I shot a bunch of Black Hills factory ammo and am using the Win brass they load. I worked up a great load with Dan Newberry's help. I also load 6.5x55 in Lapua brass. If I were starting over, I would start with Lapua.
Surgikill: you are using your Dillon as a single stage? Have you tried dropping powder and seating bullets progressively on the 550 to compare results? I tried loading 308 on my 550 but couldn't get consistent headspace. Never tried it with the collet die though...
I believe the M72 used 168 gr bullets. If you are running 175s faster than the 168 factory load, that's probably your issue. I would try again at 45 or 46 grs What's your rifle and barrel length and twist?
On a Dillon RL550, I have a toolhead set up for 45 ACP and want a second dedicated to 9mm. I was thinking about Lee Pass Through Expander die, Uniquetek Adapter and Lee Perfect Powder measure rather than buying a second Dillon Powder Measure. Anyone using that set up? Thanks and Happy New...
Good news! I just bought 1k betting on the come. But I already had good success with the 136 and 220s so not too much gamble there. Thanks for your post. Anybody loading these with 4064?
Yes, I send my FL dies to Forster to hone them to the same neck size as the correct bushing. Adjust headspace with a redding comp shell holder and done.
I started neck sizing my 300 Win. Started with a .329 bushing and switched to a .331. Now I have about 75 cases of each neck size. Is there an easy way to give them all the same bullet pull? Neck size the 331s to 329? Run them through a Sinclair expander mandrel? Carbide sizing button? Lee...
Revolver loads are rolled crimped. Taper crimping is for pistols which headspace on the case mouth. On my Dillon, the powder station bells the mouth, then I seat the bullet into the belled mouth and finish with a taper crimp.
I use benchmark in 556 with 69 Grs bullets and it is excellent. I think it would be too fast for medium weight 308 bullets (175s). I use varget there. Maybe lighter 30 cal pills would be ok with benchmark. I just read an article comparing powders for 223 and 308 in different bullets. I will try...
I shot a box in 6.5x55 and it was excellent. Including ES and SD. I had already bought a bunch of lapua brass, tho, so I have no plans to reload the ppu in the Swede. I did load it in 556 a couple years ago and it seemed to work fine, run and gun ammo.
I don't load that caliber, but you might load each powder to see which one gets you the most velocity before pressure signs. If you have a chrono. 5 rds each maybe.
