Looking for some suggestions for a backup scope to my Minox ZP5 mr4 that I can also run on my rimfire for practicing. Ideally would like to stay around $1500 plus or minus a couple hundred. Beyond tracking etc the first priority is a good eye box as I have occasional difficulty aligning glasses (contacts generally alleviate but can’t always wear). The Minox is awesome in this regard for reference it much easier at 20-25x than my swfa he 3-9 at 9x. I would like at least ffp 15x. Must easily resolve 22lr paper punching to at least 100meters. Reticle similarities are a plus but behind the other requirements.
Been looking at:

Vudu 3.5-18 (can’t find info on eyebox)

Cronus BTR (seems intriguing)

Mark 5HD (seems uncertain in min parallax for 22lr use)

Vortex amg (would push budget so likely would require selling something else)

Maybe a sightron sv whenever they are available
Am I missing an obvious option? Any insights on eyebox flexibility of those listed as I have yet to find any to see first hand.

Mark 5 has 75 parallax, at least the 5-25 model does. So, you can cross that off your list. I don’t know much about eotech.

At that price point, you’re looking at

Athlon Cronus btr it Ares ETR

Vortex AMG or Viper pst gen 2

I’d stretch the budget to an amg if it were me.

Preference for FFP or SFP?

AMG is all around excellent, and probably can be picked up in PX for around your budget. It would be my personal top suggestion. FWIW it's what I run on mine.

The sightron STAC is also quite nice (for the price point) if it's just for punching paper.

Only looking at ffp: vortex amg is definitely one of the highest on my list as well as Cronus. Amg just pushes my budget and I have no personal experience with Athlon for durability. Seems to get good reviews on here though. Whichever I go with I want to be useful for a spare scope on other center fire rifles as I currently have more rifles than scopes.

Either of those should be fine. The vortex is a very well reviewed optic.

If you can save a bit more or don’t mind selling something, the kahles 525i is about the top of the tier when it comes to .22 to centerfire crossover. 20m parallax, skmr3 reticle and whichever side you want your windage on.

Not trying to push you out of your budget, but if you can stretch it, you won’t regret it.

Do you have a timeframe limitation, or are you just shopping for an eventual buy?
I have the new Sightron 4.5-24, it is a very dandy scope, but many of their products seem to be unobtanium right now.
It will focus down to 13 yards, has an awesome reticle...But... no zero stop (they are fixing that and expect to have it next year.
Are you a mil/mil or moa/moa guy?
You may want to look at the SIII 6-24. The only downer is 5 mils per turn and no ZS on the mil models (available on the moa models (go figure).

I would love the kahles but then would definitely need to sell one of my high end ars to make that possible which doesn’t seem to be a great market right now. I am a mil/mil guy, zero stop is a plus but not required if turrets have obvious markings to keep track (not a fan of odd number per turn etc especially if it takes 15 mil for 22 to 300). Looking within a few weeks so don’t really want to wait for unobtainium.

It sounds like AMG is what you should be looking at, since that is the scope you clearly would prefer given an opportunity.

There are usually a few used ones for sale in the classifieds that are close to your price range. I am probably going to put mine up in there soon, simply because I am making space for new stuff that I will be looking at closer to SHOT.

Aside from that, Athlon Cronus and Delta Stryker are probably your best bet in the $1500-$1700 range.
