I have an older (no internal recording, memory, saving zero, etc) IR Defense 35mm and NV but since my wife freaks if I go by myself and on occasion a property owner will want to go with me, I need a loaner for a guest. I would also use it as a scanner when no guest is present. I hunt pigs and coyotes in mostly wooded areas. (MS and LA).
I have done a bunch of research, and I am thinking a 384 with 35mm will do for my application. I have read that a scanner is used more and a 640 will help Id animals at a distance but I’m thinking scan to find it and bring the IR Defense up to identify and shoot.
Is 384 ok for guest to shoot about 100 yards?
I would love a N vision or Trijicon, but I would like to stay under 5k - even lower if a 384 will be sufficient.
I can afford another 640 if it is needed so please give thoughts.
Should I get one in case my current unit goes out?
Thoughts and recommendations on 384 vs 640 and specific models?

I would like to locate a Remington 5r or Police with a 20 inch barrel in .223 for my two young boys to shoot along with their .22s.

I say either the 5r or Police, because I feel like when they built these / or you could find them years back, they had decent barrels and you didn't have to immediately throw on an aftermarket barrel and blueprint the action to have a decent rifle. Is my theory correct? Any other ideas that could get my purchase/build/project off the ground?

I do want to stick with a 700 platform but cant find any with 20 inches.

Any leads on where I could locate at least a base rifle or ideas on a accurate .223?

Just got back from SHOT SHOW and Glen Seekins had the new mounts there, with new accessories.



The "Key" to this mount is the wedge Glen has added to it underneath. This locks the mount to the rail,


The screw at the bottom is the locking mechanism for the wedge. It's so effective that you can tighten the side clamps to 10 inch pounds or even potentially less and it will still hold.



The other neat and well thought out part, the Level, you know me and a level, my thoughts are, if you run a level you better manage it.

Well the two screws next to the level are to adjust it so it's right because you can't just slap a level on and expect it to be correct, some times they need an adjustment, Well Adjustment included.

Looking forward to try this out, and putting it through the paces.


The ring caps are also backward compatible with the Vortex or previous Seekins Rings

I'm sure someone has done a post on this I just can't find on on what I need. Anyways, I built a 6.5 creedmoor prs rifle with a bartlien barrel but the load components I'm using are Alpha ammunition srp brass, win 41 primers, 6.5 staball, and 140 gr eldm. I have a 1-8 barrel I've seen load data similar but nothing of this combination. Any positive advise would be helpful thank you.

For a while now I have desired a long slide 10mm 1911 . I currently have a spring field TRP operator which I also very much like to shoot . I currently live behind enemy lines in Southern California so with the current handgun roster its not as simple as going out and buying a 10mm 1911 . Is it possible to take a long slide and put it on a 45acp frame ? I understand there is some fitting with 1911's that's no problem . If it is possible is it or is it not the case that 10mm can damage 45acp frames ? is that real or a myth . I apricate the hides advice

I’m relatively new to posting but have been shooting for several decades

I have a high end rifle but don’t want to bash the company so I won’t post the manufacturer. Need less to say I’ve put $10k into this setup. Bartlein lapped barrel. Nightforce scope .

I’ve been reloading for a 338 lapua. I’ve shot hundreds of rounds now through it and have found a good speed node. SD are always under 10. The best group at 100 has been ,75”. My friend whom has been shooting long range for decades shoots it the same.

My hand loads are all weighed individually within .1 grains of h1000. Same brick of CCI 250. I’ve used a comparator on all my measurements and the shoulders are bumped back .002”. Base to ogive are all within .0005. In groups of five I’ve seated from touching the lands to ten thou off in .002 increments. I’ve tried 250, 300 and 285 all with these methods. All match grade. I even bough a concentricity tool and none of them are over .0002. All Lapua brass. All Redding full length sized with .002 neck tension. I even wipe them down before single feeding them

I torqued all the bolts, rings, scope bases to the manufactures spec. No brake strikes. Put a bore scope down it and can see anything other than minor scratches. I cleaned it too.

i can hit a 3” gong at 500 with my 6,5 Tikka very consistently. I’ve had 1” groups at 400 under ideal conditions with my Tikka. I don’t think it’s shooter error. I use my parallax correction religiously.

I think that’s as thorough as possible.

i took them out to 200 thinking the group would improve due to the fact the manufacturer claim it’s yaw but at 200 the best group I got was 2.5”. Some are over 3” At 500 I’d get a hit and then the next shot would be way over a foot off. 2km winds.

Am I just burning money and have a bad barrel?
