The mark 4s are nice scopes. Very durable. 1500 yards is probably the very limits of x14 though. The rule of thumb I've always heard is about x1 mag per 100 yards. Unless it's paper targets. Then more mag the better :)

I'd be wary of building an ar-10. They don't have the same parts interchangeability as ar-15s.

Off the top of my head, Nightforce has scopes that can be had in the 750-1200 range and they're rock solid. SWFA has scopes from 280-1500 and they're solid across the board.
