Vudoo Gun Works V-22 Rimfire Bolt Action

I've been working with plugrusa.com on a safety flag that's finally done. I ran it during the NRL22 Nationals and have been running it since. It's magnetic and will attach to the front of the breach and then has a bungee to keep the bolt held.

You can get them here - http://www.plugrusa.com/shop/chamber-flag-for-22lr-bolt-action/

I don’t think I will have to wait much longer. Just got a message from Jill asking if they could sub a different MOA base, other than that I might have to wait another month. So went with a 20 MOA instead of a 30.
I went with the 40!

Anyone with a 60 moa base, I have a question can you zero at 50 yards?

mid not what is the yardage you can zero?

I have a nx8 so I do have lots of travel..

I am getting ready to order a V22. But I am not sure what barrel length or profile to go with for my setup.

Plan right now is a left handed action, in a xylo chassis, and will always wear a thunderbeast takedown 22. With a BixnAndy tacsport

Question is what is the best barrel length and profile to go with?

What kind of shooting? I'm guessing xylo chassis = PRS style? If so then get the 18" MTU. Normally I'd say 20" MTU, but if you're always going to run a suppressor then drop it to 18".

It literally doesn’t matter. They all shoot fine from 16.5” all the way to 22”.

Lighter contours and shorter barrel will make balancing the rifle harder.

Anyone know if vudoo will slug the barrel for you? I’m assuming since they make the barrel whatever length you want it’s not part of their process. Curious if it’s an option.

The Xylo is rear heavy. I have an 18" kukri and I need to buy weights to balance it out.

I read "somewhere" that Vudoo does not slug the cut rifled barrels which is what are used on the V22. Same "somewhere" I read that they will be slugging the Single Shot rifle barrels as some are not cut rifled. Sorry for no link to the source I read.

Looking for opinions on barrel length and taper before I place my finalised order.

Looking at either a 18-20in kukri
Or an 18-20in mtu. (Into a separately purchased mpa hybrid)

Obviously the mtu is heavier, but not sure that would make a difference on a .22
Im not looking to replicate a centrefire rig so makes no difference in that regard.

Thanks in advance.

I have two Vudoo repeaters and they both have 23" barrels with a kukri taper and I'm very pleased with them, they are great shooters. If it were me I'd order a 22" kukri and call it good. I just like a slightly longer barrel for balance and 22" is still not too long. I had one with a 16.5" barrel and it was a great shooter also but just did not feel right to me. It also produced a sonic crack sometimes with some of my favorite ammo (SK Biathalon Sport) where the slightly longer barrels did not.

Good luck, Shane

I have a 22” MTU and wish it was heavier. I want it to have more weight in the front to balance in a Foundation stock and be closer to my centerfire.

I'm not sure if it's because my barrel was slugged per se, but I ordered 20" and my actual delivered length was 18.75 inches. So I emailed Jill about it; here is the substantive part of her reply (italics mine):
Our lengths are "published lengths" [....] our main goal being to make sure the tight portion of the barrel occurs right at the muzzle. This happened to occur very close to 19” on your barrel blank.

So the blank they started with was 20" and ended up cut at 18.75 inches. She offered to replace my barrel with one much closer to 20 inches. Nope. Rifle shoots like it's supposed to. An inch of barrel length was not a priority for me. Everything about ordering, receiving, and owning a Vudoo has been exemplary.

Is there an advantage of buying a fully built rifle vs just the barreled action and putting my own trigger and chassis on it?
Depends.
  • If you already have certain components, of course it makes sense to use them. I'm sure Vudoo will be very forthcoming with advice and caveats if you ask (which seems sensible). When you call Vudoo, a live, knowledgeable person answers the phone. If a machine answers the phone, leave a message and your call will be returned promptly.
  • If you order the complete rifle from Vudoo, you'll have a package whose components are assured to work together. If a problem occurs, the questions of component compatibility and assembly errors outside their control are eliminated.
  • It's been over a year and a half since I got my V22, but my recollection is that ordering the assembled rifle was about the same cost, or slightly less when shipping was considered, as price-shopping and ordering the components separately.
  • Is your time worth any $$? If so, and you need all or most of the components, a complete-rifle order is sensible... also see bullet #2 above.

You can also send some of your components there and they can put it on for you before they ship it out. I had them put on my trigger.

I have a question about rifle weight and balance, less scope. What does an 18" Kukri taper barreled action weigh in an MPA BA chassis? How does it balance? Thanks in advance.

It's not going to balance well. You'll need a full front weight kit. You say less scope, but I mean you're going to be running a scope on the rifle :) I haven't tested it w/o a scope, but I know running a Vortex PST II, Razor AMG, ZCO, it's really back heavy and you'll need a lot of weights up front.

I've got a 22" (actual just over 21") spiral fluted kukri in a mpa ba with the mpa front weight kit.

Still not enough to balance it - need another ~2lbs out front to get balance point ahead of mag well.

Thanks for the speedy replies, much appreciated.

Right now the best balance I can find is a KRG X-Ray/Bravo/Whiskey with weight kit, can get the arca alu foreend too which adds more up front weight too.
I also advise most people to buy a 20" MTU to not have to pay extra $$ for weights.

Ive got a carbon bergara in a xray with arca alum forend and still needed the Tweight to get it to balance at the front of the magwell. Even with that still is a touch rear heavy on most barricades.

I'm partial to the Bravo. I've worked hard and spent a lot of $$$ to get it to balance with an 18" Kukri. Either a 18"+ MTU or a 20"+ Kukri to be safe with the Bravo. BTW, the polymer tool-lees buttpad height mechanism weighs less than two polymer spacers. I've added every weight and add on to the fore end, mine's aluminum, that I've probably got AI chassis money into it. ;) I've added the NV bridge just for the weight. With the bipod and suppressor, it balances really well. It will even balance fairly well w/o the suppressor and bipod only. Without those it tends to be just slightly butt heavy. Throw the Railchanger-X with a schmedium Game Changer on and it's golden.🤠

The Aluminum Arca Foreend adds like 1.5 lbs to the front. Might be worth getting one of those :)

I was about to build a new X-Ray + Aluminum Arca Foreend + Weight up front.

I have the old school aluminum fore end with the add on ARCA rail. In FDE to boot. 🤠

Second day at the range with my new Vudoo. First day was sight in and learn the gun and trigger. About 250 rounds.
My rifle Specifications:
22" Ace barrel in MTU Graphite black
Grayboe Ridgeback stock gray with black spider webbing
Trigger Tech two stage trigger set at 8oz-1lb
20 MOA scope rail
Large Bolt Knob
Athlon Ares ETR 4.5-30X56 scope. 50 yard zero.

Ammo Test:
All shot at 50 yards off a rest. 5 shot groups 5 targets 25 rounds. Another 170 rounds today. Up to 410 now.

Lapua Center-x .336 C-C
SK Standard Plus .339
SK Pistol Match .340
SK Rifle Match .352
SK Long Range .401

Good start. Going Monday to work at 100 yards and 200 yards and get a good Dope. Trying to get a thousand rounds through it as I have a date for the Lapua Test range in Arizona the second week of November.

In the rifle picture under the rest is the tool I use to measure groups and get center to center measurements quickly and can be found here. https://www.sinclairintl.com/shooti...p-measuring-caliper-attachment-prod38778.aspx

I was able to take possession of my Vudoo on Friday. Only got to run one box of SK rifle match through it but it started to look more promising as I neared the end of the box.
My specs:
-Vudoo right handed repeater
-20” Kukri profile fluted Bartlein barrel, I thought I was getting an Ace barrel but I don’t see a reason to complain yet.
-40moa rail holding an Athlon Ares ETR in Seekins rings
-Geissele super 700 two stage trigger
-FDE cerakote
-Currently sitting in my Manners T4a mini chassis until my T6a shows up for this rifle.
-Form 1 suppressor, also have a sparrow but wanted a “to scale” version for my Vudoo.

I was surprised to find that my mini chassis is way off from holding the Vudoo mags to chamber a round. I had to hold up on the magazine to chamber a round so I need to find a new mag catch or use rubber bands until my new stock comes.
Simple target, all 50 rounds that I fired without the suppressor. It will come in to where it should be. The last two groups I shot were the best, I’m excited to get it out again if the rain stops.

These small bags from mystery ranch are pretty awesome for grabbing minimal stuff to go shoot. Holds 5 mags plus two more boxes of ammo plus small miscellaneous items.

Just got this new to me v-22 barreled action.

Vudoo V-22 20" Kukri
Krg Whiskey 3
MDT Ckyepod
Athlon etr ares 4.5-30x56

installed into chassis at 55 in/lbs

So when I received the action this week and installed it in the chassis i noticed if the bolt is closed, decocked or cocked, for a long period of time the very first bolt lift is really hard to lift. Once it has been lifted it cycles smooth like butter. This also happens mag in or mag out. This also happened before it was put into the chassis. Does anyone have any ideas what it might be?

The next issue i noticed was today after taking it out onto the range maybe 2 out of 10 shots of SK Long Range Match would be really hard to feed and push the bolt down. It runs super smooth otherwise. I've only shot SK LRM through it so far.

Has approximately 300ish rounds out of it
I recognize that...
