Just wanted to show my results for the first time out to 300 yards. This is Berger 155 Hunting VLD's in Lapua Brass, Win Primers, 46.4gr Varget, 3/4 Neck Tension and OAL of 2.81. This 5 shot group was immediately after 32 previous rounds with no rest. I was shooting at talc filled ballons yesterday at temp was 101. I have no idea what the humidity was, but it was humid.

Actual distance was 308 yards, shot off of bench on bags.

Re: 155 Berger VLD's at 308 Yards

Very nice.I have a 308 in a manners stock and I love it .I built mine with a 10 twist for heavy bullets but I usually shoot Berger 155's because it shoots them so well and more pleasant to shoot. My accuracy node with varget is 47.3 in normal weather.About a week ago I was shooting out of my garage and it was getting big groups(.6--.7) at 100.This puzzled me so I chronographed the load and is was 70 fps faster than usual(2950fps). It was 6pm. I walked around to look at the thermometer and it was pegged at 110. I have had enough Texas summer this year.

Yeah I really like the light weight recoil of the 155's. I'm shooting the VLD Hunting rounds as I want one round for shooting fun, long range and whitetail here in MS. It seemed like the perfect compromise all around. I conducted my load development in extreme heat so I may have to play around with it a little bit now that it is cooling off. I put a lot of thought into this rifle and it does everything pretty well but some things better than it should. One day I will take it out West for some long range hunting.

what are you getting 3k velocity with that much varget and that bullet?!

You may not have to play with it as much as you think. I cannot talk for your rifle and load, but the load I have with the wife's Mini SASS and Varget only showed a 10-15fps drop in speed from when I developed it last year in mid summer and 87 degree heat. I then tested it again in January when it was only 15 degrees outside. Just test it out when it gets cold out, it may surprise you too.

jdmartin can get 2950 fps from 47.3-4 gr Varget in a 24" tube with Lapua cases. This is a pretty standard 155 Scenar loading. The 47.8 gr Varget gows with Win cases.

Thread originator should be 75-100 fps lower than this due to his low charge weight of 46.7gr.

Nice results. I'm going to load some of these this weekend.

Did you ever chrono these loads?

Re: 155 Berger VLD's at 308 Yards

I get 2820 out of a 20" barrel with 46.0 var and 155 scenars lapua cases. Add 4" of barrel and another 1.5'ish gr of varget, zoom!.

For me thats+9mil at 1k. I'm showing at 2950 its +8.1 at 85deg and 30 absolute pressure.
