Optics Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x24. NP-R2 Illuminated Reticle. Mark 12 SPR. Bought new 2015. Never mounted. Like New. $2700. Free FedEX.

Known far and wide as a rare piece, this hard to find scope was recently sent to Nightforce in February 2023 just to reapply a little lube to the magnification ring. They pronounced it in excellent shape. Said it would go for $3,000 to the right buyer. I reduced that by 10%. I will ship FedEx for free, but only in the good old USA. (This scope hasn't been made in 8 years and it's still illegal to export them.) Comes in a Nightforce Box, but not the original box. No paint, no flaws. Not NAV-Spec marked. NF says no difference.

Rifle Scopes Glassaholic's History of Reviews

At the risk of sounding a bit self-aggrandizing I have been asked by more than a few Hide members over the years to let them know where they can go to read other reviews I have posted, I suppose some may be genuine while others are simply looking for a good read to help put them to sleep at night. It's quite possible I missed a few reviews here and there but this is what I came up with in my search, I tried to order them somewhat chronologically so if you start at the top and work your way down you hopefully see an improvement in my review methodology as well as my communication skills. I have tried different rating systems over the years and all have come up short and have led some to misunderstandings so I'm trying not so much to do "ratings" but provide thoughts and opinions while sharing where my bias leads. I do have a methodology for testing attributes of a scope and I provide a numerical value based on what I see and provide that as a gauge; however, these values are based on the conditions of that day and the specific scope and setup so should not be taken as a hard-fast rule.

My goal with this thread is to track it and update it, I've been providing reviews on the Hide for a decade now which seems so long yet feels so short. I'm not getting any younger and the reviews take an enormous amount of prep work and time without any monetary benefit so I will likely be slowing down somewhat, I suppose I could have been one of those "YouTuber's" but I don't like the sound of my own voice and for reasons revealed in 2020 and since there has been a huge anti-2A shift in the USA which has shut down the sites and voices of many, so for the most part I have remained relatively anonymous (a few years ago I changed my username for this reason), but whether it's old age or stubbornness I'm beginning to not care so much so maybe at some point I may try to venture out into the vast "aether"net. At the time of this post I am not sponsored or paid by anyone, I do have some relationships with higher ups at a few sport optics companies but outside of that I get nothing but the satisfaction of knowing I'm helping a few of you who are in the market for a scope but are unable to get your hands on them personally. If you appreciate the work I've done and know anyone within the industry who may benefit from "honest" reviews of sport optics feel free to PM me.

  • The sample variance question: Look at getting multiple copies of Nightforce NX8 2.5-20x50, Steiner T6Xi 3-18x56, Leupold Mark 5 3.6-18x44 and Vortex Razor LHT 4.5-22x50. (If you have recommendations on other optics I would be open to that, but these seem to get the most comments about different experiences between different samples).
  • Considering a budget class scope review if enough interest: Strike Eagle, Match Pro ED, Arken, DNT, Athlon. Maybe a Leupold Mark 4HD 8-32x56 and DNT to see how this "budget" but higher end optic compares. Use Vortex RG3 6-36 as baseline.

SOLD Desert Tech SRS-A2 300 Win Mag

I recently took this in on trade. Thought I would shoot it but never have. Previous owner had 200 rounds through it. It has a 26’’ barrel, Atlas bipod and 3 mags. I will not sell just the chassis or barrel and action. Complete rifle sale only! Only trade I’m interested in is either a Sig Spear in 308 or Sig Spear LT 7.62x39 or possibly a LMT Mars-h 308.

$3,800 shipped to lower 48.

Scope suggestions (500 - 1000 yards)

How much is enough?… How much is overkill?…

Just getting set up for trying long range shooting. I have two setups that I need glass for.

1) Vudoo V-22: would like to try to shoot out to at least 400, probably 500, and try for maybe 600 yards. This gun is what I’ll shoot 95% of the time. Will be in a chassis but haven’t decided which yet. Will have a TT diamond, unsure of 1 or 2 stage yet.

2) Savage 110 Precision Elite, 5.56, in a MDT ACC chassis, with ELF single stage trigger.

What I have been using for scopes to compare to: hunting are Vortex Diamondback BDC 4-12 and Strike Eagle 4-24 (2nd focal plane). Target guns all have Arken SH4 gen ii 6-24 FFP (their bottom line).

Will the Arken be fine for 500 yrds? 1000 yrds? Should I be looking at getting something better? What are you paying for in a better scope? All of the above seem to be clear to me, but I haven’t ever really looked out that far with any of them enough to study if it makes a difference in detail, or whatever else I should be looking for.

I’ll always be shooting mid day so light transmission is a non issue. Generally will only be shooting on days their is no or very little wind. I only compete against myself, so I’m not looking for that fraction of a difference to be the very best against competitors. That being said, I do want to feel that I’m the limiting factor and not my gear.

What do you suggest? Including what your suggestion typically runs cost wise would also be helpful. Thanks in advance!

3d Printing Tanks for the Army

So, it’s my 3rd day out of state and I have some free time, hence, knowing there are many tech buffs in here, wanted to share something interesting and futuristic. I was the lead applications engineer on this project and it was also my first project of this magnitude. So, since the information is already out there and can be found in public, I can proudly share something that’s going to push our combat vehicles to the next level in the future. I’m proud to present you the worlds largest metal/hybrid 3d printer that is going to develop combat vehicles and hopefully tanks for the DEVCOM in the scope of the “jointless hull” project: The Masterprint Metal.
The concept of this means of manufacturing a military vehicle is very original and interesting. The key is, there are little to no weld seams, which are typically the weakest points of military vehicles. Because the process of welding brings the metal above it’s melting temperature which is beyond the TG, the metal at and about the weld seems on the vehicles loses the hardness from the annealing and creates a weak spot. Hence DEVCOM was looking at a technology that could solve this issue and produce jointless vehicle parts and eventually entire hulls.
After long studies it was decided that solid state deposition would be chosen. Reason being:
Solid state deposition is a relatively new additive manufacturing technology in which the metal doesn’t actually melt, but only plasticises by means of introducing a specific combination of heat and pressure. This means the metal can still be deposited almost as if it has been molten, but it actually never even gets to it’s TG. A micro-particle study done by one of our military research divisions has shown that while in more typical metal additive manufacturing methods (like DED or DMLS) the micro-particles of the printed part are in average around 800-100 microns apart, in a part manufactured via SSD, the micro-particles are in orders of magnitude closer, around 5-10 microns apart, hence the end use part is much stronger. Now it is important to note, this doesn’t go to say that a part made by SSD doesn’t need annealing, it can still benefit from the process, but it showcases, that a non annealed part made by SSD would be much stronger than a non annealed part from any other additive manufacturing technology.
For parts that are too large to anneal, this becomes the absolute go to technology because not only it produces the strength needed, but also the part can be printed as a near net-shape and be machined in minimal times, with minimal tool and machine wear and minimal loss of the material.
So, the Army’s “jointless hull” program was a GO. The program consisted of making 2 hybrid metal printers that could produce parts in near net-shape via SSD and then mill to spec. I call the printers “big and little brothers”, but a more accurate description would be a large scale printer and a waayy to large scale printer. Both machines have been made, passed the acceptance tests and are already in Army facilities.
Currently there are 3 companies in the US and the world that have this technology. Having met and worked with all 3, I am now a believer in solid state deposition to the point that I can confidently say, it’s one of the biggest technological achievements in the last 10 years. This does not mean that it can take the place of other technologies, because the application is very specific and would not be compatible or feasible in many other applications, however, solid state deposition can do something none of the other technologies can and this cements it’s place in todays manufacturing.

In closing, this was one of the most satisfactory accomplishments in my life and hopefully a start of something much bigger for the US military. Mmmurica!

I have linked a couple articles if anyone wants to look further into it. Although the machine looks huge in the picture, trust me, it’s much bigger in person, lol.

This is Washington, Senate Semi Auto Ban Hearing 3/23

This is the BIG stand. Stand up and be heard loudly! Don't give up, don't give in!

SHB 1240 – Semi Automatic Gun Ban hearing is scheduled!

Senate Democrats are defying the SCOTUS Bruen decision, like the failing laws in NJ, NY, Il, CA, MD.

Wasting your state resources, time and money, to pass an unconstitutional ban on semi automatic rifles, pistols, shotguns and parts!!! They KNOW they won't win in courts, but don't care.

Dear Senators, Stop the virtue signaling and get to work reducing criminal activity.

Log into the hearing today, DO NOT WAIT!!!! Sign in "CON" or leave written testimony. Send to everyone! Like and share, TAG your friends, your gun shops, your ranges.

CRITICAL UPDATE: Log into the State Senate hearing. the mail emails from NRA, GOA and others DO NOT record in the hearing...are they helpful, sure...for sending you donation requests. Log into the hearings with the links provided below.

My response

"I,do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."

Although not specifically required by any statute or constitutional provision, you have advised us that it has long been the practice of all legislators, upon assuming office, to take the same oath of office as is prescribed by RCW 43.01.020 for officers of the executive branch of state government. This oath reads, in pertinent part, as follows:

". . . I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution and laws of the state of Washington, and that I will faithfully discharge the duties of the office of (name of office) to the best of my ability." (Emphasis supplied.)

I am still bound by my oath long after the end of my active service. To the best of my knowledge, it has not been and will never be rescinded.

As a sitting member of our legislature you are bound by your oath. You can do no less than interpret the recent SCOTUS decision as the court intended.

The Supreme Court recently declared a new standard for Second Amendment jurisprudence, "text, history, and tradition." Established by the 2022 landmark decision, NYSRPA v. Bruen, the text, history, and tradition test now governs laws restricting the right to keep and bear arms – invalidating any gun laws that fail to meet its standard. Anything less is unconstitutional and a violation of your oath as a sitting member of the Washington State legislature.

I strongly urge you to turn your attentions to the root cause of violence, the individual, rather than the legal, lawful, gun owners of Washington State.

So, yeah. Done and done ...

In case you think that a comment from outside our state would have no impact, look no further than the witnesses supporting the ban that the state paraded in front of committees and the house. Not one was from this state

Thank You for giving this a read.

Firearms Fantastic Condition $3600 shipped AIAT308 & Atlas Cant Bipod FS

Drumming up the funds for my first house down payment and have to sell my last rifle. This is a basically new AIAT 308 threaded folder all set up. Shoots bullets touching and I’m not a particularly gifted shot at that. Will include pics.

I will include the torque wrench set I used to set the recommended screw weights on the gun, a shooting sock (these last two things are just a courtesy not really factoring price, scope, rifle, one piece mount, scope attachments, and bipod.

I only shot 175g FGMM SMKs through this - roughly five boxes of them over about two days of shooting.

Other details: 24" 5/8"-24, TMR3 reticle.

FFL to FFL please.

$5,800 shipped CONUS.

A few group (100y 5 rounds fliers and all) and reticle photos attached, typically shooting from bipod but after non-insignificant cardio events. Photo of reticle included …note the bird that landed on the target! I let him go, but got an interesting photo. Also had some fun at 700 with 2/3rds IPSC steel.

Firearms Complete 223 Comp Rifle - Will Seperate

This is a 700 action chambered in 223. Round count is 330. Can provide more pictures of anything you need. Rifle shoots like a champ with 75 ELDm’s. That’s all I’ve ever ran in it.

Has modified bolt knob with Night Force 20 MOA rail. Barrel is a 26” Heavy Palma 1-7 twist Hawk Hill chambered by Nomad Precision in Kentucky. Brake is a APA Gen 2 Lil Bastard. Rifle and action has been cerakote bronze. Trigger is a Timney. Don’t know the model but it breaks clean at what feels like 1 to 1.5 lbs.

Stock is a KRG Bravo with full bottom rail. I have a small bag or additional screws and stuff that comes with stock. BIPOD NOT INCLUDED

Scope is a Bushnell XRS II with G3 Reticle and Rings are Seekins 34mm Low rings. Have box and all paper work with scope.

Will separate this rifle. Prices are reflected below. Scope will be listed in the optics section as well. All prices are shipped PP F&F

BA only $1025.00 SOLD
Scope $875.00 w/o rings or $1000 with rings.
Stock $350.00 SOLD
Scope rings $130.00
