My brother gave me his Montana Elk rifle and I picked it up a couple weeks ago. He also gave me his stash of 140 rounds of Winchester Supreme 160gr Fail Safe! I bore scoped it and the chamber is excellent. Lot's of copper in the lands but I got all that out.
A couple of problems. The trigger is set at 6.5lbs and I can not get the action out of the stock even with some rubber mallet blows. I think it may have been improperly bedded before my brother bought it. I know there are 3 action screws. I'm taking it to my gunsmith next week. I definitely don't want to damage the stock getting it out. I'd like to adjust the trigger down and maybe replace the spring with an Mcarbo.
The other problem is the scope in those rings can not be moved rearward. It's a Leupold VXII 3x9 and I believe Leupold rings. I hate to put a picatinny rail on it; are there other options?
Anyway, I have found some new Win brass from Midway a month or so ago and I need a set of dies.

Have two other of these on competition rifles, had ordered this one for a hunting rifle but then I tried one of those on my 6CM hunting rifle and while it helped I don’t think I’ll use it for hunting. Love them on my comp rifles though.

Not sure why this is so hard for me to figure out but I cant seem to lock the diopter. The instructions say that after you get your diopter where you want it grasp it and hold it still while you rotate the lock ring clockwise (this puts the lock ring up against the magnification ring). I torque it down then go to move the diopter and it's not locked at all, it spins freely changing the diopter without moving the magnification. ...I don't get it.

If I spin the lock ring counterclockwise putting it up against the diopter it seems to lock it as one unit

These are good live pilot finishing reamers with 10-15 uses on each. Plenty of life left. Hell I don’t even like reamers until they’ve cut 10+ chambers.

I bought these at the start of my career about 14 years ago and back then deferred to the tool makers suggestions or just bought a saami reamer. Now all my reamers come from JGS and they mark the shank of each one with critical specs. Having every detail lasered onto the side of your reamer is priceless… but 14 years ago I hadn’t realized that yet.

Reamers should be saami minimum body, and in most cases a saami fb/throat. You can often look at the throat grind and get an idea of how long it is, and 1-30 seems to be the most common lead angle by far, so I can usually look at a reamer and have some idea of its throat dimensions.
