I bought a Dead Air Mask last year. 6 months later I bought a TBAC Ultra 9. I'm hooked and I want to suppress everything. What platform should I consider for shooting suppressed 9mm? I'm leaning towards a PCC. No SBRs. It will mostly be used as a range toy, but don't take that to mean I'm indifferent towards reliability. I would like to keep it under $2,000 not including optics. LRBHO is ideal.

Do you reload? What ammo will you shoot? Not all Factory 147gr will stay subsonic from a 16" barrel.

If no SBR l, what about pistol brace? Keeping the barrel short makes for a much better balance and feel.

I'd go with this:
It is radial delayed blowback, so quieter and safer than the simple blowbacks. Glock mags and they offer buffer weights to tune performance.

Pick a barrel length based on how much handguard you want to hold and mount stuff on.
3-lug muzzle and dot sight gets it done.

If going CMMG make sure it is the new fixed ejector version. The AR style spring ejector bolt has proven to be unreliable after 300-500 rds. Have one myself and can confirm it is a dud. Switched over to the PSA AR-V pistol with a Maxim Roller Delayed Buffer system. It uses 35 rd Scorpion style mags and they can be had pretty cheap through Magpul, PSA and used CZ. The only down side to the delayed buffer is the initial charging effort. About 30 lbs of force is needed to cycle the buffer. I use an over sized charging handle and it is not bad. Much smoother shooting than straight blowback actions. Mine is an 8" pistol with YHM R9 suppressor.

I'm running the CMMG DISSENT 9mm 10.5" and I honestly couldn't be happier.

Excellent accuracy and my PWS BDE Ti 45 works excellent.

The only downside I have now is because it doesn't utilizes a full length carrier my FRT-15L3 triggers are non compatible.

Everything I've ran through it has been 100% reliable. With the Winchester 147 Super Suppressed ammo I'm getting 2" groups at 50 yard with a Holosun Greed Dot.

My Scorpion Evo has been 100% reliable, but admittedly it’s a plastic toy with a heavy bolt.

Pew Pew is all it ever says….except for the tinkle of brass raining from the ejection port.

Man, you sound like me. I started with a 5.56 suppressor, just to "take the edge off" for times when I couldn't always wear hearing protection. Now ... I don't want to shoot unsuppressed. 9mm is great suppressed. It's cheap and has enough thump to satisfy that itch.

I'd try to stick with a shorter barrel for two reasons. 1, a rig can get long and unwieldy and just not as much fun. 2, too much barrel and some 147s will get to supersonic. Or worse, you're blinking along suppressed and not attracting attention, then hit that hot round and it goes super sonic.

There was a mention above of sticking to the CMMG model with the fixed ejector. I don't agree. As far as I know, all of the fixed ejector models are straight blow back and straight blow back is not what you want.

I'd look into some flavor of delayed blow back. Either radial or roller delayed and I'm not talking about any contraption that has the delay mechanism built into the buffer. The buffer deal is a PITA.

What I wanted was something that I could abuse, was simple and when it broke, I could get parts for. I put one together using a radial blowback setup from CMMG. Their barrel and bolt carrier group. Mine has seen thousands upon thousands of rounds and runs well. I don't know about the problems people had with the ejector. It's probably real, but when I got mine, I replaced the extractor and ejector springs like I do in all of my BCGs and I never had a problem.

Read through this thread before you commit. Not sure why CMMG is still selling the old style ejector in bolt setup when they are basically denying warranty support. I got a new spring, problem persisted. Got a new updated bolt, same ejection problem. From my communications it felt like my free fixes were running out. Never installed the new bolt. I just need to sell the bolt carrier, barrel and multiple Endo mags. They claim there will be an amnesty for those who bought into the first RDB setup but new orders will have to be filled first.

If you haven't looked at them yet, Id check out the Mean Arms. Might be a bitch to find or get one because they are kinda taking over the comp pcc scene. But its a bearing delayed upper. Ive been impressed with it so far but haven't put enough through it to really say if its reliable or not. Ive heard good things from others that have them tho. I like them alot because its still the Ar platform.

@OP, there's a lot to discuss with 9mm PCCs or SBRs or whatever you want to call them. I mentioned the radial delayed blowback rig that I out together to tell you what my experience was, which was positive. For me, it was quick and easy to put together. It turned out to shoot well,, but is an example of one.

If I was wholly committed to the 9mm, I probably would have gone a different route, but would have had to spend a lot more money. If money was no object, I would have gotten into some flavor of roller delayed blowback system.

It's hard to beat the mpx all around for me but the MP5 will always be king of the hill. There's a bunch of good options these days but some type of delayed blowback would be a must for me.
Delayed, and non-reciprocating.

Don't get me wrong, I love shooting PCCs with suppressed subs (or even better the Banshee in .45), but it is still a rifle and you're walking around with a rifle even if it's pistol caliber. I really like the concealability of the pistols while sacrificing none of the firepower.

The SP9A3 Stribog (or Scorpion and the other true braced pistols) is teeny-tiny without the suppressor and the whale tail collapsed. I can fit the pistol, the suppressor, and six 30 round mags in a very small Grey Ghost Scarab, that looks like it would barely hold a laptop.

Pick a totally non-tactical, non-camo color for added camouflage and you can walk anywhere and no one would ever have any idea. It can be pulled out, charged and ready to go in about 15seconds.

IMHO this is the most enormous amount of firepower you can fit in an entirely unobtrusive and stealth package that would allow you to stroll almost anywhere and no one would have any idea.

I'll grant you that I put this package together for more than a range toy, but it's just as fun and easy to shoot at the PCCs. I wanted the most firepower I could get and fully conceal. Honestly, it's so small that no one would ever suspect it, and far less suspect than a violin or guitar case.
