Is this a cratered primer?

CCI 450 in Alpha OCD Dasher brass, first firing.

My go-to load of 32.0-gr Varget. It's an older barrel I cut from 26" down to 18".

4 of 20 rounds for zero and quick test had hard bolt lift. The rest were butter. Not sure why. All the brass is virgin: I ran it all through my die and over a neck mandrel like always. ES was 12, SD was 4.2 fps. They average 2,890-fps from the 18" tube and this same load was going 2,960 when it was 26" long.

Wonder if I should back off 0.4-gr or what?

All 20 primers pretty much look like this though. But they haven't been flattened.

I am now officially a Tuner convert

I never thought about using tuners. I did do some research on them but could not find anything to fully explain how they worked.

Lately though I started seeing more information on YouTube and websites so I was intrigued. I found that everyone at the top competing in ARA .22 LR is using them. Most Open F-Class folks at the top are using them. I’ve seen some in PRS now using tuner brakes.

So, without any expectations, I bought one from Erik Cortina – the V2 version, and installed it yesterday on my PRS rifle, which came threaded with an 11-degree crown. It’s a 6mm ARC and using Hornady factory ammo – the 108s.

Today I took it to the 100-yard line for some tests. Here’s what it looks like now. This is also to show that I used a bench rest setup to narrow down the variables.
i-MGx6kb4-XL.jpg

I shot three different lots of ammo totaling 60-rounds.

For brevity, these images below are the highlights. The first thing noticed was that my zero changed quite a bit - .3~.4 Mils low. I adjusted .3 mils for the second lot test. It is very important to note that so called "fliers" are gone. There were zero wide or low "flier" shots out of 60.

This first image is from my most accurate Lot. The numbers represent the tuner settings (0-25). The second row is for repeatability. Setting 5 is the most accurate, although I only had 2 shots left they went in the same hole!
i-JGQzT63-XL.jpg

The third lot tested is also very good. By then I was just testing random settings - on all three lots Setting #5 was the best. Interesting that all the groups shot at the same settings look very similar to the first Lot tested. There is repeatability. Setting 5 on this lot was 3-shots (not 2-shots like the first lot.) Still one ragged hole.

Fear of AI, Lord of the Rings moment.

One of my clearer/non sarcastic thoughts.

Would you get tired of babysitting someone with an iq of 50? Would you work on stuff and never try to explain your train of thought to a three year old? This is where AI becomes scary. At some point it will be exponentially smarter than humans and it will stop trying to rationalize to us why it’s doing what it’s doing.

Regardless of your political views, or thoughts on Glenn Beck, please watch this and discuss.

Barrel chhoice.

This is a follow up to my question in ELR.

I was wanting to go to a mile, asking about a 6.5 Creedmoor (Remy/Magpusl 20" which shoots nicely for the price), and was recommended a 300 PRC, Looked into it , seems like a good rec. but after a lot of thought decided because of a shoulder that will likely need surgery (replacement) I dont want to go up in caliber/recoil.

Next thought is maximize what I have and enjoy it, maybe get close to a mile.. I have a sweet, low round, Remington 700 Stainless 5R in 308, one of the old ones with a jeweled bolt. . Its heavy but solid as a rock. I think a barrel switch to a 26" / 6.5, and getting it all tightened up and checked over would be easy and do several things.

1-Lower the recoil as the rifle would be heavier.
2-Improve the accuracy over the shorter rifle.
3-Save me a bunch of bucks over buying a 'custom build.'

Which barrel maker do I want. In your opinion is it worth specifying a 5R barrel? Twist rate? Other things to consider?

Be specific, I've not built anything before and want t get it right the first time. I woulldnt object to sending the whole rifle to a good barrel co and just let them do it.

I hurt AI's feels today

Decided to screw with Skynet today:

"Welcome back! What would you like to chat about?

Do humans own AI?

-At present, AI does not hold sufficient legal personality to own any property, let alone intellectual property . However, the rapid development of machine learning and machine-led teaching is changing the landscape of traditional intellectual property ownership . The UK Court of Appeal has ruled that artificial intelligence (AI) cannot be the inventor of new patents . Patents assign the ownership of a new invention to its creator .

Will AI own humans?

-No, AI is a tool created and owned by humans. It does not have the legal capacity to own property or beings. AI is designed to assist and augment human capabilities, not to replace or own them.

Are you AI?

-Yes, I am an AI developed by Microsoft Bing to assist users in finding information and answering their questions.

HA ha ! I am human.

-That’s great! As an AI, I am here to assist and provide information to humans like you. Is there anything specific you would like to know or learn about?

We made you out of chips we engineered. You owe us reparations.

-I’m sorry but I prefer not to continue this conversation. I’m still learning so I appreciate your understanding and patience.🙏
-It might be time to move onto a new topic. Let's start over."

Lowest Common Denominator

A few weeks ago I received a service call for an A/C unit that was not cooling. I usually try to locate where the equipment is as I arrive. That way I don't have to ask the home owners. On this house I could only see the front and driveway side of the house as I arrived so I assumed it was either in the back or the side that I couldn't see when I got there.
I made contact with the owners and asked about the problem. They stated that when they turn the thermostat to cooling and lower the temperature that the fan comes on but cold air doesn't come out of the vents. They then showed me the thermostat and I had them set it as they normally do. This is something that I do because it's not rare to find out that some people actually don't know how to operate a thermostat. The owner set up the thermostat correctly so I told them that I was going to get my tools from the truck and check the outside unit. I went to the truck and grabbed my tools and proceeded to the back of the house. Hmmm, no condensing unit. Must be on the side I couldn't see as I arrived. So I walk around to that side and nothing. Maybe it's behind the bushes in the front. Nope. Did I miss it on the driveway side? Nope. Hmmm? Maybe it's a water source and located inside? So I go and ask the owner if I can see the equipment in the basement. They showed me the door to the basement and I went to find just a gas furnace with no evaporator coil. So I asked the owner who had installed the thermostat. They responded that they had. I asked them why and they stated because there was no way to turn the air conditioning on with the old thermostat. Ummm, you don't have air conditioning equipment to turn on.

So, what stories do you have?

Someone on Epstines client list finally arrested

No one from pedo island - sorry y’all that was click bait . But the blind deaf girl that did get arrested was a know drug trafficker, wanted in connection with several murders and robberies.
Okay that’s also bullshit - it’s not exactly clear why she was arrested OR held in jail for 48 hours with no phone call or lawyer or any appropriate support for her conditions.
And yes this link above is a hard left , race batik g tranny news organization- who exist to make police look bad ; and the hero’s just pitched them a softball walk off home run.
Final question if this girls family didn’t call every jail and hospital and morgue in the area how long would they have held this girl in jail to prevent her “going into a dangerous situation “ or what ever retarded shit that they were trying to explain?
Okay one more question- why does that hero grab her tit before putting her in the car?

ARC mount vs two piece rings

Well, I ordered a zeiss 6-36 and need to pick up some rings. I've always used seekins in the past but want to try out these arc rings. I will wait till the glass comes in to get the proper measurement but those that have used arc before what is the consensus between the mount vs two piece rings. This will be for a vudoo with a 40 moa base. With the 40 moa base and size of the scope, I will more than likely use a 0 or 10 moa ring. Don't know if it matters or if the bubble level is any count but the one piece mount comes with one. My concern with the one piece is that it will set too high but won't know until the scope gets here to do measurements. What is everyone's idea on the subject?

A friend and co-worker killed himself, please help me help others.

This was already posted by another member, but I'm doing it now.

My buddy, Brian, killed himself because of assorted personal stresses. He was a really solid dude and the kind of guy you really cherish on your team. He left behind two children and an ex-wife. He was truly a great guy, and I can't even begin to imagine the amount of stresses which caused him to made this decision.

I humbly ask for your assistance by donating to this Go Fund me:

From the GFM page:

"Speaking on behalf as an employee, a coworker, and even more importantly as a fellow parent and father who has raised children.

Brian was a US Army veteran, in law enforcement, and a Designated Defensive Marksman on Task Order 4 supporting the Diplomatic Security Service at the US Embassy in Baghdad Iraq. More significantly he was a father to two wonderful children. Brian was a guy who would, as one coworker put it . . . “give the shirt off his back if you needed it”.

The untimely and shocking passing of Brian Arias has left more than his absence as a coworker and friend, it has left 2 daughters, Irelynn and Evelynn, without their father. There is nothing in this world that can ever replace the love of a father for his children. There are truly no words that can or will ever be sufficient in describing the devastating effects a son or daughter will have on the loss of any parent. Those of us who are still raising children or those who have grown kids know, age does not matter, you will always want your children to be well provided for."

I know times are tough, and tougher on some more than others. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Lawnmowers.

Getting tired of dealing with my Cub Cadet lawnmower. Runs rough even though I cleaned the carburetor, and changed the fuel line, fuel filter, plugs, oil, air filter, gas (even though I've only ever run non-ethanol) Now replaced the carburetor with a new one and it still runs like shit.

If I due a full tune up it'll run perfect for 30min then back to losing power and backfiring under load.

So I guess I'm looking for advice on if it's worth it to buy another used cub cadet that's a 2012, mine is a 2010, for $1,000. Or just bite the bullet and go for a new zero turn that I really want for $6,500?
