Nothing special but hoping that it will shoot better than my older tactical rifle. Remington 700 action, 28 inch Obermeyer barrel (1/11 twist, AMU contour), PRT F/TR stock (with one of Alex Sitmans 3-way adjustable buttplates to save weight), Centershot bipod (again to save weight) and a NF NXS 12-42x56 mounted in Murphy Precision titanium rings and bases, again trying to save weight and overall it worked. Rifle weighs 17.2, allowing some room for a longer barrel if this one doesn't shoot. Pictures aren't that great, but you get the overall picture.

8.25 kg (~18.18 lb) for F-T/R; 10 kg (~22 lb) for F-Open.

Nice looking rig ya got there. I particularly appreciate the longer foregrip; I would have never guessed it was a 28" pipe if you hadn't stated it. The stock is really well-proportioned for the metalwork.

Okie, haven't actually shot the rifle as configured, broke the barrel in, no real load development as yet. I have 155 smks, 155 lapuas, 185 Berger bts and alot of 180 jlks on hand, for powder varget, re-15, re-17 and vv550. Going to try them all and see what happens, chamber is 95 palma match, so that's a limiter. I really like the longer forend, I think its going to be a real bonus when I get a longer barrel. The stocks ergonomics are great, its very comfortable to lie behind..

Re: My new 308 F/TR build

I'd lose my mind trying to do load development with that many powders and bullets.

I think the question will be heavies or 155s, then find a powder that works best. Then does it work as well as Varget over temperature ranges?

I'm thinking that I may end up working up two bullets for conditions. By the numbers it looks to me like I get better wind numbers from the 185s than I do from the 155s but I want to sdo some testing and see if the flatter trajectory buys anything keeping lower to the trees and possibly more out of the wind on some ranges. Hey, it's my crackpot theory, I want to work on it.

Re: My new 308 F/TR build

Monte thanks, it been a pain and a long wait, originally ordered an XLR stock and it wouldn't fit, so I called Ray Bowman and he thought I would be over the weight when finished if I got one of his completed stocks, so I got the stock from him just semi-inletted with the cheekpiece installed. I called Alex Sitman and he told me his 3-way buttplate only weighed 1.2 lbs. In the end up it really worked, I have some weight to play with, I think the rifle should shoot decently. As for the missing barrel nut, I never claimed to be smart, just ask my wife. If anyone was to ask me about shooting f-class, I would without doubt suggest the Savage Model 12 F/TR if they were starting out, it really has it all, (if I had only thought for a second before I started down the build path) another example of not being smart. XTR, with regards to powders and bullets, I have enough of Steve bullets on hand to last quite a few matches, but I figured what the hell and I would give everything I had on hand a whirl and just see what pans out, another example of being a sucker for punishment. Luckily only last week, I found an immaculate Oehler 35P for a song at a local pawn shop, so hopefully it will help in deciding what combination will work best.

Re: My new 308 F/TR build

Very nice looking rig. Had Alex do one of my stocks 2 years ago, workmanship was impeccable. I have run both the 155 Scenars and 175 SMK's, at 600 they both shot very well. The 185 Bergers are a great bullet, might work better at 1K. I have had no luck with RL17 in my .308's, poor accuracy, low velocity: maybe I'm doing something wrong but RL15 & varget seem to work best.
Centershot bipod. Need to check this out, have a Remple that is great, looks just like this one except in footprint area.

Re: My new 308 F/TR build

Darrell, I got so much different ammo loaded for it, its silly. Going to my in-laws next week, going set up a target in the back yard at 300 and start looking at what works best, and next year I am going to shoot it every month,or twice a month.
