Vanity of Vanities...

I was sitting with my coffee this morning, meditating, and this passage came to me. Its so true, we, myself at the head of the pack, get so wrapped up in this earthly crap we lose sight of the one thing that is forever. Its not, as the Preacher says, the earth, as eventually even that will pass. What is eternal, forever? Some would say 'God' but to me that is a bit amorphous, so I see it as Jesus put it, God is "LOVE". Not even loving one another, as we will all pass. Just recognizing that the fundamental priciple of all being is found in Love/God. All else shall pass but that shall remain.

Y'all have a great day.

Ecclesiastes 1

King James Version

1 The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.
2 Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.
3 What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?
4 One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.
5 The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose.
6 The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits.
7 All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.
8 All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.
9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.
10 Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.
11 There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after.
12 I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem.
13 And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven: this sore travail hath God given to the sons of man to be exercised therewith.
14 I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit.
15 That which is crooked cannot be made straight: and that which is wanting cannot be numbered.
16 I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I am come to great estate, and have gotten more wisdom than all they that have been before me in Jerusalem: yea, my heart had great experience of wisdom and knowledge.
17 And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit.
18 For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.

Single vs 2 stage trigger

All.
I searched the forum and couldn't find a thread that directly addresses my questions regarding trigger type.
I'll start by explaining my history with a 2 stage trigger. For years while shooting bullseye competitively I used a Hammerli 208S pistol. The 208S has a $2000 trigger inside a $500 gun. The gun was nice and accurate. But, the trigger was a work of art. Both trigger stages were adjustable for weight and sear engagement, at least perceived movement during the first stage since the sear isn't moving at that point. I would adjust the trigger to feel like a long, smooth roll with no perceptible change when transitioning into the 2nd stage.
Now that I am in possession of my first AR I question the trigger, it was assembled with a Geissele SSA-E 2 stage trigger. TBH, I had no idea what that would feel like. The 1st stage is pretty light with a lot of movement before hitting the 2nd stage. Once the trigger is at the 2nd stage it feels like 3 lbs or so in weight and is very crisp. I dry fired the gun repeatedly to get a feel for this trigger. When the trigger resets it's just forward of the 2nd stage, very little light movement rearward is required before hitting the wall again at the 2nd stage, which finishes again with a crisp pull.

My questions are:
1- What's the purpose in a 2 stage like this? To me this feels like a 1911 with A LOT of pre-travel before hitting the wall.
2- Shouldn't the trigger reset all the way to the beginning of the 1st stage? The first stage seems pointless since the trigger resets essentially to the beginning of the 2nd stage.

For bullseye competition I can explain exactly why a fully adjustable 2 stage trigger is beneficial, but I don't understand how the trigger I now possess provides any benefit over a single stage trigger. Not looking to upset anyone with these questions/observations, I would really like to understand. Hope I explained myself well. Thanks!

SOLD Nightforce atacr 7-35 f1

This one was on a bench gun of mine. Extremely good condition. I’ve gotten into prs/nrl shooting and love the mil xt reticle. Would trade for one of those or sell for SOLD$ shipped. Included original box etc. Rings are not included. Scope rings were set at 18in/lbs. moar reticle. Glass is fantastic. Scope could pretty much pass for new.

Some trades are welcome.

NF atacr 7-35 f1 mil xt, I would add $$
Razor gen 2 4.5-27 mil and cash
Razor gen 3 6-36 mil and a little cash

Possibly open to others as well

SH Lingo, Acronyms, Abbreviations, Verbology, Slang

I thought a primer might be helpful for others like myself who aren't experts on SH lingo, slang, verbology, acronyms, and abbreviations:

1) ZCO is AT and I don't mean AI-AT (No AI doesn't mean Ackley Improved in this usage) The "AT" is for Austria, a.k.a. AUT. (No, Australia is AU or AUS, )

2) TT is CA as in Can (Not "can" as in suppressor) and not CA/Calif nor CA/Chromatic Aberration (Not TT/Trigger Tech of CA/Can, nor TT/True Temper)

3) SB is DE as in Germany unless you're talking about the other SB then it's CZ (no not CZ guns of CZ)

4) LRI/Long Rifles Inc is CD of SD/South Dakota not to be confused with LRF/Laser Range Finder

5) MPA (not MPI/Metallic Particle Inspection) is GA, not to be confused with GAP of MO nor to be confused with MDT of CA.

6) Barrett is not to be confused with Beretta nor BT/Brugger Thomet

7) SF/SureFire is CA/Calif and not CA/Can, although SF does make CANS/Suppressors. SF is not to be confused with SF/Surefeed mags nor SF/Special Forces. (*SoF is NOT to be confused with SF*)

8) SD is a bullet specification and not SD/South Dakota except when SD is South Dakota

9) MT/Montana is a great place but MT/MagTech isn't great ammo

10) 7.62 is NATO except when it's x54 or x39- then it's Rusky

11) Lowlight is Frank Galli not to be confused with the light conditions term lowlight, nor to be conflated with the Galli family of Brooklyn NY

12) Zeiss is Zeiss except when Leica also means Zeiss. But Zeiss almost never means Leica

13) Aimpoint is not to be confused with the sighting term Point Of Aim/POA

14) BO means Badger Ordnance not Barrack Obama

What was the tread that guy wrote that's survived the Bosnian war?

I can't remember exactly and it obvious wasn't on here, it was some preper forum. It's a well known story but I can't find it again. It was a guy that didn't speak very good English but people were asking him questions and he was describing everything that happened to him and his family during the Bosnian civil war and how they survived.

Does anyone have a link to it?

Melanoma :(

Went to the dermatologist last week for the first time in my life (I'm 33)

They took 2 biopsies, they called today and said the one from my back was positive for melanoma. Derm said it was a hair bigger than whatever they sliced out for the biopsy so they are sending me to a specialist to get the rest of it. The spot was small, maybe Mike & Ike sized if being generous.

Was on my lower back area, which is odd because that sees very little sunlight. Assumed it was a birth mark or just a spot.

I'm kind of freaked out, who the fuck get's skin cancer on their ghost white low back?

Firearms Stockpiled stuff for sale thread (updated 6-13-24)

I have a decent amount of "stuff" piled up that I want to sell. I will probably add to this list some small things as I organize my crap better.

If it is an NFA item it is still parked on a Form 3, not on a Form 4. Any NFA thing below, or any firearm, I'll ship for $25 to your FFL from my FFL.

As people request photos, I'll come back and update this thread with whatever picture I take. Make me an offer if you'd like something. If you (a) recently registered here; (b) speak in weird phrases or use weird words (like beginning your PM with "greetings"); or (c) have no feedback, don't be shocked if I just don't reply to you. I probably won't sell you anything.

Paypal F&F (with no comments) or Venmo.

Firearms BAT 33XC SPF

BAT model M single shot action with McMillan stock and Jewel trigger. This rifle has a Chanlynn 28” barrel with 9.7” twist and brake. I had this rifle built many years ago as a 338 LM and broke in the barrel meticulously back then with 40 rounds. That is all that the barrel and action have on them. I had it rechambered to the 33XC and haven’t shot it as such.
$3100
Only trades ZCO 4-20, S&B ultra short, Kahles 3-18. Would like a Horus or grid style reticle for holding over/off with N/V clip on.

So my daughter is heading off to college...

Looking for thoughts/opinions/experiences on what I need to compile for her in an emergency kit to keep in her car.

The drive will be 2 hours, and a great deal of it will be through the countryside. Cell service is good the entire way. She will never be too far away for me to drop what I'm doing and go, but it is still up to a 2 hour drive.

So far I'm looking at getting her the Cabela's gear bag and fill it with the following:

Edit: Jumper Cables are already in the car

1. Basic ratchet and socket set - sae and metric
2. Flashlight - battery operated - not rechargeable
3. Whistle -
4. Road flare
5. Reflective safety cone or triangle?
6. Duck tape
7. Electrical tape
8. Screws drivers or a driver handle with a box of different bits
9. Gloves
10. Pepper Spray in bag
11. Knife or utility knife
12. Paracord
13. Alcohol wipes
14. Bandaids
15. Glue?
16. Pliers - maybe channel locks

My wife also wants her to have some sort of personal protection weapon to keep on her. I will check into the school's policys, but she wants to go with an telescoping baton. I already understand if someone takes a weapon from you it can be used on you. Just looking for thoughts or what you may have done for your child, or if you are a college student what do you have?

Thank you in advance.

Budget 223 Bolt Action Trainer. Howa 1500 or RemArms 700?

Hello all!

6.5cm has become too expensive to shoot at this time, I don't reload as I do not have the time/space to reload at home. I plan to practice in the time being with a 223 bolt gun until I relocate and have the time/space to reload.

I have been drawn to the Brownell's Howa 1500 .223 barreled action or even the Howa 1500 .223 in the Oryx chassis as it comes from the factory. My requirements are pretty basic, threaded barrel for a comp and an Arca rail. I understand the barreled action now comes in a mini action as opposed to the short action they used to. I am not too worried as I do not plan to spend too much on aftermarket chassis parts or parts more commonly found in the short action configuration.

I also see Remington is back again with their post bankruptcy line of 700 rifles. But it does look like I'll be spending more money replacing the Hogue stock whereas I am good to go with a ~$900 Howa in Oryx chassis. Added bonus with Rem is their rifles now all come standard with a Timney trigger.

Anyone have any input as to whether this is a decent choice to move forward with?

Thanks y'all!
