I bought a Dead Air Mask last year. 6 months later I bought a TBAC Ultra 9. I'm hooked and I want to suppress everything. What platform should I consider for shooting suppressed 9mm? I'm leaning towards a PCC. No SBRs. It will mostly be used as a range toy, but don't take that to mean I'm indifferent towards reliability. I would like to keep it under $2,000 not including optics. LRBHO is ideal.
Man, you sound like me. I started with a 5.56 suppressor, just to "take the edge off" for times when I couldn't always wear hearing protection. Now ... I don't want to shoot unsuppressed. 9mm is great suppressed. It's cheap and has enough thump to satisfy that itch.
I'd try to stick with a shorter barrel for two reasons. 1, a rig can get long and unwieldy and just not as much fun. 2, too much barrel and some 147s will get to supersonic. Or worse, you're blinking along suppressed and not attracting attention, then hit that hot round and it goes super sonic.
There was a mention above of sticking to the CMMG model with the fixed ejector. I don't agree. As far as I know, all of the fixed ejector models are straight blow back and straight blow back is not what you want.
I'd look into some flavor of delayed blow back. Either radial or roller delayed and I'm not talking about any contraption that has the delay mechanism built into the buffer. The buffer deal is a PITA.
What I wanted was something that I could abuse, was simple and when it broke, I could get parts for. I put one together using a radial blowback setup from CMMG. Their barrel and bolt carrier group. Mine has seen thousands upon thousands of rounds and runs well. I don't know about the problems people had with the ejector. It's probably real, but when I got mine, I replaced the extractor and ejector springs like I do in all of my BCGs and I never had a problem.
