Kicking Ass Somewhere
Just back from Beaumont, man the road pirate to civilian ratio is about 1 cop to every 6 cars, they want your property , your money, and your freedom, its a veritable goddamn police state we live in as we celebrate this independence day. Sad

It's a shame, I hardly want to go anywhere on the holidays because like you said, it's like being part of herd trying to cross the crocodile infested river.

you guys are going to the wrong spots.

Possibly but if I try to make it out to my favourite range in West Texas on a holiday it is a bit surreal, it actually feels like being on the savannah as you drive along the long straight highway and in the distance hiding under a pair of trees on the side of the highway is like 3 state troopers all waiting for a feeding frenzy. Some time ago it had gotten so bad that I actually didn't go shooting for a couple years. Recently it's been a bit better as I guess it turned into not so profitable of a hunting ground.

yup been there seen the money jackals

Hmmm.
Driving the 310 today headed to see my buddy Cajun (really, thats what we nicknamed him when he lived in CO years ago) saw 2 cops stopped with lights on signaling and helping folks change tires.
Another with a big rig pulled over.

I agree many just are about tickets and making money.
Some are good.

There is a great Trooper with CSP who I worked with a lot of times between the FD and ED. Told me once he decided to go a month with no speeding tickets to see how long it would take before he was talked to....... less than 2 weeks.
Only wrote for accidents and driving impaired.

One of my favs to this day. Honorable is a great descriptor

Nah down town Beaumont, Elenas Tex Mex, my favorite Tex Mex Joint, period.

there might be people from vidor there, if you are racially sensitive be warned you might be the only white devil in the joint.

While I agree there are a lot of revenue stops, any idea how many drunks will be out on the highway on the 4th? I hope they catch them all.

They use to be called an were "Peace officers" until the elected found out they could add to the coffers. One of the reasons they hate people who compete with them in taking out the trash. As the trash being the trash an doing what trash does, allows them to steal more money from the tax payer to supposedly protect said tax payer. When the fact is long ago the vigilantes keep the trash in check all the way around, more so than Peace Officers.

If cops were serious about safety they would be pulling over tailgaters, people who camp in the leftmost lane, people texting (they are stupidly easy to spot) and assholes who force their way through traffic.

But I never see them doing any of that.

In many states, especially places like Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, I agree. Here in Virginia they seem a pretty well trained and decent lot. And they do watch for that shit...its somewhat of a slippery slope...If they over enforce they get shit on, if they under enforce they get shit on.

If tailgating isn't a violation of the transportation code, then they can't pull someone over for it.
For example, in Texas, there is a transportation code violation "following too closely", however, every prosecutor you talk to will tell you that it can't be proven, unless they run into someone.

I have seen folks get pulled over for camping in the left lane, some places STRICTLY enforce it.

For the likes of Army etc..., how about go out and work a couple of alcohol related fatalities. It MIGHT just change your perception of allowing folks to drive drunk.

Tailgating (by any name) is a traffic violation in all 50 states. I don't need to read every state's code to make that extrapolation.

That's a completely different issue. I could say the same with speeding, since no verifiable evidence remains after the speed measurement device is cleared.

I have never, ever seen it in my life.

Texting while driving is a violation is a significant number of states, including mine.

Not because he was a government armed gent but because he was a male American and was there otherwise I dont think schools should have cops in them at all, its a conditioning step to make the next generation more obedient little slaves.

But you bitch because Scot Peterson didnt rush into the school in Parkland....

Hell, here in Oklahoma, unless your'e being super stupid on the road, it's hard to pulled over. I once found a drunk in a ditch trying to get people passing by to pull him out so he could continue. OHP and OKCPD were arguing over where he was located (highway on ramp or side street) because neither wanted to come out to it. The kicker to me is, there is a county sheriff that lives about 2 miles away from the scene. And the sheriff's department won't write speeding tickets because OHP gets most of the money. I know some LEs from all of the agencies, and it's a messed up situation out here.

What about sexting while driving?
If you are a cop you can run over and kill a bicyclists in the bike lane. While typing an email while driving. And get off scott free.

Bunch of hypocrites. Pull people over for taking on phone or texting and then drive off taking texting and emailing.

At least it keeps them occupied I guess.

Odd, I just informed you that "tailgating" is not articulated in the Texas transportation code.

That's a completely different issue. I could say the same with speeding, since no verifiable evidence remains after the speed measurement device is cleared.

True, but the evidence was witnessed by the Officer by a proven measuring device that is regularly checked for accuracy. How do you articulate evidence of tailgating?

I have never, ever seen it in my life.

I have.

Texting while driving is a violation is a significant number of states, including mine.
But, not all.
again, as an example, in Texas, texting is illegal but dialing your phone to make a call is not.
How do you prove that the person was texting and not calling someone?
You could request consent to check their device, but if they refuse, what then?

Lol, everything is unconstitutional like everything is racist.

So no laws or officials to enforce them?

Anarchy and vigilante justice i suppose?
Yeah nothing unconditional about gun laws or all those violations of the forth that you guys love.

Weight stations and pulling over trucks over 3/4 ton for zero reason is completely unconstitutional. So is checking hunters with zero probable cause.

you have no laws being enforced right now, hilary walks free

the people we pay to enforce the constitutional laws are trying to conduct coups, and subjugating the Citizenry under a black boot or an oxford.

Our government is conducting vigilante justice against the citizenry right this very moment.

Lol, everything is unconstitutional like everything is racist.

I already pulled over someone today and gave them a warning to stop driving like an idiot.
"Sir, you seriously need to drive better."

Excellent.
Around here a few drivers could use with being pulled over and told that.

The funny thing is that when the roads are nice and clear because there is less traffic than normal for a holiday, the idiots drive 3x as crazy/mean/aggressive/insane/who knows what was going on in that brain or if there is one.

It's crazy to watch, Bright sunny day, clear open road with hardly any traffic....
People drive like a demon bent on destroying anything and everything just took full control of them.

You know... I'm conflicted about that....
Stupid bicycle riders here love to just camp out in the lane in the middle of rush hour and block everything and feel so smug about their little stretch pants..... If somebody were to happen to have an accident with them... well I just might be looking elsewhere at a bird... and my dashcam seems to malfunction at the strangest times (actually true).....

"In the bike lane". It was CA and the bike was in a bike specific lane

I used to wear stretchy pants!
When I was stationed in the Philippines, I rode a bicycle all over the place. I rode from Olongapo to GuaGua, Pampanga once.
I got far more respect as a mode of transportation there than I ever did in the US.
I took great care to operate my bike as a vehicle, as is required. Rode as far to the right as practical, still got run off the road intentionally.

Our local PD put out a reminder that shooting fireworks is illegal and 5 people have died from fireworks (timeframe not specified), and to leave fireworks to the professionals.

I took a good bit of offense to that and sent back a bit of a rant about how y'all need to go back to fucking Britain if you want to live in a world where everything is illegal.
