Why the stock you have on your rifle?

Re: Why the stock you have on your rifle? Manners T5A. I have used thumbhole stocks for a lot of years because I find them easy to carry and easy to shoot from most positions. I chose Manners because it fits me better than the alternitive thumb hole stocks.

Show Me/Tell me bout your Switch Barrel Rifles!!!!

Re: Show Me/Tell me bout your Switch Barrel Rifles!!!! Don't forget; when you change the caliber you need to have your scope settings written down some place. I have .308, 6.5x47, 22/250 Ackley and 243 Ackley all fitted to the same action. The reality is that the .243 and 22/250 Ackley...

What calibers can I rebarrel from a .30-06 700 BDL

Re: What calibers can I rebarrel from a .30-06 700 BDL The bolt face for a 30-06 is .470 and for a .257 Weatherby it is .540. I don't know if a good rifle smith would want to open the bolt face that much, and there might be extractor issues as well. You might look at some of the Ackley or...

New Lapua brass, can you just reload it?

Re: New Lapua brass, can you just reload it? Short answer; you can just load it up, fire form and then go through your case prep. Trim to length, ream primer pocket to same depth, is about all I worry about with Lapua .308. Because Lapua cases are a little thicker than most, I always use a...

Range Report Why do some old guys know it all??? LOL

Re: Why do some old guys know it all??? LOL When I was 19, I was the smartest person I knew. By the time I turned 40, I began to realize that I was just barely smart enough to recognize how dumb I truly am. Now that I am 65, I tend to do a lot more listening and learning. I get some real...

    KREIGER Barrels VS HART Barrels

Re: KREIGER Barrels VS HART Barrels I've had a whole bunch of both on match, varmint and deer rifles and never had a complaint about either. As long as you pick the right person to fit and chamber your barrel it's pick'em.

    Range Report Vertical dispertion problem

Re: Vertical dispertion problem Rthur, It is not uncommon to have vertical dispersion due to poor bag handling, scope issues or inconsistency in torque for your action screws. I seem to run into the problem more frequently with a bipod than bags. Considering that you are using FGMM you...

Gunsmithing Shilen barrels are second to none

Re: Shilen barrels are second to none Back in the day Shilen barrels led the pack at the NBRSA Nationals as they did at most shoots west of the Mississippi. Conversely, Hart led the pack at the IBS nationonals and most shoots in the East. I believe the barrel you shot had more to do with the...

Re: .30BR dreamin' Contact Randy Robinette at www.bibullets.com or 515.795.2906. I believe Randy knows more than anyone about the .30br. He was the guy that took all the heat from people who said it would never work and now it is as popular on the VFS circut as the 6ppc is with the group...

    Hart Barrels

Re: Hart Barrels Great barrels. I have been using them for 40 years on bench rest rigs, deer rifles, and varmint rigs. I have never had a bad Hart or Kreiger barrel. Just make certain you have the best person you can find to do the fitting and chambering for you.

Rifle Scopes NIghtforce Scopes - Benchrest vs tactical

Re: NIghtforce Scopes - Benchrest vs tactical You will see the varmint/BR scope on a lot of 1,000 yd, BR guns because of the 1/8" clicks. The double dot reticle is also a great reticle for fixed long range target shooting. You rarely see them on the short range br rifles because of the...

    Manners GAT vs T5 opinions

Re: Manners GAT vs T5 opinions The T5A is a much beefier stock than the GAT. I personally like the 2.4" beavertail forend on the T5A over the 1.7" on the GAT. Like many others I find the thumb hole configuration to be the most comfortable I have owned and I am a fan of thumbhole stocks even...

    ideal rifle weight

Re: ideal rifle weight I had a Rem700, milspec 5r, that with optics weighed 10lbs after I cut the barrel to 21". It balanced well, shot well (175 FGM averaged .500, 5 shot groups) , and in my opinion was the perfect weight. Unfortunately, dumb ass that I am, I sold it last Fall.
