Help with 30 Cal. Can

Thanks for the help all. I need some help picking a new can. I have a Nomad L and love it, but it is heavy. At the time of purchase in 2021 I was seriously considering the Nomad LT, but was scared of titanium. I now want a smaller, lighter can and have boiled the decision down to:

Stainless:

  1. Nomad 30 - if you would have asked me 12 months ago, this is what I would have purchased and sort of compared everything to
  2. Enticer S - Seems to be a great can at a great price, but don't love that it appears to be not as tough as the nomad based on firing schedules and barrel minimums
Titanium: I am not a huge mag dump guy, but still somewhat fearful of limitations in the future for classes, etc.

  1. Nomad Ti
  2. New Silencerco Scythe - Being all titanium, I am a bit scared of how it will hold up
  3. Enticer S Ti

I suppose first I need to decide what material I want then decide on a can.

If titanium, which one will be the most rugged? I am planning on using the can on a 18" .308 an 8" 300 Blk and various full length 556

I definitely chase decibels (hints the Nomad Lt purchase), but now want something that performs well that is shorter and lighter.

4/5-port Muzzle Brake with straight ports and wrench flats..?

Does anyone know of a self-timing 4/5-port muzzle brake out there with straight ports and wrench flats..?

I've been running a 5-port Insite Arms Heathen (Gen 1) for the last couple of years and it's been great, very little blast back at the shooter while still reducing recoil, and no headache after shooting... except for me having to fight with a strap-wrench every time I install/uninstall it if I don't want it coming loose on me.

I haven't found a "self-timing" brake yet that will stay tight without having to use a strap-wrench to really get it torqued on there. I've seen just about every popular self-timing brake come loose at bad times, either on me, or other guys I've been in a squad with, this includes brakes from A419, APA, etc. That "hand tight" shit is bullshit.

So for my next brake, I want wrench flats or another solid way (besides a strap-wrench) to take it on and off and tighten it down.

Lastly, I don't want any more concussion back at the shooter than I'm used to with the Heathen (which is one of, if not, the best out there for that)... so that usually means brakes that incorporate some straight ports, the brakes with all the ports angled back at the shooter are completely out for me, I like my hearing and driving home without a headache after the match more than that extra few percent of recoil reduction thanks.

I was looking at the ACE brake, dig the hex at the muzzle (in leu of wrench flats), don't dig those tiny little hex screws on the collar, and not sure they'd hold up to the brake being torqued on and off over time?

Any ideas? Does anyone know of a brand/brake I'm not aware of or am overlooking..?

TIA

Donated NM Muzzy Tag

Folks- I have a tag I can’t use that I’ve donated through NMFG and they have reached out to Holy Pursuits and are looking to set a hunter up with it. As we are getting down to it I’m hoping to help get it processed by letting folks on here know and maybe a deserving person will see it or someone will know someone etc etc. Tag is Elk-3-159. I believe the process would be reach out to Holy Pursuits if you or someone you know is elligible.

Carrying a folding knife in a pocket? Instant solution for protecting your pockets and making access to the knife faster.

So, like most people here are doing, you are carrying a folding knife as part of your regular EDC, right? Doesn't matter if they are passive swivel types, slick assisted openers, or automatics, they are simply the best choice for complete concealability.

Yeah, yeah, I get it. They have belt clips built into them. But the clips on many models, even high end knives, are not exactly reliable on the long run and I know many people who have lost knives and flashlights relying on the clip alone. One of my fellow contractors had his brand new Fenix PD35 TAC light wiggle loose from it's clip and drop over 3 stories from a rooftop HVAC unit we were working on and it's headcase shatter completely. He ordered a new one and I reminded him to get a Fenix hardshell holster for it as well. I actually gave him one of mine because I have a shitload of them and it doesn't hurt to have a few extras on standby... And clips still stand out and anybody trying really hard will notice that you are carrying a knife.

Pockets, especially dominant hand side pants pockets, are the best way to carry a folder for fast deployment if need be. But that presents it's own set of problems. One, a heavy duty folder continuously riding around in your pocket is going to wear a hole right through them after a while. And two, they are loose inside, which means they can settle horizontally into the bottom of your pocket and that makes reaching for it a bit awkward, especially if your work pants have just been freshly laundered and are a bit tight.

Well, that is not a problem anymore.

INTRODUCING: THE REVOLUTIONARY POCKET PROTECTOR. Nah, just kidding. It is just an ordinary faux-leather smartphone and passport/ID top opening wallet that you can get at any discount store. Remove any of the partitions inside normally set aside for IDs and such because you are not using it as an ID case, shear off any top straps if they have any. Then take one of those cheapo nylon drawstring bookbags, cut a nice big piece of fabric out of it, fold it up tight and press it into the bottom of the "holster" to beef up the bottom a bit, and now you got a perfect inside the pants pocket carrier for your heavy duty knife.

The carrier keeps your pockets from wearing out. No more ruined work pants.

The additional bulk of the carrier expands your pocket a bit, and makes reaching into it much easier too.

The added tension and smaller space in the carrier also keeps that folder upright all the time with the swivel end down. You can be assured that thing is always in the position for instant drawing.

And on top of all that, these things are cheap. If they get buffed up and worn to tatters over time, simply get a new one...

This is my SOG Seal XR, a beast of a folding combat knife, inside my ad hoc pocket carrier which is around $2.50 or so and takes about 2 minutes to modify.

SOLD Mk12 Mod1-ish SPR upper

Bought this upper from another hide member here. It got a WOA 18" SPR barrel, BCM quad rail, Bushmaster upper w/ BCG/CH, and a superlative adjustable gas block. It needs a brake/flush hider. Round count <700 by its original owner. I took it on one range trip and it's a good shooter. The collar on the barrel is a look-alike, not the original Allen Engineering collar. I spray-painted the front part of the barrel and the rail panels due to some paint scratch so the color is slightly mismatched. Selling things I don't regularly shoot, and hope someone can find a good use of this upper.

$500 $450 shipped.

Padded Shooting Mat

Looking for a new mat. I own the tab gear one that is nothing more than a glorified tarp and not that comfortable on hard ground. I also have the tactical tailor one that is so comfortable I could sleep on it but it’s too big to fit in my luggage when I travel.

Is there anything out there has some padding but is still compressible enough to fit in a suitcase/pelican?

TEXAS PRISON JUSTICE: Prolific Texas serial killer Billy Chemirmir serving life sentence beaten and stabbed to death by another inmate.

September 19, 2023.
Tennessee Colony, Texas.

Billy Chemirmir, a prolific serial killer in the Dallas area, was serving a life sentence without parole at the Coffield Unit Prison 2661 FM2054 when he was beaten and stabbed to death by his cellmate after allegedly making sexual remarks about the man's children. After killing Chemirmir, the cellmate dragged the corpse out into the hall before going back into his cell and going to sleep.

Exclusively targeted elderly white women living alone or with few visitors.

An undocumented migrant from Kenya, 50 year old Billy Chemirmir had worked as a home health aide in the Dallas area and from 2016 to 2019, he murdered 22 elderly women by suffocating them to death with pillows, before stealing their jewelry and pawning it off. One 91 year old woman survived an attack from Chemirmir and was able to provide crucial information leading to Chemirmir's capture. Chemirmir's trial, which started in 2021, was marked with delays and interruptions as two Soros backed progressive DAs, John Creuzot of Dallas and Greg Willis of Collin County, initially refused to indict Chemirmir on any of the murders despite overwhelming evidence, and later, blocking the death penalty from being given to Chemirmir after the indictment on two counts of capital murder. The final trial in 2022 saw Chemirmir indicted on all counts of capital murder and he was sentenced to life with no possibility of parole.

Billy Chemirmir, 50, was beaten and stabbed to death at Coffield Unit Prison in TN Colony, Texas, after making inappropriate remarks about his cellmate's children:

----------
Following his second conviction, family members of those Chemirmir was accused of killing gathered at a Dallas courthouse to face him. In Ellen French House’s victim impact statement, she told Chemirmir that she wanted him to see two photos of her mother: one of Norma French alive, the other after the 85-year-old was killed.

“This is my beautiful mother,” House said as she displayed the first photo. “This is my mother after you pried her wedding ring off of her finger that she couldn’t even get off.”

Experience with out of the box Rem 700 5R barreled actions

Traditionally, I have worked with more snobby actions and barrels, but I am working on a project and came across the Remington 700 match grade rifle SA with a Remington 5R 4150 barrel.

I am looking for anyone with experience with the barrel and also how true the barrel action is. Normally I would put a better barrel in and also get a trued lug and have the action trued, and the end of the barrel as well, then pillar bed in a nice stock. Most likely, the latter will happen, but I am wondering if the 5r barreled action is good enough.
