    Gunsmithing A Real Gunsmith Question

To be honest I get tired of music about half the time and switch over to talk radio and podcasts. Been listening to a lot of TED talks and Dave Ramsey.

    Gunsmithing A Real Gunsmith Question

What music do you listen to while chambering??? I have gone the gambit and keep coming to the conclusion that Classic Country is what I want to listen but it is just too mellow and feel like I should be just hanging out. Now I listen to some stuff that is hard enough to keep the attitude of...

Gunsmithing Reaming 260 Rem to 6.5 SAUM

If you have it to cut, it would be best in this situation to make sure that pilot is riding in the bore before any cutting is done. Sure you can do it like you have it now, but if you need to ask the questions then just play it safe and cut of however much needed to for the pilot to do its job...

Recommend a rifle to learn on? And why a PF action?

One of the big benefits to going with a Remington 700 is the availability of used aftermarket parts. Just look through the For Sale section and you will see that there is no shortage of used 700 parts for some really great deals. No would would tell you that the 700 is the perfect platform for...

Gunsmithing Thinking about changing shipping boxes

We have been using the cheap Plano cases and I am not all that happy with them. I would like to find something with a little more protection.

Gunsmithing Thinking about changing shipping boxes

Rifle AR15 Shipping Boxes Foam Lined | Foam-Lined Gun Boxes Thinking about switching over to these boxes for shipping rifles. I have never been that impressed with shipping in plastic cases. Any of you guys use them and can shed some light on the subject. Thanks Russell

why does no one us 30-06

No doubt that it is a ballistic advantage over the standard 308 but compare that same type of hot load to a 280, 284, 6.5-06, 6.5-284 and you get 10-20" less drift at 1000. So those looking for a ballistic advantage usually don't stop halfway and settle on the 30-06 unless they want to shoot...

why does no one us 30-06

Mainly because there isn't a whole lot of advantage over the 308. when most people are looking for something better than the 308 they tend to want the best ballistics they can get with the least amount of recoil and the 30-06 doesn't really fit into that category.

Just Hear Me Out, Ideas/Opinions Welcome.

I would look at a 223AI. you can use a smaller 223 can to keep weight down (and give you a reason to buy another can) and the recoil is next to nothing. When you want to put a bunch of rounds down range, pick up some 55 FMJ's and 2 MOA targets and go to town. When you want to really reach out...

    Match Rifle Build

The 260 is an awesome round to get you into tactical comps. Sure you will be giving up something to the guys shooting a 243 or 6CM, but you will have almost twice the barrel life. Remember a lot of the guys in the PRS matches are looking to get every advantage they can and don't mind paying...

    6.5x284 still as relevant?

the 6.5-284 is just so hard on barrels if you plan to use it often. For most guys that shoot steel that is a deal breaker. When we go out to shoot we want to be able to shoot and not worry about killing 10%-15% of the barrel that day.... I would look at the 284, 280 and 280AI if you want to...

    Remington 700 .308 18.5"

Hey Keith, I would say 11.25" unless you have any ideas of trying to shoot the really heavy subsonic stuff. It is a gives you the ability to shoot a good variety of bullet styles and weights. Your velocity won't change much at all and at the distances you are wanting to shoot I would go as...

    Rechamber/Rebarrel help

I can't tell you how many customers come back after building the rifle that they "almost wanted". I know that we are all on a budget and we have to live with in that budget, but from my experience, you need to to either save up to buy what you really want and or sell stuff to get it. all that...

Fresh Paint for my shorty 6.5!

I get customers asking me all the time about shorty 6 and 6.5's and I always show them about this rig with the targets you had sent me. As long as you are willing to give up the speed, they sure do make a handy light recoiling rifle. It turned our really nice with the new paint.

    SSC- Maine's newest .308

Steve I can't always remember which we ended up with as there might have been 1 or 2 changes to the build as we went (cough....cough.....). Steve thanks again for the build, like I said before it turned out great. I have been meaning to do a write on how we cut the foam. I will try and get...

    SSC- Maine's newest .308

Sometimes it is hard to ship a rifle that turns out just like you want it. I have to tell you, if I was building a .308 for myself it would look a heck of a lot like this one. What started out as a small SPS tactical package turned into a full blown custom rig. This handy little .308 is headed...

    Bushnell Mile dimension

couldn't find the dimension of the different Bushnell Mile's. I like the idea of 12x binos just don't want a huge step up in size. Weight difference is pretty similar so they can't be too much larger.
