We had originally planed on the 6th, but the Benelli Shotgun Event is that weekend. I took the next available Saturday. Figured we needed another thread to keep everything tidy and to keep track of who wants to go. They asked how many to expect, so I went with 10 and told them I would call if we would have more. Its $25 for each person that is shooting. Any other questions, ask below. We are providing our own steel!!! If you can bring some, please mention below. I will be checking out an alternate field nearby at over 1000 yards just in case we ever need a backup. If you have never been to RockCastle before, please get there early and fill out the survey and waivers. Everybody will meet in the parking lot of the lodge after paying your fee to RockCastle. Would like to leave the parking lot and drive to the range at 8:45 to set up asap at 9am.

Can't be around for this shoot but let me know when you guys are doing another. If I am in TN/KY I will do my best to make it.

I am good to go for the 13th. I can bring a chrono if needed. Will we be meeting down by the barn or up at the lodge?

You'll have to meet at the lodge to sign in and pay. Don't know if I can make it this time or not.

Jmanwit,

Just post on here when you are for sure you will be able to make it. I told them ten, but I bet we will end up with close to 20. We would be happy to have you out with us. I used to shoot over at the Montgomery Co Shooting Center on their 400 yard range. Looks like you will be the one this time seeing Guthrie, Russellville, and and Auburn:)!

TW/Shane

What kind of facilities do they have at the shooting range up in Rockcastle? Someone mentioned to me a range up by LBL that you could shoot a couple hundred meters but you guys mentioned 1000. I would be pretty stoked to have a 1k range within an hours drive of home.

ETA- Nevermind, Google turned up plenty of info. Looks like a great facility and I will be getting a membership when I return.

Thanks for the heads up.

They have several ranges. The one we've been using goes to 1100 in the bottom. There's another target on the hill side that's around 1500-1600 yds. Rockcastle is just outside of Park City.

Tired Winds, will do. Just got to set it all up with work. I am in Kalifornia right now, introducing the lady friend to the Parents (who haven't escaped yet. Soon, though...)

Another question, will anyone have any "Entry-Level" optics that I can take a peep through? Just trying to make my decision

Normally there will be everything from Barska's to stuff that costs more than my car. Just smile, ask nice, and most folks there will show ya their gear.

TW/Shane

What are you needing by entry level? I have a Bushnell XRS and a Razor HD you can play with if you want.

Greene

Well, those are closer to High-End scopes according to my budget, but I was thinking along the lines of the 10x Bushnell Elite 3200 and the Falcon Menace and such. Just a beginning scope, so I can get used to fundamentals and manipulation of the scope controls.

I have a 10x bushy on my 22lr. I can bring it or put it on my old 260 rifle if you wanna try it out.

Greene

If I can for sure make it, I will letcha know. I would hate to ask you to do that and then not show.

I have not seen anybody else mention if they will be bringing steel. Ive got 5 real good 10 inch wide by 1/2 inch AR500 steel plates on swings. If we are only going to be 10 or so, we can make them work and move them around a lot, but more would be better. If you have been thinking about getting some, I recommend these folks http://www.qualitytargets.com . I have yet to make a dent in the ones I bought from them and they are somewhat local.

TW/Shane

Guys I should be there for this one. Looking forward to meeting ya'll

Jmanwit, I have an AW in .308 win i will be bring with me to shoot that you can finger if you can make it. You said you might be interested in an AI chassis.

Shane, I thought Chase had been in contact with you. But we have steel we can bring. I have a 25 and 66% ipsc along with a 5pc circle set that goes up to 12". Have 4 swinging stands and special Tpost stands for the ipsc.

Perfect!!!! We should have enough steel. More is still always better. If anybody is in doubt, bring it if ya have room for it:)

Shane/TW

PS: I have not ordered my can yet, waiting on a retirement check this summer to get that paperwork started but would like to see a few out there myself.

that would be awesome. Like I said, I just gotta try to make it out there. You never know about work... lol

I would really like to make the trip up there. I fall in firmly into the maybe, hope to, will try camp.

What's the latest you would need a definite yes to get in on it?

Thanks,

Joe

I'm keeping a list just so we can have a rough idea how many folks ( affects setup time ) and if somebody is a big yes and not in the parking lot at 9, I may wait around for them. I65 has been having a lot of delays in the area due to construction and some bad accidents it has caused ( this area of I65 is called Death Valley between Etown and BG ). Also, I don't want to tell RockCastle 10 folks and we have 40 show up. That might upset them. I want them to be as happy to see us come shoot as we are.

TW/Shane

PS: I don't think we have to worry about over 25 and just note on here the day before as far as I'm concerned.

Hey all, I'll try to make this one. I backed out of the last shoot you all held, but I'm still game for a meet up.

I'm a member at Rockcastle, don't know if that affects putting me on the firing line list as a group shooter or not. Anyway, really looking forward to meeting everybody.

P.S. I have a 12" round steel target, but I'll be driving my car and cannot fit the stand. If someone has a way to hang it that'd be awesome. I'll bring it just in case.

the list means nothing really, I guess. The folks whom used to arrange these shoots kept a list. I'm stealing as much as I can for these events as I can from them. I bet they kept the list as "bait" so people would not be afraid to show up out of fear they were going to be the only ones there. This is going to be fun for all. Hope the next two weeks go fast. I need trigger time:).

Shane/TiredWings (I'm 43 and I'm too old for people to call me this in public)

PS: Jonesy, strap it to the roof with duct tape:) You will fit in fine on I 65!

PSS: You would think a bunch of guys in shooting gear, looking all serious in camo and wearing gun co. hats would make it easy to pick out members of our group the morning of. Not so at RockCastle and the surrounding area:) Ya'll may want to consider http://snipershide.mycustomevent.com/ShoppingCart.aspx?com=detailview&iid=58&cid=279&cid=279 or some other stuff on that site so we can spot each other and start lying about how bad we shoot before we start. Blah blah blah, I get no moneys from promoting this website....just have seen a few confused "Hiders" at past events.

Shane, those t-shirts are a great idea. I ordered mine yesterday (color: Blue Dusk, we'll see what it actually looks like on the 13th!).

My uncle has also expressed interest in coming with us. Would it be ok for me to bring him?? He shoots a .50; is it okay with everyone for him to bring something that big? He probably won't fire more than 20 rounds or so because of the expense even with reloading.

Thanks guys, can't wait.

Ive got 1/2 inch ar500 steel. I have no problem with him shooting my steel, if he promises to replace it if he punches a hole in it or bends it like a taco shell:) Others may be different. Sorta a "shoot at your own risk" kinda deal for him. He is welcome to come on out and shoot on my stuff as long as he considers the above.

TW/Shane

Me and Chaser have 10 plates with stands that we'll be bringing plus 4 poppers to sling some lead at too! Looking forward to it guys!!!

Sorry havnt been following the thread here lately. Between Greene, landis, and myself we should have a good amount if steel to shoot at

It's a long way off, and will probably change a dozen times from now til then, but the long range forecast is in for the 13th. Sunny, high of 70, and winds from SW at 8mph. Hope that forecast holds:)

TW

Definitely making it out there. Greene, thanks for the offer on the scope, but probably going with the Weaver 3-15x50. (BTW, anyone have one?) Tevis, looking forward to shooting it.

OK, I'm in. Looking forward to getting out past 500.

Edited to add:

I don't have any steel to bring but I do have a MagnetoSpeed V2 chronograph. I will bring it in case anyone needs velocity data to help them get on target at long range.

The long term forecast is holding true. 65 degrees and wind at 8mph WSW and sunny. Would have been nice this weekend, but winds being called for at 16 mph.

Well, I'm out. My wife had to have back surgery and she is going to be out of commission for a few weeks. Maybe next time.

Hope ya'll have fun!

TN-Maddog,

Sorry to hear the bad news. Don't tell my wife I said this, but they are more important than gun fun. Also, a gun wont take your house and half your stuff:)

TW

Work permitting, I might be able to come out with my shooting partner. How much steel is there going to be? I have quite a bit and had planned on setting up a 30 person shoot out at Rockcastle as soon as they got back to me on it.
I can bring something out if it's needed. I have full size IPSC plates for longer shots. all the way down to 45%. But I will comment on the guy that wants to shoot a 50 BMG. He wont be shooting at my steel! 1/2" AR500 will crater inside of 1k with a 50BMG. Or as an adverse side affect, it will tear your stands all to shit.

I will notify when it gets closer if I can make it. Thanks

KYS338,

I think we may be OK on steel at this point (jeeze, what do 50 cal guys shoot? I have yet to see anybody that makes anything thicker than ar 500 1/2 inch that is affordable. Dude might want to bring his own cinder blocks and plan on cleanup after and/or call ahead to RockCastle to see what they recommend ) but it wouldn't hurt to bring a couple or so. I am bringing 5, 10inch plates, ar500, 1/2in thick on stands. They got kinda small after 800 yards. Considering how I've stole the setup for this event from you, you are welcome to do whatever you like and any input will be appreciated.

TW/Shane

He'll be shooting my steel. We're going to ride together, so I think I can fit my stand in his truck. I want to see exactly what a .50 will do to AR500 past 500 yards. I've never seen any evidence that it would crater it, but if you say so...

Depends on the ammo he uses as well. Ive seen 1/2" AR take a series beating with a 50BMG. It will destroy the stands first, just consider how much energy is hitting. Those guns are anti material platforms, meant for destroying static targets.
I always enjoyed our shoots, but my targets always took a serious beating, but I have the means to fix them where as most don't.

I have 8, 10, 12" squares on mobile stands.
IPSC 45, 50, 66, and full size silhouettes
Circle and square combos

I can bring about anything. The full size IPSC are good for 1k and out.
