I never understood why anyone did the admin thing on sites anyways. I did it once probably almost 20 years ago. Within a couple of days I was spending 4+ hours a day policing my buddies for $20/ month (the free monthly membership or whatever). It was some hall monitor bullshit. I've been offered admin positions on a few other sites since then and I couldn't refuse fast enough. It's like volunteer work for a bunch of people who will lowkey hate you for doing a job you don't get any compensation for. Makes zero sense. These sites make money. It varies, but they make money, and then they get people to do the grunt work for a digital pat on the back. Miss me with that bullshit forever.
A lifelong hobby of mine (I briefly tried to go pro but it didn't work out) is playing guitar and singing. For some years I was in a singer's forum. I had the ability to spot scam and spam before anyone else. So, the owner, a vocal coach many may not have heard of was generous with his time and others convinced him to make me a mod. This gave me the ability to ban scammers and spammers, which is pretty much all that I did.
As for other machiavellian shit going on there, I tried to stay out of it. The drama in that place could be intense.
Another vocal coach (many had joined and knew each other from previous forums) joined and he was a bit of a stink-raiser. But he was also a good singer. Better to my ears than the owner of the site who owns a vocal training program.
But I was friendly with this other coach and he started a forum and I joined that one. Somehow, news of this got back to the old forum and the owner had now considered this rival coach bad news and anyone associated with him to be bad. The admin asked me if I was a member of this other forum and I did not reply. They are not cops, this is not interrogation.
The next day, my mod status was revoked. The following day, I was banned. When I say banned, I mean permanently. Even to this day, If I try to log in or even start a new account with my email or from my home IP, I get the message of being permanently banned. And this all went down around 2012.
On the other hand, 'tis sweet karma. Most everyone has heard of Seth Riggs (his program has helped Sebastian Bach.) Others have heard of Brett Manning and Singing Success.
Tom Kiefer from Cinderella credited his vocal coach, Ron Anderson.
The rival coach has a successful channel.
The site that banned me? No one knows of this guy to this day. It's really an echo chamber in that place.
And also, I find that being a mod is a time suck.
In this forum, I am just here to learn. To step on my own feet and get roasted. And to laugh and participating in the roasting of others.
