Sniping In The Ukraine

I was under the impression that their mil snipers are mostly using AI and Barrett, and 338 LM is the preferred calibre.

However, with civilians picking up arms (admittedly not 'snipers') I guess the best gun for shooting the enemy is whatever gun you have avaliable when you encounter the enemy.

I was reading an article last week, can't find it now (Google swamped with sniper articles) where it was explained that snipers are working in teams (5-ish) rather than pairs, and using cameras to monitor enemy movements and patterns, then deploying shooters to manipulate the enemy into good locations for artillery or similar.

Seems like at least one level above how I had imagined it would be (dig hole, wait, shoot at enemy, run before boomerang or whatever locates you and artilleries the shit out of your location). I guess people smarter than me have been thinking about force multiplying tactics!

That sounds like the old wolf pack concept. It’s not really a new idea. It would be interesting to know how spread out these teams might be and methods of communication.

Even though they might be reported as sniper teams could they really be small fire teams with a sniper or DMR added?

Regardless of whatever they are this would still be interesting to follow up on.

Fair enough, new to me 😉

It sounds more scout/recon to me than snipers per se but it's in the ballpark. I mean, if you get right down to it, what do snipers do in any conflict? Put grains in brains...

Here’s an article written and translated on 2/2/22. The writer describes the 5 man teams as well as camera surveillance.

He writes like it’s from the Ukrainian perspective but uses “we” when he mentions that the US is learning from the Ukrainians. Something lost in translation?

The video of the female sniper with thermal scope that is embedded in the article is taken from 2018.

I’m taking some of this with a grain of salt but will want to re-read it when I have time. The salient point in this is the use of cameras.

For someone (sniper or not) that’s a major threat.

some people don't grow up believing in hell, and they are not taught that sinners go to hell.
i think it is pretty easy sometimes to tell who those people are.

Wait...reloading is illegal in Ukraine?

I saw that as well. Maybe it was at the time that video was made. Don't think that they'd wouldn't like to make it illegal here.

I don't know about the Ukraine (then) but they didn't have a problem with showing off or having their suppressors photographed. It's darn difficult to get a firearm but it's expected that one also purchase a suppressor to cut down on the noise pollution.

Who here says they love Putin? Post proof or shut the fuck up.
100% support Putin in this, he's not wrong at all. Perhaps he could have done things differently but the reality is the west left him with little choice and was absolutely provocative

Don't love the man but know enough of the past decade plus to see this is not on him

This article written last year. The big takeaway from this article seems that the Russians aren't as much interested in hitting targets at 1,000 meters and beyond as much as using sniper fire as suppressive fire until they can get artillery on that target.

Won't let me post the link but apparently a Candian special forces sniper response the the longest documented kill in Iraq is heading to Ukraine.

It's like a firefighter who hears the alarm ringing': One of the 'world's deadliest snipers' who fought in Afghanistan and Iraq arrives in Ukraine from Canada after answering Zelensky's plea for foreign fighters

since you think you know so much, try and absolve the western powers of what is happening. That is, if you can with all the cum in your stomach

hey, hey, just because Obama used American tax money to fund murderous Islamic extremists to overthrow less radical establishments that he and Soros didn't like, kicking off wars, genocide, and mass migrations that ruined Europe; and just because John McCain flew over as a representative of the United States in order to met with those terrorists and arrange money and weapons deals, to fund and supply all of that war and genocide, doesn't mean that we can't blame all the problems of the world on Russia!

we know. And when a few thousand people marched on Moscow to protest Putin, that Peppermint Patty skank said it was "brave and courageous" But when millions of people marched on Washington to protest the fraud which we all knew about, she called them "insurrectionists".

there is no freedom of speech anymore. No one has the right to use logic to question the government's motives, or call them out for wrongdoing. And the traitorous, self-proclaimed communist Brennan even said that anyone disagreeing with the government was committing treason.

even if you are allowed to speak, they can cut it up and regurgitate it however they want to the masses, and most will believe it.
1/2 the country believe rittenhouse had murdered two unarmed black guys.
the lead attorney of trump's impeachment had not heard trump denounce white supremacists in charlottesville. he had only seen the chopped up video and quotes in the lamestream media, until the night before the trial began.

I actually just finished a 9 month academic program studying great power competition, irregular warfare, and US statecraft. I was able to tailor my assignments specifically to Russia. Using Congressional reports, Rand studies, historical analysis by academics specializing in the fall of the Soviet Union and the rise of the current Russian state I studied the motivation operations, activities, and investments of Russia and Putin. I also hold a security clearance and am informed by information that is relevant to an organization who is regionally and historically focused on the European theater. I have 20yrs of operational experience in EUCOM.

And then there's the guy quoting the guardian.
Theis?

This you ?
