Cutting Edge Tipped Bullets - Splash

I just got my rebarreled 37XC back and took it out for some barrel break in/speed up. With Berger 410s being late in coming, I've got to pick a round to load develop with. One of my main considerations is finding a bullet with sufficient expansion to enable visible splash for misses and target movement on impacts past 2500 yards.

In my last barrel I used Lehigh 353s and they were abysmal in this regard. I've got a fair number of A-Tips, but I'm not sure about them.

Now, I'm looking at the Cutting Edge tipped bullets and am posting to see if anyone who's used them could comment on their terminal performance.

7 PRC Sticky Bolt

Shooting Seekins PH2 in 7 PRC. Loading once fired Hornady brass using Hornady dies. Load is 62.0 grains H4831SC at 3.300” COAL for 175 ELDX. The Hornady load data one below MAX is 62.4 grains at 3.265” COAL. My throat as measured using Hornady lock-n-load is 3.346”. So I’m 0.046” off lands. Rounds shoot great, 3 shot groups under 1/2”. For me and a
Hunting rifle I’m good with that. The bolt lift is sticky. The primers are not as flat as the last box of Hornady 175 ELDX I bought. You guys with experience, how much powder charge should I back off to alleviate a sticky bolt? I’m working up a hunting load. Rifle has 26” barrel. I’m good with 2850-2900 ft-sec as long as it’s repeatable. The factory stuff is not the same , lot to lot. I called Hornady and they said they were changing powders and charge trying to get back to the published 3000 Ft/sec. I’ll probably load the next group at 61.5 grains to see if dropping 1/2 grain fixes this.

Gunsmithing Remington 700 DBM opinions from guys that put them in.....and use them.

Lots of options out there. Lots of opinions.

Figured Id ask here amongst the people that install them in hopes of finding out what is preferred as far as ease of fitting and just plain works for the customer.

My build is going to be a wood stocked R700 in .308.

Kind of an M40esque heavy barrel with a detachable box and tiger striped walnut.

Screwing up and impulse buying wood is leading me into an expensive project.

I dont have a lot of room like a McMillan stocked rifle might offer so Im thinking an option using the standard R700 BDL inlet may be the way to go.

I like the idea of the mag release being in the trigger guard.

Ive come to the opinion this PTG product might be my way to go.....

1576870389604.png

Im assuming this uses single column magazines.

I like the idea of staggered but that probably goes against my desire to remain inside the existing BDL inlet.

Any help with my decision making is appreciated - either installation issues or end user problems.

Thank you.

Proper Headspacing - resistance

Just finished my first barrel install. I’m probably over-thinking this, but is it a problem if there’s a tiny bit of resistance when closing on the go-guage? It’s closing fully, there’s just a bit more resistance opening and closing than I feel on an empty chamber. It’s not like I have to crank down on it, just something you’d notice if you’re thinking about it.

Or did I just install it with tight clearance like a good gunsmith 😁

Mods: I can’t login on internet based forum, not receiving 30-day email codes

Ever since the move to the new server/software getting signed into the forum via the website has become a nightmare. I am no longer receiving emails for notifications nor am I getting the two-step verification codes in order to log back in.

I’ve sent general emails about the matter twice now with no reply back. I am tired of paying for a website that I can’t log into. Can a mod please contact me to fix this issue?!

Important Rules for HACKED ACCOUNTS

Hacked Accounts

If your account was hacked, meaning you have a compromised email and they found you, went in, and changed your email. We can fix it. However, we need you to do a few things first for this to work easier.

1. Do not make a New Account with the Old or Same Email - We cannot use duplicate emails for two accounts; the system will block me. For those who make two accounts, I have to go in, delete that one, remove the email address from there, and put it back in your original account
Most hackers are just trying to access the PX with your account, you can go in and delete that stuff.

2. If you know your password was used somewhere else and was hacked, they will find you here; try changing it.

3. Hacked accounts change the email, if the account is the original email, it is not Hacked, If a person who has not sold before decides to sell or, god forbid list a bunch of stuff, they are not hacked. I get a lot of, I think this is hacked with ZERO Evidence; we need evidence. Too often, people use this to try and get us to confirm the validity of a sale, and instead, our mods will just ban it. We have a limited number of moderators, and they are not full-time and not paid, don't make them do your job.

Most of this stuff is done in the middle of the night, and takes a bit of time for the site to react or answer the hacked post. So if you get an email your account was changed, email us immediately or have a buddy if you can't, give them your User Name and Email we can fix it.

In any case, whether you email me or contact the site as a user, I don't care the reason, I need your User Name and Email. Too many people do nto do that as assume we know. Especially with a hacked account, your email has been changed and in your communicate if you don't give me the User Name I can't find you because, ah, the hacker changed your email address.

Details matter and get the situations solved very quickly. If you require me to hunt for details, chances are your window will close and I just delete it all. I will nuke the hacked account and you start all over again.

557 223 different weights

loading a bunch of 223s for my AR, I check weight on my powder every 7 bullets or so,I also weight the complete bullet after it's done just making sure no mistakes, normally it's
175. To 177 I'm checking I get a weight 189.5 I pull the bullet apart perfect powder weight bullet 55grain but I find out the brass is a 5.56 the brass for a 223 is 95. The 556 is 108.5 I load 223 specks I realized the 556 has more pressure didn't realize the brass was alot heavier. Shouldn't be any problems shooting right. I'll take any replies.
