Need Info On Possible Fake Recon Sniper

Hello, 1st I searched around to try and find the correct area to ask this question. So if it doesnt belong here, please forgive me. Now from what I understand for it to be stolen valor a few things must happen. So I'm not 100% sure, but he definitely is using this to gain trust.

I live in NJ and few us of joined this neighborhood watch group cause things are starting to get bad. The guy that created this group is named Ed. My concern is, he is using this story of "I'm a Marine" to convince people he is billy bad a@*, gain their trust, and take donations to "support" the group. If you met this guy just once, he is good at convincing people but if you hang with him long enough you can see things dont add up. One of the stories he tells, when he 1st joined the Marines, the gun instructor, pulled back a curtain and said "have at it boys" and there was a display of all kinds of weapons. So he grabbed a 50. cal Barret and hit the target 150yds dead center. And after instructor witnessed his shot, moved him to recon sniper.

I never was in the military and from what I've seen in movies and etc, they are very strict...so the pulling back a curtain and letting new recruits shoot whatever gun they want, sounds crazy! It sounds like a scene outta a movie, but only you guys would know if this is kinda true or not.

There are a handful of stories but another one that stuck out as really bad is the following...He was talking about being over-seas as a reconnaissance sniper. I said it must have been hard to deal with IED's and never knowing when you might come across one...his reply: "Bro you see them, thats the CRAZY thing. Thats why they are called IED's...Identified Explosive Device"

I can see a regular person making that mistake of a calling it "Identified"....but shouldnt a Marine get it correct? In my mind, that sort of thing is drilled into their heads, so MANY times....how they are made, what they look like, what they are called, etc etc...Or is it a honest mistake?

He mentioned he had two MOS's. 2178 and 3778. He is 40 years old and said he joined after watching the twin towers come down, at 18 years old. Maybe he was in a different branch, like army or etc...or maybe he tried to join the Marines but got kicked out for medical. If it turns out to be true then I will be first to say I was wrong but something about all these stories and how he carries himself, that I find it very difficult to believe.

If someone here can please try and help or maybe point me in the right direction to find this info out would be very helpful. As mentioned we are a small group, trying to keep our community safe. And last thing we need is to find out this guy was lying and possibly stealing donations.

Thanks in advance for any advice,
Richie

Best place to buy ARC MBrace Rings / Mount

Hey everyone,

I'm just getting back into hobby shooting after a long absence and I don't know all the best places to get things anymore. I know most places run sales for Memorial Day and while I feel a certain way about that, I also wouldn't mind a sale because I have several sets I need to buy and things get pricey, fast. With all that being said it seems Brownells has a 15% off for Memorial Day Sale, but if there is somewhere better/cheaper or a vendor or something that works with the Hide, that would be my preference. Any ideas? I've also been watching the PX but you never know when deals are going to pop up or not there! Thanks everyone!

Law Enforcement: But in Australia this time

*Trigger warning due CNN link*

95 year old "armed" with a steak knife dies after being tasered by Australian Police.

There is reportedly two lots of body cam footage that hasn't been released to the public.
Would love to see how events unfolded as it'd hard to see how a 95 year old woman with a walking frame posed enough of a risk to warrant a good ol tasering at 4am in the morning.

Mystery black stuff in barrel

So I purchased a used gun from an old retired Border patrol agents estate. REM 700, 6mm Remington. I was able to purchase quite a bit of his reloaded ammunition and have ran across a few issues, but the main thing is the gun was filthy when I got it. I’ve run wipe out with the Excelerator through it four or five times and I’m finally getting non-purple patches out of it. Onto the next thing I am including a picture of a patch that has a little piece of black on it and I get a lot of these out of it. I’m wondering if that might be Molly because some of his reloads were Molly coded bullets. When the gun is “clean” and I use that term loosely, it shoots groups like this. After about 7 to 8 rounds, it starts doing shotgun patterns, like 3 inch groups!

Hi, I need a rifle...

Good Morning, I've been away for a long time. I'm stumbling into old age with a body I wrecked ( having fun and working hard). Wanted to re-introduce myself and seek advice. Where is the best place to ask advice for a bolt action rifle for up to 600 yds. Thank you in advance. I was looking at the Siete until I saw the crushing reviews here. BTW I live in Florida now, I'll change my bio.

Issues shooting with a Tripod

So I decided to jump into the deep end of the pool and go with a tripod setup. I figured why not. So here recently I went out to the range and set it up with my 16" 5.56 rifle. I shot like complete crap. My 10 shot group with the tripod was about 6" @ 100 yards. Moved the rifle to shooting off of my pack with no rear bag and pulled the groups into 1" @ 100 yards. Tried the tripod again and the groups opened back up to 5+ inches. Setup wise it's a full Hog Saddle (parts below). Anyone have any suggestions or general tips for thsi type of shooting?

Tripod: PIG0311-G
Head: GNN XB-44DL
Mount: Hog Sadle Mod 7

Old man wants new rifle

71 and crumbling body and health. Earlier I was told to be as specific as I could in this request. Here goes... I lost my sister May 9th, my younger beautiful sister, followed by my best Friend Barry May 10th. My family in Va. is poor and the costs of burial fell upon me. The stress kicked the living s__t out of me.(snot) I went into and remain in A-Fib.

Now to the rifle... I still like smooth and silky. I want a finely crafted action that speaks to craftsmanship and pride. I will shoot at Port Malabar R&PC in Port Malabar Florida. The range is up to 600 yards. I have not shot there on that range so I don't know what cal. I need. I came here for help. I'm open for all suggestions. I've got the money to go to including glass 5k. I can reload if needs be. I will provide more info. when necessary.

Movie Theater For you Armor Guys... I know there are a few of you!

Note that "Pusher" from Sergeant York is the lead character.

Pure, straight-up propaganda film designed to fire up young Americans and counter the 'Isolationist' movement. Great fun and check out the old hardware!

Note that the term "Jeep" had not been coined. They were "Blitz buggies" and must have made Fritz Todt go crazy in the head... as he was still procuring horses by the millions!

On the subject of that... about 12 million Americans deployed overseas (16 million served during WW2.)

Beginning in 1940, US Industry provided them with:

About 750,000 jeeps
Another million trucks (From Scout car to halftrack to 6x6)
100,000 motorcycles.
85,000 tanks.

America produced roughly 1 motorized vehicle for every 8 people in uniform. That does not include airplanes and ships or staff cars/civilian vehicles converted to military use. BTW. (This also includes lend lease vehicles for UK and Russia... But does NOT include Canadian and UK and Soviet production... which was substantial.)

Germany's motor vehicle from 1933 on was...

49,000 tanks of all types (from light 1930's tanks to "Elefant" tanks
27,000 light armored vehicles
87,000 halftracks
350K trucks.
100,000 motorcycles

By the end of 1942, much of this 'stock' had been exhausted and was hard to replace as bombing ramped up and many skilled industrial workers were sent to the Russian Front.

After 1942 they produced only 17,000 "Up to date" tanks. Which were 'mostly' no match for Soviet tanks. Their production of "Tier 1" tanks (Panther/tiger/etc.) was a paltry 9,000. And most of them were so complex that they were often battlefield ineffective.

What they did have was...
2.75 million horses and a million railcars... tied to tracks.

"Meet Ford and General Motors, Indeed!"

Anyone who wants a fascinating read on WW2... Richard Overy's economic examination of WW2 called 'Why the Allies Won." Not only looked at production but morale, training, nutrition, petroleum, technology, the difference between "Free" and Conscript Troops (and labor)... fascinating book! There is a UK series called "War Factories" free on YouTube that plays off some of those themes. The get a lot of minutae wrong... but overall the series is outstanding!

New York Mayor Eric Adams Signs Bill Making Discriminating Against Fat People Illegal

Eric Adams, the Democrat mayor of New York City, has made discriminating against someone due to how fat they are illegal.

Under new legislation signed into law on Friday, businesses in New York City will no longer be legally allowed to discriminate against someone due to their weight and height. Signed by the city’s Democratic Party mayor, Eric Adams, the bill will render it illegal to discriminate in employment or housing decisions against someone due to their weight.

The bill has prompted fears amongst those outside the progressive left in the city, with numerous pundits and politicians expressing concerns that the law will result in a spike in lawsuits, further fattening the wallets of New York’s legal class.

SOLD Nightforce ATACR 4-16 X 42mm F1 Scope, H59, MIL-SPEC, Non-Illuminated (M542)

Up for sale is a Nightforce ATACR 4-16 X 42mm F1 Scope, H59 reticle, MIL-SPEC version, Non-Illuminated (Model M542). It is in near mint condition and was never fired in the field. It was mounted on one rifle which was a safe queen. I'm selling it because I'm raising funds for a new hunting rifle build.

If you are looking for a mount for this scope, I'm offering a Nightforce 34mm Cantilever Ultramount (1.54" height) in Dark Earth in a separate posting that will pair well with this optic.

As noted above, this is the MIL-SPEC version of the ATACR which Nightforce ruggedized for hard use in very wet conditions for military and law enforcement end-users. These scopes are pretty hard to find and when Nightforce did offer them to the general public in limited runs they retailed for for $2500-plus if you could get one. I'm asking $2000 for this one plus $35 for shipping via USPS Priority Mail. Buyer will have to pay for insurance, if desired.

PayPal is preferred for payment as long as the buyer covers all transaction fees (+3%). I’ll also accept cash during a face-to-face deal if you live near Raleigh, NC. Feel free to PM me with any questions/requests for additional photos you might have.

Thanks for checking out my listing and have a good one! S/F!

New England vacation

Planning to fly into Boston with the family mid August. We have spent plenty of time in southern New England. This time, we were thinking of traveling north through New Hampshire to Maine, and eventually to see Acadia national forest.

Any recommendations of places to visit? Any good places to eat? Any good places to stay? Any places to avoid?

Thanks in advance.
