New Optic

I haven’t been on here for a while and I’m considering a new scope.
I’ve been considering Arken EP, Bushy Match Pro, Burris XTR, and the Zeiss Conquest v4. I’m sure Zeiss will get the nod but I wanted to ask. Rifle is a heavy weight 300 prc so weight doesn’t concern me any.

I’m an leo if that helps so I have access to sites with some discounts.

High Schooler Tags Enormous East-Texas Buck That Should Set a New State Record

Great story. Proud of dad who trained his 14 year old daughter, found the buck, did all the leg work and instead of him shooting it, he put his daughter up on the tree stand a let her do it. One shot from a 350 legend and it was down.

Story here:

BEWARE: New FAKE "gun rights" org run by leftists setting up at gun shows and recruiting the unwary. ARGO (Alliance for Responsible Gun Ownership)

First off, before we get to the heads up note, let's clarify some leftist terminology. In leftist-speak, "responsible" in terms of gun ownership means RESTRICTED until there is practically none.

For leftists, "responsible" gun laws mean:

- Guns must be locked and unloaded with ammo in separate locked cases even in the residence.

- CANNOT be used for self defense or protecting your home/property against violent attack.

- Magazine bans and restrictions.

- NO carrying, as defensive use does not even exist.

- Registration and monthly or even weekly check in requirements with government.

- NO "scary" features like flash hiders and pistol grips no matter what these features really mean or their origin in that firearm's design history.

THAT is what leftists mean whenever they say that they "support responsible gun ownership". NOW, let's get to the alert notice.

Reposted from ARF:

----------
----------
Heads up: Liberal front group pretending to be a new gun rights org. It appears a California Venture capital guy and media guy, both a history of supporting/donating to only liberals, have started a “gun rights” org based in Los Angeles with either their own money or dark money donors and using it to get people to sign up for free memberships to give themselves legitimacy and to harvest names of gun rights supporters. They appear to be targeting gun shows and social media.

ARGO, Alliance for Responsible Gun Ownership, has a booth set up at the big Wanenmachers Tulsa gun show this weekend. They also left their flyers and posters all around the concessions areas. At the booth they are talking about how they are a gun rights group looking to protect the right to own guns, increase gun education for kids, etc.

They were signing people up with that pitch and membership is free. They had tons of free shirts, hats, and other swag if you signed up for the free membership. Most people just took them at their word that they are pro gun and were signing up and handing over their info.

However, if you look at their nice website they talk about being a new “moderate” gun group and if you read between the lines, they are not really pro gun. It looks like they are trying to position themselves so that when proposed laws come up, they can go in front of committees and the media and pretend to be a legitimate organization that represents that gun owners actually want these restrictive gun laws to pass.

The CEO(and I think founder) is Michael Pierce, a California venture capital guy that has a history of only donating to Obama and other democrats. The COO is Timothy Napier, who also lives in the LA area and has a history of donating to ActBlue and Biden’s campaign. They have a six figure payroll, with a crew of at least 4 people traveling to promote this(including the CEO and COO both at the Wanenmachers show), a full time social media person at $60k a year(job listing online), nice website, etc…all this after only launching a few months ago. Someone is funding this and it’s not gun right supporters.

For those at the big Tulsa show this weekend, the booth is located on the lower level of the expo center on the east wall. I think it’s technically row 18 and it’s right off the center aisle. Just a heads up for those that might be at the show on tomorrow(Sunday) and for people to keep an eye out.

Please spread the message and try to keep as many unwary people as possible from being conned by this. At first glance, they might have looked to be just another super-Fudd "gun rights organization", but going by their leadership and their credentials, it is safe now to assume that at the very best, they may be a clandestine leftist policy-pushing organization trying to gain enough unwary followers to push through increasingly restrictive gun laws under the guise of "protecting the 2A". At the worst, they may be a honeypot/surveillance program to reel in members of the unsuspecting public so their data, gun ownership details, personal info, etc., can all be gleaned for various insidious purposes.

Stripping paint

Recently I stripped an AR upper and lower back down to the black anodized finish after I got tired of the beat up Duracoat finish I'd sprayed on years ago. I know Duracoat isn't as popular as it once was but I thought I'd talk about the product I used to strip the receivers down, Klean Strip Premium Stripper.

First of all a safety brief, don't fuck around with this stuff, wear heavy duty gloves, not just nitrile ones, and safety glasses when you're using it. It burns when it gets on the skin and you definitely don't want it in your eyes. I primarily use this when I really want to get down to the base material and mostly when that base material is steel or aluminum, in my experience it's not safe for plastic but according to the label it's safe for wood.

I was curious how this would stack up against Citristrip Gel and non-chlorinated brake cleaner, which I also have on hand so I taped off sections of a take off barrel that had been Duracoated and hit sections of the barrel with the Citristrip, Klean Strip, and brake cleaner.

20231111_163342.jpg

The long and short of it is Klean Strip will make quick work of a barreled action and after less than an hour with the Klean Strip I could strip the Duracoat off with a wood craft stick. Citristrip Gel wasn't getting it done, if I scrubbed really hard I with a scotchbrite pad I could get a little bit of it off but it was a lot of effort.

20231111_182604.jpg

20231111_183146.jpg

The brake cleaner by itself didn't do much but spraying some onto a scotchbrite pad and scrubbing a section of the barrel got me down to bare metal but it was a lot of effort; I wouldn't want to do a whole barrel that way.

20231111_182933.jpg

I left the Citristrip on for about four hours to see if maybe it just took longer on the Duracoat. Nope, about the only thing it did really was make the finish a shade lighter.

20231111_205029.jpg

Citristrip does well when I want to strip some rattle can paint off of plastic pieces or other furniture that I want to be more careful with, it's the kinder, gentler paint stripper. For stripping anything short of Cerakote off a barreled action or chassis though Klean Strip is going to be my go to.

6 ARC - Anyone Regret It? Also considering 22 ARC

Anyone regret jumping in with a 6 ARC in an AR? Was listening to the Hornady podcast and one of the guys has a 16” 6 ARC shooting the new 80gr V-Match at 2780 (factory is over 3k in a 24” tube). This bullet makes me really like the idea of the 6 ARC.

Any reason to not go to it? Thoughts on the 22 ARC?

My requirements are:
- factory ammo (I reload some but not enough to shoot hand loads exclusively)
- 800 to 1000 yds supersonic range
- small frame AR
- anchor coyotes well out to 600 yds or so (I know, guys kill them with 17 HMRs and 204s)

Suggestions please… PRS rifle for youth they won’t outgrow

Asking for suggestions and opinions. I want to build a rifle for my son that he can use effectively now and into the future to hunt, target shoot and shoot PRS type events. I’m hoping to put something together he will never “outgrow”. Due to his current size and strength I need to keep the weight down initially to around 10-12 lbs and have a 12” - 12.5” LOP. As he grows he will need the ability to increase LOP.

I‘m considering a MDT HNT26 chassis, custom action(no idea where to start) and proof research carbon barrel around 18-20” so he can run it with a light suppressor. What is out there that might be a better setup?

I also would like suggestions for what caliber to chamber. I’m thinking something like a 6BR or 6 Creedmoor.

I was fairly up to speed with what was available 10 years ago, but I drifted from the hobby with young kids and life and have no idea of what’s out there these days To best accomplish this.

Thanks.

SOLD Weatherby 22-250

Weatherby vanguard sub moa model in 22-250. It's the heavier barrel contour that come with the sub-moa models. I had the barrel threaded, put it into a chasis, shot maybe 50 rounds through it, put it in a different stock for a bit, never shot it, and then traded both the stock and chasis off, so now its in a cheap griptonite stock. It was a sub-moa rifle from the very first group. Everything on it is factory except the rattle can paint that I added.

Just cleaning out my closet. $450 shipped or trade for something cool, money on either end..

There’s a commie impersonating me!

I was made aware recently by another Hide member that someone has been impersonating me. He has a profile that looks very similar, except that his name is Rockdoc I73 instead of 173 (i vs. 1)Additionally, he has no buying and selling history, whereas I do. If you were approached by “me “please make sure that you’re buying from me and not “me. “

SOLD Burris XTR Pro SCR2 mil/mil

Sold 11/11

Up for sale is a Burris XTR Pro, mil/mil, SCR2 illuminated reticle.

I bought this new in late June and it's been on one of my PCP air rifles in an ARC M-Brace mount ever since. It has seen target use in the backyard and quite a bit of time out in the orchards eliminating ground squirrels.

Still in like new condition. Selling because I finally received my 2x Razor G3s from Vortex directly after the whole Liberty Optics fiasco, and after using them for a bit I've decided to run the Razor and part with the XTR Pro.

Includes scope, regular elevation dial, race elevation dial, throw lever, sunshade, burris flip caps, and MKM flip caps.

Asking $1725 shipped and insured. Payment via discreet paypal F&F, zelle, USPS MO or check (will ship when payment clears.)
