So the last two purses I got my wife have broken prematurely. She's not too happy about it, and I'm not happy about paying ridiculous prices for overseas made crap. This time, I'm not F'ing around so I'm getting her something like this:

MultiCam Tactical Messenger Bag - RUSH Delivery | 5.11 Tactical

I prefer something with a lifetime warranty and made in USA. I'm willing to pay for it, it'll still be cheaper than a "coach" bag.

Also, if[when] she hates it and won't use it, it becomes mine, so the more grenade/claymore/magazine pouches it has the better. Multicam or Woodland digital preferred.

Any suggestions? Or companies to look at?

What about a kifaru urban zippy or koala lite?

But it's probably just a trap. I complain about broken rifles when I want to "upgrade"...

It's absolutely a trap. That's why I want to buy something tactical since she's complaining about durability so much.

I like the one VJJ listed. I found this too:
Active Shooter Bag

Although if I were to seriously buy her a bag, the ones listed by kosmos look ideal. But ouch pricey.

Look at Redoxx manufacturing. Not much selection in purses, but made in US (MT) and their stuff holds up. They will replace it if it doesn't -forever. My kid could break an anvil with a q-tip. Bought him a book bag from Redoxx and it is still like new a year later.

My wife's COACH bags have always impressed me. Built like the finest of holsters or saddles.

I'd vote COACH. Go online and there are OUTLETS that have some far less than RETAIL deals.

D&B would be my 2nd choice.

Make sure it is very large and warm, that way you can use it to cover you as you sleep on the porch!

You are a glutton for punishment to even acknowledge she has a purse. IF you buy it; "It will always be your fault" later, no matter what.

Dealing with womens purses is the curse of the devil. You can never win. Give her the money and stand back.

The point of this purchase, is to show her I know she's trying to trick me into buying her more stuff. If I buy something tacticool and impractical, that'll get the point across.

Im going to end up sleeping in ye doghouse anyways from one thing or other, might as well have some fun for it this time.

I stumbled upon Coronado Leather out of San Diego, and have been completely impressed. Bought one for my wife, and another for my mother. Both ladies love them.

CXL Case#1 - Designing and crafting premium leather goods since 1981

Coronado CXL Handbag #8 - Designing and crafting premium leather goods since 1981

They both fail the crossover criteria for man use, but they are the toughest bags I have ever come across. The company started out manufacturing concealment leather, and most of the ladies products have "packing" provisions.

I guess you have not been married very long if you think that tactic will work. Just let her buy whatever she wants (and can afford) as she will be pissed if you get her some "military" style bag over a nice handbag unless she routinely dresses like G.I. Jane. My wife has more high-end hand bags than I have firearms and that is saying something; however, I would never purchase a bag for her without her input just like I would not want her to bring home an expensive rifle without first talking to me. JMHO but stay with what you know and leave the handbags to the ladies.......unless you know more about handbags than firearms but that would be TMI for the forum.

I didn't read all this, but have you taken a look at Coronado Leather? Women's Store - Designing and crafting premium leather goods since 1981 They made my wife's purse, it was about $300something all said and done, and she loves it. I think it's the "Belt Stitched Savannah Hobo". She got the extra key chain/tab too. She got the rather larger one of the bunch they sell in brown and very dark brown/almost black leather, and it'll hold a LOT of shit IMO, including an Ipad or my netbook. Heavy leather straps, heavy brass hardware, heavy stitching; it's very well made and if you're into quality holsters like Milt Sparks and Mitch Rosen and such, you'll appreciate the quality of these purses as well.

Anyway, they come in all sorts and styles and colors (within reason, they ain't Prada) these won't fall apart (wife had same problem as yours, not anymore) and these purses also conceal a handgun in the middle; most of them will easily conceal a full size pistol or 4" large frame revolver. I believe my wife's bag can hold even longer ones. And none of it shows in the regular portion of the purse, as it's accessed from the outside front or rear.

We looked at other purse holsters (because that's what she was looking for in particular) but none were built nearly as well as these were, and some looked almost disposable or childish. If you want a nicer purse (that's also a holster) you'll have to modify something from the Nordstrom's catalog, and good luck, because yes, I was forced to look down that path and it wasn't promising. If you want something tougher than Coronado, you may have to consider those mail saddle bags for horses, because I don't think they can make a purse much tougher than these without resorting to that kind of handiwork. And that's not too feminine to say the least.

Whether or not she carries, the bag was designed to offer long service to someone who does, and so they're built to handle more abuse than your regular purse. If she does carry in it, I'd advise modifying a holster of choice for that weapon and installing it inside the purse pocket (easy to do and it makes for better carry and draw). Again, extremely well made leather and all kinds of choices. Check 'em out. Oh, and they'll also do custom work too if you ask, within reason I believe. Good luck, but I don't think you can go wrong here if you're after leather.

I tried once to buy my other half a handbag... not a great idea.. she just said,if,if, next time you wanna buy a bag for me it's spelt ... Hermès.... and they cost as much as your AI complete.... I never bothered again...
Though I do remember one xmas as a kid my dad got my mum (mom) a box of wood chisels....she said wtf I'm going to do with them... he replied, I thought they'd come in useful..
Needless to say those two were not a great advert for happiness or gift buying...... (true he did buy 'em)

First: I can't believe purses are a subject of discussion.
Second: my wife has had a (gun toten mamas) purse for 3 years looks like new is fashionable and she still likes it, even though I saw her eyeing some new ones same brand at the store a few weeks ago.

hell, some of them are more $ than most of the rifles you see here. including mine (rifle that is).

i was going to also toss into the mix tory burch, but they are a bit dainty and not as well suited for use like the coach or dooney, IMO the dooney has more interior / exterior pockets, styles, colors and textures that help conceal the 1911 and larger framed pistols rather easily (if carrying) along with plenty of room for other daily needs.

i remember first starting out in deer hunting with archery equipment, i used a louis vuitton knock off tote the wife didn't use anymore that carried my tree steps and other things rather well for 2-3 years, though it didn't match my footwear :)

with all the other off the wall stuff that's discussed, why not purses?

it is after all the SHTF-zombie-apocalyptic-survival-bug-out bag of the "pink" and you can always find a stick of gum or a tampon in them.

I agree and tampons are great I carried one, and have several now as part of my gear. You know just In case a bad guy causes me to start menstruating.

I've been rocking that same 5.11 Tactical messenger bag that you are considering and its a pretty badass man purse. I knew it was time for something different when I was picking up my two boys from Sunday School and sporting the same pink diaper bag that they got as a hand me down from their sister. I told my wife that me and the boys were not going to roll with the pink diaper bag anymore and picked up the 5.11 bag. Its been mostly my laptop and travel bag that has doubled as a kid essential gear as well. It does a lot of things really well and its a well thought out bag with tons of well placed compartments and zippered organizers. So I would definitely get it all over again. I also told my little brother to get one as well for his day trips with his two boys then it doubles as his school bag through the week at med school. He got the black one and I have the coyote colored.....they are G2G!

A smart man would tell her to buy whatever she wants to replace the bag because you understand how important it is to replace critical equipment. Then after she buys it, tell her you need a new scope or rifle, because one of yours has a problem. Savvy?

Let me show you how it’s done,

Fly your wife to this place:

Scuola del Cuoio - Florence - Italy

Have your wife tell the master craftsmen what she really needs, design, and function. He will personally assess her concerns, have her pick the hide, dye, style, etc… and construct her purse that will last forever. She will, no doubt, be the Queen B in her social circles as well as those above her.

You will have accomplished the following:

• A great little vacation
• Monster thought to her needs
• Set precedence for future expenditures.

After she receives her finely constructed purse (yes, Ozzie Osbourne, Pope, Jagger, etc… all have had leather goods made there), you will then purchase a rifle kit, without hearing any grief from your wife, that will make us all live vicariously through you.

Win/Win

Ps: the purse will be much cheaper than the rifle/optic kit and try the pizza with ham next to the Duomo.
