Easiest 6mm

I’m finally at a place in life (age 41) where I have a few dollars and a few minutes available to focus on teaching myself to reload. My question to the Hide is… which is the 6mm cartridge that is most forgiving to the novice reloader, given the following factors:
- availability of components in 2023
- lowest recoil (wife and kids will occasionally participate)
- I will shoot at thin skinned game 400 - 600 yards possible not probable, 600-800 yards steel plates for fun

ar15 barrel quality experience

thinking about putting an AR15 together as an "accuracy" piece, say maybe to 600 yd max. prob 1/8 or 1/7 wylde. looking $300-400 max for a barrel. yes,i know bartlein, krieger and lilja are superior. price to high for budget. actually walther a bit highish. so; ballistic advantage,jp,white oak are what i have looked at so far. anyone with multiple experiences with those 3 brands? i have about everything else needed. no,i don't need to hear "you just have to spend a lot more money because i do".

Need opinion

I'm planning on going on a mountain goat hunt in Colorado with a friend for the second time and I'm looking for a good long range rifle

The first time I went I had a $300 Romanian PSL with a russian scope, now at $2500 on up, I don't think so and I want something in 308

I have been looking at the Bergara B-14 HMR rifle in 308, but is there anything lower in price that can perform as good

7mm Mag or 300 Win Mag for Hunting

I’m looking at getting a new bolt action and getting into hunting some bigger game like elk. I’ll mostly be hunting in the Western US. I’m debating between 7mm Mag and 300 Win Mag.

Right now I have a Remington 700 SPS Tactical in 308. I upgraded the trigger, stock and threaded the barrel for a muzzle brake.

I don’t mind a little extra weight of a heavier barrel but I’m wondering what my best options are in the $1000 range without glass?

Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

Found pressure signs way early.

New to rifle reloading.
As the title suggests I ran into pressure signs (flattened primers and very stuck cases) extremely early. Rifle is a .308 savage 20" barrel 1 in 10 twist. Loads are as follows:
Once fired LC and Hornady brass FL sized and trimmed to 2.005" no crimp.
175 SMK
WLR primers (second hand)
42 gr Varget (checked and rechecked)
2.800 COAL. Base to ogive 2.225. jump .020.
Chronograph was all over the place between 2400 fps and 2613 fps.
I'm looking for ideas. I suspect the primers may have been mislabeled. Would a magnum primer overpressure at only 42gr? Has anyone seen a hot batch of Varget?

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

SOLD WTT: 1993 SR-25 Match rifle

Last fall I purchased this 1993 production SR25 match rifle complete with old school leupold mk4 fixed 10x scope, at the time it was unfired as the bolt carrier group was still sealed in plastic. Since acquiring the rifle I have put roughly 150 rds through it with the bulk of those captured in the youtube video referenced below. Ultimately I don't enjoy shooting this rifle as much as I do more modern options so I am looking to trade for something I'll get more enjoyment out of at the range.

While I will entertain selling the rifle/ scope for cash (it'll need to be a strong offer) my preference would be to trade for the following items. I've listed from top to bottom in order of priority I'm willing to use cash to adjust value up or down to make a fair trade. Trade firearms will need to be equally low round count.

- KAC SR25 APR rifle
- KAC SR25 APR upper
- Barret Rec 10 LR .308 rifle
- KAC SR25 APC rifle
- KAC SR25 APC upper
- Nemo Omen 300WM with 24" barrel

Can provide additional current pictures to anyone interested.

The Coachable Shooter

Errors are cumulative. Because errors stack onto each other, we always start with the equipment baseline when considering a shooter’s goal and how to help them reach those goals. I don’t like the idea of simply telling people to get better equipment because, often, the gear they have can be used for most of their goals; sometimes, this isn’t the case, though, and we will discuss this in a later article, equipment does matter.

Nevertheless, a human must use equipment, and people add errors to any system, no matter how good they are. Talking about what great equipment you have is fun and feels good, but it doesn’t tell us whether that equipment will be able to accomplish the goals someone has until the error factor of the shooter is established.

Chassissss expertissse

As the title suggests, I am in need of some opinions. Preferably ones with direct first or second hand experience… let’s avoid the “My friends oldest brother worked for a guy that changed tires for the daughter of a guy who had one” type of experience. Thanks.

Contenders:
Magpul 700 Pro chassis (used $750)
Aero SOLUS chassis (new $785)

Barreled action:
He/him/his is a bone stock RH 700 SPS Varmint in 308. Planning a re-barrel and trigger upgrade later down the road when money is less of an issue.
I don’t shoot comp. (Wouldn’t be opposed one day), its main use is just to have fun at long distances with my pants on and if SeverHTF.
Oh yea..my dirty secret is that I shoot LH

THANKS in advance

Rifle Scopes ZCO Hunter scope at the IWA event

Hey guys, there's a new ZCO Hunter scope being released at the IWA event for the European market. I figured that I would answer some questions before the rumors spread.

  1. This is a European scope only for now
  2. It's not being released very soon.
  3. A United States based version is not coming right away as the design will most likely be different.

Rifle Scopes What the pros use confusion

I came across tactec.com, which shows what the PRS pros use and ranks the gear by the number of winners.

The #1 scope for 2021 was, by far, the Tangent Theta and the #2 scope was the Leupold Mark 5HD 5-25.

The article for 2022 was just published and the two scopes have completely reversed. However, I am unsure which Leupold Mark 5, because that data is omitted this year. It could be the 7-35.

My question is: is this accurate? Any idea which 5HD? Why have they reversed so dramatically?

PRS

Hi all, I’m new to the PRS world, but not new to shooting, I have been shooting for 20 years, and would like to have a go at PRS. I have just taken delivery for a accuracy international at-x. I would like some advise on other kit.

Bags- I have looked at the Armageddon sticky game changer, however the shipping is $93 alone! So I don’t want to be ordering the wrong stuff. What bag is the best? I see that people use multiple bags, what other bags would be needed? Ideally I’d buy all from the same manufacturer to cut the delivery costs down.

As for scopes, I have considered the following:
Sightron s8 - which seems impossible to buy in the UK

Delta Stryker
Nightforce atacr
Schmidt pm2
Zco 5-27x56

My fist choice is the sightron due to seeming good value for money. I don’t mind spending more if the optics really are worth the extra cash. However if the sightron or delta are good enough then I might as well buy one of them.

Mounts- I’m considering either tier one, or spuhr.

Brake- originally I was going to get a gen 3 fat bastard. However the strike without warning seems to be catching people’s eye?
