Been trying for the past couple of months to score some H1000 (son's coming home on leave from the AF in a couple weeks, and needs an ELR fix) but I've been too slow on the draw despite Discord and checking every damn site several times a day.

Did find some Viht N565 and it's inbound, but I'm not sure if I should've gotten N570 instead.
Supposedly the N565 is roughly eq to RL-26, which would make it just a tad faster than H1000- and they state it's "in between" the 560 and 570 but more towards the slower 570.

Anyone with experience using the 565, with 285's and 300's?

From my experience shooting a bunch of different .338LM barrels with Vihtavuori powders, the optimization breaks down like this:

    • N560 is ideal for shooting 250s.
    • N565 is good for 250s and 285s
    • N570 is ideal for 300s
If I had to chose one powder for 250s, 285s, and 300s - it would be N570. But if you're set on shooting 285s, then N565 is a good powder to have.

Probably too late for the OP, but for others that search n570 like I did.

    I am running N570 with 285eldm's. 94.5gr 2,841fps ES 10 SD 5.
It's holding decent groups at 200rds and beyond.

Nice. What brass are you using? I've been using N570 for years now, and with 300 scenars, but never pushed it beyond 88 gr since I was getting bolt lift/stuck bolt with clapped out Lapua brass.

I'm about to break out another batch of new Lapua brass and will be starting development with 285 ELD-M's. I have a ton of N570. Do you suggest just fireforming the first firing with a lighter load and then starting development after the first firing, or should I just try for some initial development on virgin brass?

This is fired out of a Barrett MRAD with over 3500 rounds through the barrel.

    Thanks for sharing.

Wish I had ordered N565 when it was available, but since I was shooting 300's, I wasn't sure if it would be good. I use N570 and it's dirty and meters like turds. I can't find N565 anymore and I have a bunch of 285 ELD-M's now. N565 is a newer formulation and should be a lot cleaner burning than the N570 plus designed for the 250 gr class. Should be fine also for 285's. Let us know how the N565 shoots.

N565 is very similar to R26.

They also announced a new powder, N568.
Basically a slower N565 with smaller kernels like 565.
Sounds promising but I haven’t seen any yet to try.

I really like N570 for my 338 edge, 94-96ish grains does wonders with 265-300 grain bullets.
I haven’t seen N570 to be dirtier than others but I know certain combinations do different things.

It is like Lincoln logs but thankfully my V3 still throws it fairly well.

I was using Lapua. I bought the rifle off a friend with known load data, part of the package was 100 pieces of brass on its 3rd firing. I bought some new to attend an ELR class, the only difference I saw between new vs once fired was higher ES/SD numbers. I don’t subscribe to the lighter charge for first firing with a known load for that barrel/throat. But starting a load work up with new brass can give you fucky numbers, I’ll get a firing on some then start load developement.

Since this is still alive- we did have excellent results with the 565- better than Retumbo and H1000.
Pretty identical results with either 285 ELD-Ms and 300 A-Tips at the target with the same loads.

Now, of course, can't find any more of the 565.

@LANCER You must be due for a new barrel!

Broughton barrel here on a single shot actioned 338 Lapua Ackley Improved

H1000 for fireforming and VV N570 w 300 grain bullets, when available.

Wish they sold both in 20lb kegs, and were readily available because of the cartridges voracious appetite.

If you have success w the newer VV powders please post back.
