Masks work, you should all wear them......

when woodworking. Click bait got ya.

Wood dust really messes me up, I had been using a fairly bulky 3M mask, and being human I did not really like it. So if I had one or two cuts to make I would not put the stupid thing on.......and enjoy the massive headache that came later. Felt like my eyes are going to be blown out of my skull.

So I wanted to try a new mask, and get one a little smaller and a little more comfortable. Something I would wear when cutting wood, or sanding on a car....do more car stuff then anything else. So I bought one of these after watching about a billion different review videos on YT.

The wife has had issues working outside for years and has to wear a mask when on the tractor or mower. She always did something like this
1673008973463.png

A little lighter and a little cooler. Fairly cheap with replaceable filters for them and a exhaust valve in the mask. It does work pretty well for things like seed, dust and general "outdoor" type crap that bothers her.

Story time:

I got a fairly new induction heater not long ago. If you don't know what these things are you put a coil of wire around a nut or bolt hit the button and it will make that bolt or nut glow read hot. It is basically a blue wrench without the fire. I had played with it a few times, used it once. Last night I was taking off a leaf spring and the bolt was rusted tight....I grab the grinder and then think....wait I have this induction heater, lets play with that. Well sure enough the nut got glowing red....but you know what else is on a leaf spring at the end....yup rubber. Melted the rubber like hell.....bubbles and smoke billowing out of the spring.....well shit stupid you should have known that. The entire shop was covered in a smoky haze....looked like when they opened the van door in fast times at ridgmont high. I had the mask on and goggles (got metal in my eye grinding on something but that is another story).....and you really can't see because of all the smoke, and it is starting to burn my eyes. Figure I will go inside and open the shop and let it air out a little. Take off the mask and go to open the door. (should have opened the door then taken off the mask, but I ain't that smart) and good god you could not draw a breath in there....it was horrid, but in the mask I did not smell a thing.

Sold.

So if you are fooling around with metal or wood....or have issues with thing in the yard, you may look like a comic book super villain but darn I don't care, it works great.

Calling engineers and mechanical folks, need a spring.

Picked up a trigger shoe and it came with a reset spring so heavy it made my trigger twice the pull weight(5lbs). I did the “Bobby pin mod” and now have a 2lb trigger pull(I modified internals). I don’t really want to keep it half ass long term as I don’t like how it torques another spring. so I need to make a 1/2lb or maybe 3/4lb torsion spring(measured by trigger pull when only trigger and reset spring is installed)

How do I go about figuring out the wire diameter needed, is there a formula or have any of y’all done this before?

the company who made it doesn’t seem to understand what “the springs too heavy” means so I guess I’m on my own. I’ve been googling but it’s all crap for garage door springs.

Posted here since more people will see it, any help is appreciated.

Here’s the spring I need to replace

Finally, PBS Frontline Doing Something Besides Attacking Trump -- Pegasus

Used to be that PBS Frontline did some amazing journalism. Lately, like all other so-called journalists, they are just pushing socialism and vilifying anyone who is a Constitution-loving American.

However... this latest two part show they are doing as part of a cooperative investigation undertaken across the world... is not only well-done but downright scary.

It's about the misuse of Pegasus spyware. And how governments are using it... and for some nasty stuff. Part 1:

What is Pegasus you may ask? It is a highly-effective spyware/malware/virus that will infect phones and give users utter access to the lives of the owners of infected devices. And the latest iterations don't even require you to 'click' on a spearfishing attack or similar. Details...

If you think this is not being used against Amercians... by Five Eyes or similar entities? Or by private companies? I'd bet against you.

Now off trying to find out how to 'check' devices...

Pretty fascinating stuff. Makes me yearn for the days of the wall phone and no PC's...

UPS/ Fed-Ex Firearms Shippers Compliance

Has anyone who holds an FFL gone through the Firearms Shippers Compliance with either UPS or Fed Ex?

I went through it with UPS and can't access my accounts or add them to my existing account because it ask for a PIN number I do not have.

I'm trying to go through it with Fed-Ex and nobody at customer service seems to know what to do.

I have just been using USPS due to less hassle but it is more expensive.

Have any of you FFL holders been through the process successfully?

UPDATE: Fed-Ex says I don't qualify due to volume.

Tangent 5-25 or new Schmidt 6-36

Which would you choose to shoot matches with? I know their 6-36 hasn't been released yet, so this is assuming the new 6-26 will have glass as good as their old 5-25.

I haven't attended a match in a couple years. Are no dial stages still a thing? The Schmidt 6-36 only comes with the GR2ID AND P5FL. For Tangent, I'm mostly interested in the G3XR Fine.

I'm leaning towards the Schmidt with P5FL. What do you think?

6.5 BR, short barrel, hunting rifle. Am I crazy?

Mission: Short action, competition "grade", ground-blind oriented, short barrelled, suppressed hunting rifle.

I own an Impact on an MCS TCS, with a Kahles 6-24 in 6BR. The thing shoots much better than I can, yadda yadda. I'm planning to form 1 the action for this project, if it comes to be.

Seeing how easy-mode the BR variants are, as well as how efficient the case is, I don't see a downside to necking up some Lapua brass and running a short barrelled 6.5 BR. I've read that some of the guys experimenting with this cartridge in 2008-9 were seeing 2800fps or more pushing 140s. Maybe even 2900 but that was really pushing it, even for BR guys... Also, this was from 26" barrels. Assuming 30fps per inch, cutting 14", I'm guessing a loss of 420fps from their numbers?

My question is, does anyone know or can anyone help me get a good idea what velocity to expect from a 12" 6.5BR, pushing 130 Berger VLDHs?

If I can't get 2600 fps from a 12-14" barrel, then I might re-think. Even at 2500 fps it's worth doing to me, but getting 2600 is the goal.

Fed up and ready to move.....

Republican Approval Rating At Record High After Bringing Congress To Grinding Halt

Article Image

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In an unexpected turn of events, congressional Republicans saw their approval ratings soar to an all-time high after bringing Congress to a grinding halt while the battle to determine the Speaker of the House dragged on.
"This isn't something we thought would happen," said Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz, one of the lawmakers responsible for the impasse. "But now we're a hit with voters and we're holding back the swamp? We'll take any positive results we can get."
Though establishment Republicans warned of the backlash the small group of holdouts may face as they stood in the way of progress, voters instead rejoiced that Congress was unable to conduct its business. "What are we really missing out on?" asked concerned citizen Josiah Smith. "Sending more money to Ukraine? Forming ‘investigative committees' that do a bunch of talking and accomplish nothing? If holding up the speaker vote keeps all of that normal stuff from happening, I'm all for it!"
An irate Kevin McCarthy was reportedly seen throwing a temper tantrum in the halls outside his office after failing to win the speakership on the fourth ballot. "It's not fair!" McCarthy whined. "It's my turn! It's my turn!"
At publishing time, the House Freedom Caucus looked to be holding strong and was prepared to force as many votes as would be necessary to force McCarthy out of the running. Other backup plans included nominating other candidates, including one of the Capitol janitors, an Über driver found outside the building, or forgotten 1980s actor Andrew McCarthy.

More truth than fiction here folks!

Hey LL... Can you get some of these for Testing?

This technology is starting to look more and more interesting...

@lowlight ... you are right down the road. How about getting us some for testing? I'll gladly give it a review!

It's only a matter of time before the power density is sufficient to make these viable.

Cheers,
