9 Pellets Vs. 12 Pellets

Forgive my ignorance as I'm not much for shotguns. With that said, I noticed that Federal is offering the 12 gauge load of buckshot with a 12 pellet load (instead of 9) at 1 17/16 oz.

I just got a Mossberg 930 SPX with open choke and mounted a Holosun optic on it. I plan on zeroing it for slugs at 50 yards but not worry as much as about the buckshot.

I'd like to try my hand at hunting coyotes with a shotgun as there are some places that I hunt where I'm very limited on the direction of fire and feel safer with a shotgun.

I was thinking that with a 30% increase in the number of pellets I might stand a chance of getting a corresponding increase in hit probability.

So has anyone tried these loads with 12 pellets? If so, what did you think? Should I stick with 9 pellet loads or go for the 3 inch magnum variety with 12 pellets?

Review: MK Machining Improved Grip for KRG W3

BACKGROUND - see here: https://www.snipershide.com/shooting/threads/modifying-chassis-grip-how.7117184/

BACKGROUND TL;DR
Ok you lazy bastard, FINE. Don't read linked thread.
Spoon-feed info: I love my W3. Except for the thumb rest position and the finger-to-trigger distance (FTTD). Glove size: I have medium-to-large hands.

I read this thread and mediated next to the river: https://www.snipershide.com/shooting/threads/kmw-sentinel-stocks.6971076/.

I dwelled upon the design of the MPA trigger finger-bump.

I then penned the thread at the top of this post; Tyler said he just needed somebody to send in a chassis for a 3D scan.

Here's my awesome drawing:

new.jpeg

$100 bux later, I UPS'd the chassis in to MKM last April, and Tyler and his team went to work. They are busy, so they just barely got it done for my July prairie dog shoot, but Fedex delivers to the middle of nowhere so all was good.

About me
I shoot prairie dogs and other smaller ground squirrels/“gophers” (yeah, PDs are ground squirrels too. Weird, huh? And our “gophers” are actually Richardson's ground squirrels).

I have attempted, and failed, to bag some crows and gray tree squirrels during their respective seasons. I am considering branching out to coyotes. I am not a PRS shooter, but like to optimize my setups waaaaay too much. I bench 110lbs, have one bow kill, and work with plaster of Paris.

Enough Sniper's Hide inside jokes! Tyler said to lay it out in a review, so here we go. Due to time pressure, I'll add to this review slowly vs all at once.

QUICK NOTES, GRIP
  • It's a prototype grip, not finished
  • It's made of some stuff that is super-tough and different than regular 3D printed material
  • The grip adds material on the front, which brings your middle, ring, & pinkie fingers further forward. This helps relax and position your hand to squeeze the trigger at 90º
  • The grip I got was smaller on the left and had a nice palm swell for the right and feels substantial
  • The "index finger bump" is optional* but REALLY helps that 90º squeeze, at least for this fool
  • It allows the thumb to fall way further forward than stock. The stock location always felt like I was thumbing a ride with Cheech and Chong.
  • I sanded down a part of the finger bump for comfort
  • It has a slight texture to it (me like)
  • The fit on the chassis is pretty good, not perfect. It’s a prototype.
  • LOTS OF DETAILS ARE UNDETERMINED for the final production version. Things like texture, etc. But I don't think they'll all have a thumb shelf on both sides.

QUICK NOTES, MAGWELL
  • It's a prototype too, I believe**
  • Made of more regular 3D printed-type of material vs the Adamantium-like wonder polymer of the grip
  • Works well and looks cool, serves as a barricade stop (but I have no barricades ha)
  • Turns my W3 into a Vision chassis lookalike, sorta. The W3 should’ve been designed like this from the get-go.

QUICK NOTES, RIFLE
Rem 700 .204, KRG Whiskey 3 chassis (6th gen), KRG optional aluminum arca forend, Near Mfg pic rail, Bix n' Andy TacSport Pro trigger

SUMMARY (details later)
Everything pretty much rocks. Especially after I sanded the bottom of the the index finger bump. Magwell helps guide mags and looks cool. Tyler of MKM does some impeccable work. I told him it has really transformed the chassis for me. Super comfy. So much so that I need to get a thumb rest for my AIAX as now that sort of feels like ass lol. Goddamnit I just had to work in a mention of my AI; I am a sad sad man.

Footnotes
* INDEX FINGER BUMP: The way it's designed is that It's supposed to bolt on, but MKM forgot the bolts, so I bought some epoxy and glued it on there. It's a prototype, remember, and I'm gonna send it back for scanning.

** MAGWELL: MKM forgot the bolts on this one too lol, but they are too awesome for me to care. I used some old KRG bolts I had laying around. It seems to be designed to use smaller bolts that would sit flush.

P.S. Forgive me my big rubber squeeze-on bolt knob and Hipstamatic camera app ok boomer lol

Cerakote Color Change During Oven Cure???

So I was Cerakoting my Star PD .45, Cold War Grey on the slide and Civil Defense Blue on the frame. For reasons unknown the frame changed from blue to brownish green in the oven. I prepped the surface well. Sand blast, wipe with acetone and heat up the parts to rid of any residue. The blue looked great going into the oven. Oven was at 275*. I checked about 45 min in and the frame had changed color. The grey slide looks great.

The brown/green color actually looks really cool so I think i'm going to leave it. Unfortunately, it doesn't go well with the grey slide so I'll probably respray it to black or tan.

Has this color shift happened to anyone else? Any idea what caused it? I don't want this to keep happening.

Thanks

SOLD Colt 607 Vietnam Special Forces CAR-15 fore-runner w/optic

sold This is a copy of the 1965 Colt 607 carbine, with Colt optic copy, fore-runner of the CAR-15. It has an early collapsible buttstock that works by a latch on the butt. The upper is an Anchor Harvey forge MILSPEC A1 c7 upper receiver with an Olympic Arms 5.56 HBAR 16.5" barrel with the Colt moderator pinned and welded. As its name indicates, the Retro 4x comes with an integral carry handle mount. The Anderson lower has a match trigger that has been upgraded with JP springs and breaks at 5.5 pounds and an original Vietnam era M16a1 grip. Triangular handguards with liner. Rifle Scopes Short variable to 10x, options?

I've got a special gun I'd like to have a 10x max scope on in a small footprint, basically I think the old NXS Compact 2.5-10x24 would be perfect but they are hard to find. Obviously I'm keeping my eye out for them, but considering what my other options are in a similar scope with that size objective and around the 8.8" length.

What options do I have? Anything out there comes close to the Nightforce 2.5-10x24?

Anything better for me than a 6.5 Grendel in the AR-15 platform?

Hello all,

I currently have a 16" 5.56 upper that I run an LPVO on. I am looking for something to get me a bit more mid-range capability (SPR). I currently have the 5.56 and a 6.5 Creed for calibers. I'd like to keep the barrel down to 18" if possible and will also eventually be shooting suppressed. No, I'm not expecting a quiet rifle, just tossing that out there if is relevant to cartridge selection. I kind of like the 6.5G because there is SOME bullet overlap with my Creed once I get set up to reload and I have shot one before that was really enjoyable. Beyond that, I've got basically nothing that ties me to that cartridge. My theoretical lineup is as follows:

0-400 AR-15 in 5.56
300-800 AR-15 in 6.5 Grendel (Or other)
600-1000 24" Bolt gun in 6.5 Creed

So, the fundamental question I would like an answer to is, am I on the right track with the Grendel, or should I be looking elsewhere?

Thanks!

Firearms Blueprinted Remington 700 300 Weatherby Mag Shillen Straight taper, Shillen Trigger $549 !!

This rifle was built for one of my father friends whom after completion never shot it. Blueprinted receiver, Shillen 1.200 straight pipe, Shillen trigger on a custom Walnut stock. The bore is in mint condition only having a box of factory Weatherby ammo through it. Rifle shot around 5/8 but I believe the rifle to be capable of much, much better results with different loads or some hands loads. Chamber is perfectly concentric to the bore, gunsmith’s work is impeccable. I have too many 30’s and just built a PRC so I will never shoot this.

Send me a PM for my cell # for pictures or videos.

Guy stabs five river tubers, one fatally, in Wisc.

Five people were stabbed with a knife while tubing on the Apple River in Somerset Saturday afternoon, the sheriff said.

A 17-year-old boy from Minnesota was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Knudson said.

The four other victims are hospitalized in critical condition, he said. Two victims were transported out of the hard-to-reach area by helicopter.

The suspect is a 52 yr. old engineer and is white, very white, as is pointed out in the report and a far Right wing gun enthusiast.
And boy, do they point that out. He even was pictured with an American flag.

The Old Man

Anyone watched it ? . The Old Man .. with, Jeff bridges and John Lithgow . Did not see it mentioned here ?
On the Season-1 , Was pretty unexpected quality and solid story line and a Good watch .
Only bad thing for me was absolute zero closure and you have to hold-over a year for season 2 for ending . And only one real Hokey scene, with a Mini Windrunner Covert pulled out of the trunk of car and shooting down a drone,...lol , but that why they call it fiction.
.

Night Vision Pvs 30

Wts a pvs 30 in excellent condition , works great, only used a couple times, FOM is 1929 $4500 obo . Not really looking for any trades, selling to fund racecar parts.
I'm listing this as a refurbished unit but I don't know for sure, I've had a few of these And it could possibly have been a new unit when purchased.

Ball Powder History and Advancements

Really good read with some good info on advancements in new ball powder that solve the temp sensitivity issues of the past compared to extruded stick powder...its called "Accu Flat" and they say "This family of powders matches Hodgdon’s Varget, H4350, H1000 and Retumbo for charge weight, performance and temperature sensitivity. Initial reports from the industry indicate that this propellant also offers high levels of accuracy."

Looking forward to testing this new ball powder....would be great for Dillons
