but if the sample cartridge was out of spec, it could cause excessive brass stretch.
It could even cause the phone to ring at shops like Wade's to bitch about an out of spec chamber that is actually in spec.

@spife7980 I'm not arguing or trying to bust your chops. Just sharing my personal thoughts based on personal concerns and experience, neither of which proves I'm right. So this post is simply meant as food for thought and a "rumble strip" warning to proceed cautiously for the novices.
