SOLD All of my reloading stuff- Price drop! Will split.

I'd really like to keep this local due to weight, size, # of boxes, hazmat...

I've come to the conclusion that I'm just not into reloading, after collecting a bunch of stuff! Things listed as used have been used for about 400 rounds of 223, with the exception of the case gage, maybe a dozen or so. Priced to sell as a lot, a couple thousand below sale prices: $5500 $5000 OBRO ftf.

I'd consider a partial trade for a ZCO 527, maybe other high end scopes, or a decent spotting scope.

Mixed brass is mostly 223, 6.5C, and 308. Some is separated, some not.

How to mount Charlie TARAC Mk8 without picatinny rail on top of handguard?

How are people mounting a Charlie TARAC Mk8 or Nightforce Wedge if you don't have picatinny rail on top of your handguard? None of my rifles have picatinny rail on top out past the end of the scope, but it seems necessary to mount a Charlie Mk8 or Nightforce Wedge. Are there any solutions other than buying a new chassis?

ARC Lightweight Coup de Grace Scope Mounts

I am assembling a lightweight 7mm-08 rifle for hunting and target shooting out to 300 yards. The lightweight version of the CDG action appealed to me saving 6-1/2 ounces in weight. Also, I don’t need a 15-MOA rail, let alone 20-MOA like the normal CDG. However, I was a little concerned about the odd placement of the rear half of the split, integral Picatinny rail. It’s farther forward than where I would’ve placed it but I am not a firearms designer.

I thought it would be useful to show the receiver up against 2 different rifles and scopes to see how it works:

Winchester Model 70 Safari Express long/magnum action (375 H&H) with Swarovski Z6i 1.7-10x scope
IMG_3796.jpeg

Winchester Model 70 short action (308) with Steiner Predator 2.5-10x scope
IMG_3795.jpeg

My CDG is short action length (sez Captain Obvious). I tried to line up the triggers. Both Model 70s have 13-3/4” length of pull. Both scopes have slightly longer eye relief than typical (3.74” and 3.5” respectively). Neither is a “compact” scope. My Ruger No. 1s have taught me that older scope designs have some advantages with more overall length.

I did this check on the scope mounts just before installing the barrel in the action. Seemed like a good idea to make sure it was good to go before taking that step! Here’s my 20” Osprey carbon fiber barrel chambered by PVA in the Coup de Grace at last. Headspace checked out fine.
IMG_3799.jpeg

Now I just have to be patient waiting for Manners to send me the Elite Hunter stock I ordered. With Greyboe Hunter bottom metal and an TriggerTech Special, I expect total weight to be about 6 pounds 10 ounces before scope & rings are added.

What defines an MPVO?

Hello all.

We all know the definition of an LPVO. But what about an MPVO?
Does the magnification have to start at 2x? What is the maximum magnification that an MPVO can have? Where do you draw the line?
What about max objective size?

Anyone have ideas on this?

Im thinking that an MPVO could be all the way up to a 4-16x scope, but it has to have a smaller than 50mm objective?

What say the Hide?

“Ad” Topperwain Challenge

The squirrel in the head thread from a few weeks ago got me back in love with some of my old .22’s. And thinking about a “project” I always wanted to undertake with a .22.

Since I was a kid, I saw articles and later some videos of the husband and wife team Ad and “Plinky” Tooperwain. They were exhibition shooters for, among others, Winchester.

I always wanted to find one of his tin Indians. Shot with a Winchester pump or auto at 25 feet in front of a crowd… then the “Indian” was presented to someone in the audience. There is a Topperwain at the Buffalo Bill museum. And the only two I ever saw outside a museum were in a gun club “clubhouse” in Raleigh, NC.

These were shot with iron sights. Seated Offhand. As fast as Tooperwain or his wife could load the rifle. At 25 feet. No dots to shoot at. He just shot the tin with the “pattern” in his head.

Here’s a couple of examples.

0AA02DFB-2C6B-4401-9308-83DBF2FAA0D8.jpeg
9E28B2F2-8E8D-429B-8E71-B1D677D1AEBD.jpeg

So having given up on owning a real Topperwain (they sell for thousands now), I am going to make my own. And it got me thinking that the world needs more tin Indians not less. And it might make a good Snipers Hide “exercise.” Kind of the ultimate rim fire dot drill!

So challenge rules. Really? Rules? Only one. Must shoot at 25 feet or more. Can use a dot template. Can use a scope. Can be as big or small a piece of tin as you like. Can lay paper on the tin with a pattern on it. Can be prone. Can do on indoor range. Can do in .17 or even a center fire if you want. Can use rests, bags, anything.

The only thing that matters is you get a good Indian head that would make Ad Topperwain and his wife “Plinky” proud. Btw, her name is where the term “Plinking came from. She was a trick shooter, too.)

At the end of the challenge… you get a piece of wall art that will make your friends go “wow” and a great sense of satisfaction.

Any takers? @buffalowinter ??

Cheers, Sirhr

PS. Already plotting my strategy…. Winchester 52 target. Copper sheet with a paper template (though I will practice before using the copper!!!) And lots of time to get it right. Btw, for templates, any local Kinkos or Office Depot can take the above images and blow them up and make several copies cheap.

PPS... if you want to do a different image... that's fair game too! He did Uncle Sam, Custer... others. Use your imagination!

Hunting & Fishing Pls suggest Chest rig / bino harness

Guys, looking for suggestions to manage gear I am using a lot on hunting trips. I am currently running a marsupial gear bino harness with my RF binoculars and also some pockets to carry a garmin rino and a garmin astro. I also carry a pack, but like having these items on my chest handy as they get a lot of use each time I go out.

I spent a bit of time looking around to see if there is a better chest harness to carry this stuff, but havent really found anything so far. The Sitka harness probably comes closest, but still not ideal. I did see a few predator hunters who have modified AR15 chest rigs to carry an assortment of gear, so considering trying that. Before I start frankenmodding chest rigs, can anyone point me to anything that already exists?

Some videos I found for reference:

My loaded necks are .289 so I'm using a .288 bushing. YMMV though

I have 300 pieces of Lapua brass all the same lot number and loaded neck is very consistant at .289 to .2895. Other lot numbers may vary in thickness.

40gr. H4350, 140gr. Berger Hybrid, CCI 450 primer

This load bugholes out of my 27in. Bartlein barrel... I don't have excess to a Chrono yet although...

41gr- 41.5gr. H4350 is a bugholer also, just find your barrels best .1 increment within that window and you will be happy....

I use the 288 with Berger bullets but gonna switch to 289 with the 123 Scenars as they seem to be a little fatter than the Bergers,,

Has anyone noticed anything different between CCI 400, 450m and BR4? Are you guys able to get low SD numbers using the 400s, 450s, vs BR4s?
