Big scratch in barrel?

I have a proof carbon barrel in 6GT and it started shooting worse than it usually does. I figured it was dirty, which it was, so I started with my normal barrel cleaning routine which consists of Patch-Out, Accelerator and nylon brushes. I use a quality cleaning rod and bore guide as well.

After cleaning, I go in with a bore scope just to see what things look like and I noticed a pretty big scratch from the freebore all the way about 2/3 down the barrel I have never seen before. It stays on the same groove of rifling the whole way.

Obviously only way to tell if affects shooting is to shoot it after cleaning, but curious as to what may have caused it.

Only thing I can think of is maybe a stainless bead from wet tumbling?

I'm really hoping this isn't what is causing this barrel to shoot poorly....

AR tuning gurus….need your help.

I own an LMT CQB.

It came with the standard 16 inch or so carbine barrel.

I came across a sweet 20 inch stainless steel barrel in the PX and bought it. I have probably fired 1000 rounds through it. Shoots great.

Any way, last night while cleaning the rifle I note a ghost imprint of the back of the gas key on the top of my lower receiver at the buffer tube.

May have been there since I fired my first round on the rifle.

I don’t like it.

Last thing I want to do is beat my lower or shear off the gas key.

Gas block on the twenty inch barrel is slightly forward of the 16 inch barrel gas block by maybe an inch, just enough to have it sit past the end of the quad rail. The sixteen incher is in the quad rail IIRC.

I’m thinking the extra gas going through the tube before the bullet exits the barrel is causing this.

Liking the twenty inch barrel but not liking the impact on the lower receiver.

Perhaps a heavier buffer or spring but What might do is cut the twenty to 18 inches which is what I really wanted for a barrel….hmmmm.

Clue me in on why GDI sucks.

Hey all,
So it is nearly new car time and I have been pondering a new-ish Subie Crosstrek (The 6MT goes away for 2024 and still on the fence about the CVT tho the MPG is impressive and I have a 600 mile a week communte). Anyways, it ticks the boxes. More room inside that a 4runner, AWD, good MPG, timing chain instead of a belt, and not boosted BUT they run GDI and I see ere'body saying GDI sucks. Honest question here... Why does it suck? A little reading suggests that the right oil (something with a low brix number (?) aka less volitiles) and a seperator inline in the PCV system might keep the gunk in the intake to a minimum so what an I missing? TIA.

Edited to add. I am not a trade in every three years guy. I keep my rides until the wheels fall off. Current rig is 12 years old, 380K on the clock, and still gets 32MPG. Why yes, it is a Toyota.

Wyoming spring bear hunt bullet choices

The bear pit seems like the right spot for this.

Headed out to Wyoming for the May 15th spring bear opener. I've got a few questions:

1. I know there is a mountain of snow up there right now. Do you Wyoming folks think that enough of it will thaw in time to hunt them that first week?

2. 300 Wsm, 20" 1-10 barrel. Talk to me about what ranges I can reasonably expect to have opportunities at. I shoot prs and shoot regularly out to 1,200y, but I've been out that way and I know that wind is the real issue, so what is considered reasonable out there? I an asking because I have a decent selection of bullets available, and have time to get something else if I need to, so before I start loading ammo for this trip, look at the picture of what I already have please and let me know what you would do. Thanks fellas.

Scratched chamber

Hi Everyone
I ran the borescope through the barrel and found out the chamber area has some scratches and raised metal marks
Tried to chamber a virgin brass and closed the bolt, extracted brass has the exact same marks

I look at the bag of first fired rounds that I saw they have the similar marks so it can’t be my mistake during cleaning and etc…

This is a custom rifle with carbon fiber proof barrel and has about 150 rounds down the tube.
I am very disappointed since it’s made by one if the best custom rifle builders in nation!
-should I worry about these scratches and are they going to affect the accuracy and consistency in load development?
How about case lifespan?

- solution to get rid of them?

- do I have to solve this issue before continuing load development?

Property trust for the poors

See my email exchange with a lawyer below. My question for you guys: in what ways is he right, and related, in what ways am I looking at this wrong?

A little more context: never worked with this lawyer before, he was casually recommended to me by my boss. I'm in my 30s, a poors, never bought property before. Good head on my shoulders, but admittedly not savvy about real estate or finance. Thanks for reading

###

Dave,
Mike gave me your contact, said you might be able to point me in the right direction.
I am buying some land and am considering putting it in a trust. After doing a little reading, these are some thing I think I am looking for:

-Asset protection
-Privacy
-Self-settled
-Irrevocable trust

I'm on a budget, don't know if anything like this can be done for around $2000.
Thanks,
tea&jam

Thanks for your email. Preliminarily, my rate is $375 an hour. And as part of that, I would need to have an exploratory meeting with you to determine your reasoning for an irrevocable trust. You may have a good one, but I will need to tell you the up and downsides of that type of trust, as well. You may also want to be thinking of who may be a good trustee of that trust, because if you are doing it for asset protection, you will need an independent, unrelated trustee.

If it is a one asset trust, I can most likely do it for about $2,000, but cannot guarantee that if there is more work than expected involved.
Let me know if there is a good time next week to meet for you.

Thanks again.
Dave

--------

Thanks Dave,

Is 4:30 too late? Monday or Tuesday are best for me.

So we can have an efficient exploratory meeting, these are some things I would like to cover:

-Exhaust other possibilities to create the privacy and asset protection I am interested in
-Clarify the duties of the trustee, and the yearly maintenance the trust would require
-Clarify how a trust would work if there is a contract for deed or mortgage; can a trust "buy" land?
-Review if Idaho is a "friendly" state for irrevocable asset protection trusts, and if not, list some alternatives
-Look at an example document of an irrevocable trust

I can elaborate on my thoughts some, so we can hopefully stay under an hour.

Given that:
-It's harder and harder to have privacy,
-I do not plan on having a family or getting married,
-I believe our healthcare system is pretty much broken,
-I see a trend with the government becoming more authoritarian,
$2,000 seems like a reasonable amount to have peace of mind and insulate myself from institutions that I do not think have my best interests in mind.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or thoughts,

Thanks,

tea&jam

I am sorry, but based on your input and desires, I do not think I can help you on this. To be honest, I think you are going to be disappointed with the result, because I really think that you are not going to be able to achieve the level of asset protection and privacy you are seeking.

I wish you the best.

Eaten Alive In Jail By Bed Bugs or.....

Reading through the story the family is getting an independent autopsy and something tells me that they are going to get a shock when they find out that he died from an overdose or something else and that it wasn't the bugs. Or he may be the one unlucky bastard that was allergic to bed bugs. Ben Crump is on the case so rest assured he'll get to the bottom of it.
Anyone know what his cut of the pie is when the families settle?

Feedback RimX 17 wsm

In the market for a zermatt RimX 17 wsm. Action or barreled action.

My savage b mag stainless bull barrel just isn't consistent. I think this cartridge could be a sweet shooter but the factory offerings are slim to none other the the ruger m77/17 but they are north of 1500. Might as well build a custom at that point to match my other long range rifles.

Any input is greatly appreciated!

Zeus bolt lift compared to Tikka

I’m about to pull the trigger on a Zeus qc but keep looking at the Impact 737 and keep second guessing myself. I’m leaning toward the Zeus because of the 60deg bolt because my current target rifle is a Tikka and I like the bolt operation of it granted I haven’t ever owned anything other than Tikka’s. Is the bolt lift on the Zeus more or less than a factory Tikka? I think I’ll be happy if it’s at least the same but not heavier. Anyone that’s had a chance to use both the Zeus and Tikka I’d love to hear your opinions on the two.

Big crack in Lapua brass, a trend?

Virgin Lapua .284 Win brass fired in a .284 Shehane chamber. After my nine hour cleaning and polishing routine, I found this.

Several hundred cases from this same lot have been fired with no drama. I’m not suggesting anything, just thought it was interesting.

Destroyed Jewel triggers

Last week I chambered a bullet seated into the lands and then tried to extract it, dumping a case full of powder into my single shot Surgeon action. I couldn't even close the bolt before cleaning it out.

I thought I cleaned everything up thoroughly, even taking the bolt apart and wiping it down. When I put everything back together, I fired one shot and the trigger wouldn't cock. When I took the action out of the stock, a small part fell out of the trigger.

I recleaned everything as best I could, put in another Jewel, and fired one shot- same thing happened, even to the point of the same little part falling out of the new trigger.

Any idea what I've missed?

Did Galco steal my design?

The original design was made when I modified. one of their Phoenix revolver holsters to use the Safariland QLS system. The alteration was accomplished by unstitching the holster, adding the mounts, reinforcing the mounting area and then re-stitching.

It turned out really well and I sent them a picture of it along with the modifications I made. The mod allows someone to use ANY of the QLS systems for belt ride, mid ride or thigh rigs. This was about 14 or 15months ago. Anyway, I got an email advertisement from them for their "new" Big Iron holster. It is in my opinion ,essentially, exactly what I sent with except they used a slightly different holster (a modified DAO strongside as opposed to the phoenix). Its not a big deal but I am little salty they did not have the courtesy to mention using my idea.

In two of my pics, you can see the thigh rig, in the other you can see the mid-ride. I also have a belt ride for it. These also work with KT-Mechs universal system.

Siete vs Delta 5 Pro vs AT-X

Considering three potential rifles (Daniel Defense Delta 5 Pro, LaRue Siete, Accuracy International AT-X).

I want a rifle with the ability to easily change between calibers (I enjoy reloading and trying new fun short action calibers). I prefer to be in the sub 3k price range however willing to go a little more. I know the AT-X is closer to 5 however barrel kits seem to be more affordable in that platform.

I’m curious what experiences individuals have had and what I might be missing with this list. I have several LaRue gas guns and remain consistently happy with their performance.
