I fixed the Fix

Always wanted a Fix, or a rifle that met the use case the Fix was built for, but wanted more modularity/commonality. This was a long 2 year journey to obtain all the parts, but it turned out fantastic...at least in the hand. Time to shoot it and pray its accurate. With my Nomad Ti suppressor, the entire package will still eak in a just under 8lbs. The barreled action and chassis by itself weighed 5 pounds and 7.7 ounces FWIW.

300 Norma is it really worth it?

Picking up an axsr in the next day or two. I’m stuck on two calibers 300 prc or 300 Norma.

I’ll be shooting this out to 2200 yards or so but probably more like a mile to 2k most times.

I do reload although I’m not set up at the moment due to a recent move. I keep seeing data that shows them within 75 fps of each other. Then I’ll read where someone is getting 250 fps more with the Norma. Barrel life isn’t a major concern but if the 300 Norma is only marginally better is there any reason to use it? Components seem to be nearly double the price of the prc and brass harder to find.

To me this is the way I see it
300 prc
Good factory ammo
Cheaper
Easier to find brass

Norma
Better performance?
Having proper bolt face to move up to 33xc if I wanted

I don’t mind spending more if it really is worth it performance wise. Just want to get it right the first time. I appreciate the help.

$200 Shotgun.

A buddy had never owned a gun so as partial payment for some plumbing he did for me I gave him one of theses Mossberg Maverick 88's. He was a bit nervous about hsi first gun so I took him out to the range and started him with bird shot. When he aw what 00 buckshot did to an old TV I swear his eyes got big, he got a woody and was forever hooked. Worked him through several handguns starting with a .22 up to my 45ACP and some rifles. He now looks forward to shooting.

The point of this is, though, this Mossberg, for $200 is a great, inexpensive, home defense or use and discard weapon. The guys in the video ran 505 rounds through it in 1 hour 20 minutes without a failure to feed.

Joe Biden Announces Plan to Build Railroad from ‘the Pacific All the Way Across the Indian Ocean’

President Joe Biden claimed Thursday that his administration has plans to build a railroad from “the Pacific all the way across the Indian Ocean.”

Speaking at the League of Conservation Voters Thursday, Biden announced a massive plan to construct a railroad spanning nearly half the globe.

“We have plans to build a railroad from the Pacific all the way across the Indian Ocean,” he said:

Also, during his remarks, Biden claimed that climate change is “the only truly existential threat” to American posterity.

“There’s a lot of threats our children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, are gonna face. [Climate change] is the only truly existential threat…If we don’t meet the requirements that we are lookin’ at, we are in real trouble,” he said.

In addition, Biden claimed for the third time in one week that Africa has fewer than one billion people. “Soon, Africa will have one billion people,” he said.

According to Johns Hopkins University, “ince 1982 Africa’s population has more than doubled with the continent passing the 1 billion mark in 2009.” MacroTrends.net estimates the population of Africa is about 1.4 billion.

Meanwhile, strong majorities of Americans have concerns about Biden’s “health and mental acuity,” including three in four Democrats, with 50 percent being either “very” or “somewhat” concerned and 26 percent being “slightly” concerned, a May poll found.

Suppressors Ordering a suppressor for someone else?

Long story short, I would like to order a suppressor for a friend as a gift. I wanted to pay for the can itself but wanted to have it delivered to his FFL. He'd pay the tax stamp, fill out the 4473 paperwork and pay the FFL fees. From my research this isn't illegal, correct? I'm not trying nor do I want to do this illegally, but I want to make sure.

For the FFLs here, is that a problem? Anyway suggestions to make this go as smoothly as possible? Thanks for any help.

Penn State Professor Caught Having Sex with Dog Says ‘I Do It to Blow Off Steam’

penn state professor themis matsoukas

A Penn State professor has been accused having sexual intercourse with a dog and performing other lewd acts in a parking lot near Rothrock State Forest in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. After being confronted by authorities, the professor said, “I do it to blow off steam.”
Penn State Professor Themis Matsoukas was charged Monday with open lewdness, indecent exposure, sexual intercourse with an animal, cruelty to animals, and disorderly conduct, according to a report by Fox 43.
The 64-year-old professor was reportedly caught performing these lewd acts on a trail camera that was installed in the parking lot in April, the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) said.
DCNR investigators are accusing Matsoukas of indecent exposure, masturbation, and sexual contact with a dog. The professor was also see on video trying to record himself performing the acts on an electronic tablet, the investigators said.
The parking lot camera allegedly caught Matsoukas performing these acts on at least two occasions — once in April, and a second time in May.
But DCNR investigators say Matsoukas has been behaving in this manner since at least 2014, citing a trail camera at a privately owned camp that had first captured images of him walking around with no clothing on from the waist down. A second camera from another privately owed camp nearby recorded similar images.
Authorities were finally able to identify the professor in May, when they tracked down his vehicle. Investigators were then able to match his DMV license photo with photos from the other trail cameras.
From there, law enforcement obtained a search warrant for Matsoukas’ home and vehicle, and later retrieved a jacket, a backpack, a ski mask, a large wristwatch, an electronic tablet, and photo documentation of the presence of a dog matching the appearance of the collie seen with Matsoukas in the footage.
The charging documents also noted that Matsoukas became “visibly nervous” when DCNR rangers arrived to execute the warrants, and that he repeatedly said “I’m done, I’m dead,” after authorities told him they believed he knew why they were there.
Matsoukas also reportedly begged the authorities to fatally shoot him, saying, “I need to die.” The professor eventually told investigators “I do it to blow off steam,” the charging documents state.
Matsoukas was arraigned on Tuesday. The professor’s hearing is currently set for July 19.

WOOF!

Nothing like a brand new rusted barrel, didn't even need to scope this one! :)

Just unpacked this new Wilson Combat 22" Super Sniper .224 barrel still in the factory sealed wrap. I took a look at the crown and could see heavy rusting right away without even using a light, with a light the whole inside of the end of the barrel looked reddish/orange. Pulled out the borescope and about the last 10" is heavy rust. I also hit a pretty good obstruction at the gas port, that's pretty ugly as well. Definitely the worst new barrel I've ever unpacked from a corrosion standpoint, or gas port.

Pretty amusing when the manufacturer's webpage has a video showing them scoping the barrel twice during production, including after the gas port is cut at final inspection :ROFLMAO: I mean I'm sure it's possible it rusted after it left there, but that gas port sure didn't happen after it left. There's no way you could slide a bore scope past that and not feel it.

Not sure if I should just return it to the vendor (they'll probably just repackage it for some other poor sucker) or get ahold of the manufacturer. I've had some ugly looking scoped barrels shoot well before but with that much corrosion it seems like it's just going to have problems with fowling and probably pitting even if it's cleaned up.

Just more evidence that I am a bad QC magnet, companies should pay me to buy their stuff just to get rid of the lemons.

17 hornet Scope

Hi Fellas,

Purchased a Savage varmiter in 17 hornet. I plan on shooting mostly ground squirrels and similar sized things mostly at 100-150 yards, with some stretching out 200-300 yards.

Is there a scope that jumps out to you with a budget of $600? I’d prefer to be in the $300-400 range, but can make 600 work.

Been looking at SFP scopes: 6-18x40 VX freedom, Mark 3 6-18x50, some vortex vipers and Burris’s.

Do you think 6 power is too high for minimal magnification? I like the higher mag because squirrels are so small, but don’t want to chase that and sacrifice quality.

Any suggestions would be great, I really appreciate it.

Jake

Reloading side hustle

Someone at work got wind that I reload and is asking if I’ll do some for him. It’s not a small amount though, it sounds like he has several gallon bags in a couple of cartridges.

Anyone do this for friends/acquaintances? Is this amount something you would charge for(I think this guy is kind of a douchebag so I’m definitely not doing it for free)? How do you determine pricing?

Mods, if this is verboten I’ll take my pee pee slap and be on my way

Thoughts on pricing used custom rifles?

I'm trying to get my head around pricing a used custom rifle. I've bought and sold plenty of guns before, but never a custom rifle. Part of me wonders if it's even worth going through the process of selling something custom as a whole, or if there's some way to part it out. I just don't know what the odds are that someone is going to want to buy a custom rifle exactly the way I did when I ordered it years ago when they could build their own just the way they want it today.

My other concern with selling a custom rifle is it'll likely be online so I'm going to have to find a local FFL to ship to someone elses FFL. I just sold a rifle last night that I had listed online, but the guy was close enough that we drove and met up.

My other concern is I don't want to put a dumb price on the gun. When I bought it 5 years ago it was XYZ dollars, and to buy it again today would be XYZ plus almost $1,500. When I put a price on something I do it to sell it, not just to list it. The round count on the gun is somewhere around 1,000 rounds and it's been used in competitions, but otherwise has been very well cared for. I just don't want to be the dumb guy asking $700 for a used glock, or likewise the guy who sells a glock with one box through it $200.

Thoughts?

MDT Launch the New Control Bridge - ACC Elite.

MDT_ACCEliteControlBridge_01 (4).jpg

MDT Sporting Goods Ltd. Announces Their New Control Bridge - ACC Elite.

We're excited to announce the launch of our new MDT ACC Elite Control Bridge. This accessory acts as a mirage mitigation device and provides a barrel cover when reaching up and over your forend for added control.

The textured top face reduces the chance of your hand slipping and provides additional grip, while the six screws securely fasten the bridge to the forend for a very rigid interface. Optionally, they can be stacked for full forend enclosure or coupled with the NV Bridge (coming soon). It has clearance for large-diameter, straight taper match barrels. This product is only compatible with the MDT ACC Elite chassis systems.

The MDT ACC Elite Control Bridge is now available with a starting price of $119.95 USD and can be found at https://mdttac.com/control-bridge-acc-elite/

Pre-Fit or No Pre-Fit

I put a KRG Bravo stock and Triggertech trigger on a Remington 700 .223 that had that cheap plastic stock from the factory. It is a stainless action with a varmint weight barrel in 12 twist. The barrel is still shooting well enough but got to thinking about a new barrel to go with the new stock & trigger. How would a pre-fit work with the 700 action or should I go with the gunsmith route and the associated extra cost? This is not a competition gun just the casual paper puncher. I put a WOA barrel on my RPR last week which is another reason I got to thinking about the R700 upgrades. TIA

Tikka T3 scope

I just got a new Tikka T3X Lite stainless in .223 and had a couple questions.

I have a Bergara B14 HMR in .308 and in my old age was looking for something a little lighter in weight and less recoil.

I was going to add a Mountain Tactical bottom metal [will use the factory mags] and was wondering if that was a good choice [just to get rid of some plastic] and was looking at a Leupold VX-3HD CDS-ZL 3.5-10x40 duplex scope for it. Is that a good scope for general use at 100-200 yards? Not really looking for anything over 10X.

On my last Tikka T3 in .308 I used Talley one piece lightweight mounts, but that has been a few years ago, is that still a good choice for mounts?

Thanks
