Increasing Barrel length from 23.5" to 26" -308Win

If I changed my barrel for a 26" how much could I increase muzzle velocities by?

My loads don't make it to 1000 yards supersonic and I thought a bit of extra barrel might help?

What would I have to do to achieve that? I have loaded with RL 15 and RL17 with various bullet weights. I assume I basically have to use a slow powder, fill the case up and select a bullet with a high BC?

As you can tell I am a bit lost so advice is welcome !!

What kind of bullet are you using? And what is your load? People are getting way out there with a lot shorter barrel then 26 or 23".

The only bullet that should have any trouble getting to 1k is the 168 SMK, that is a function of the bullet, not the barrel though.

I have zero issues getting my 20" to 1000.

But, to answer the question...not much. I would guess the most you could hope for is 40 fps...and that is a stretch. What kind of speeds are you getting now?

I'm getting 2750 with a 175 out of a 22" bbl. That's 1300FPS at 1K. I would like to know what your getting at the muzzle and what bullet

2750 on a 175 ?!!

I am getting 2600 on a 168 gr Amax. Sounds like I need more load development rather than more barrel.

What load is delivering that? Looks like I am not pushing the load hard enough, and I have the wrong bullet.

I have a sako 75 with a 1:11 twist so I assume (??) it would favour a heavier bullet?

Whats your load info for getting a 175 out at that velocity?

22" .308 DTA SRS 155 L, case Lapua, Russian primer, IMR 8208 xbr
2920 fps 8.4 mils at 1000 yds sea level. IMO why go longer these day with the improvement in powders. In a 22" with same powder, at ses level, 175 SMK 2700+ FPS no presure sighs

I use 44 Varget. 2.805 COAL

it's a krieger bbl. KMW built the rifle. You might not be able to get the same speeds. This rifle for some reason runs pretty fast in comparison to some if the other guys I shoot with.
